  1. Thank you 007agentHP for the extremely detailed build specifications and for the advice that followed! We are really excited You guys rock! Thank You so much.
  2. Thank you FAQBytes! We will be using a combination of Blender, Maya, Renderman, and Flash. Sorry, we forgot to mention the programs in our original post.
  3. 1. Budget & Location We (husband and wife) are planning to do our build either in 2017 or 2018 and are actually wondering how much money we should save up (in U.S. dollars) to be able to build the best computer for the job. We were thinking $10,000-$15,000, but if we need to double or even triple that amount for what is required, we would be willing to wait longer and save up more money. 2. Aim We would like to build a computer capable of heavy 3D animation rendering. 3. Monitors We would start with just one monitor but want the option to add another one later on. 4. Peripherals We would need to buy a keyboard and mouse and would use Windows. We would also like to include an optical drive. We already have a monitor that we can use, but that is the only part we already have. 5. Why are you upgrading? We only have laptops right now, and they are very, very slow at rendering, so we have used our friends' custom PCs with two graphics cards each to do our rendering, but even that is slower than what we would prefer, and of course we would like to let our friends live their private lives without having to render stuff for us. We would continue to use our laptops for lighter loads such as email, but we would like to have a desktop computer that is specifically built to be able to render complex animated scenes with all of the 3D models, textures, lighting, shading, etc. In essence, we want to know how to build the closest thing to a render farm for real-time rendering. Thank you very, very much for taking the time out of your day to read this post and maybe consider helping us with our project. Thank you.
