  1. Yeah... I explained in my post that I only picked the K version of the processor because it's cheaper than the non-K version. It's weird. I know, but that's how it is. I have NO PLANS to overclock at all. That said, do you still believe the b85 is a bad board? What would be other choices for it if having in mind I don't want to overclock? Thanks for the link to check wattage though. I'm definitely going to look for other PSUs then!
  2. Thanks for the reply! Why would changing to a Z97 be important in that build? I know it is a really good board, but it's just really expensive. The B85 I mentioned is priced at R$395 while the Z97 would be R$814. That's more than twice the cost and it would already means the build costs more than the 6th gen one... Also, a 430watts PSU wouldn't be enough for it? PCParkPicker told me the average wattage would lie around 380 so I thought it would be safe.
  3. Hello! I'm a total newbie on the website, and came here seeking some guidance. As mentioned in the title, I'm building a pc from almost zero. But before I get to the parts I'm picking, here's some stuff: - I work with 3D using Maya, zBrush and Substance as my primary softwares. Yes, I do use GPU-accelerated viewports and shaders, but only CPU based renderers (Arnold and V-ray). I do plan on studying Unreal Engine in the following years, so I suppose both CPU and GPU are of importance in a build like this. And of course, I'm into gaming in general. - I currently have a decade-old 1440x900 @75hz display (Samsung's Syncmaster T190). A second 1080p monitor is on my scopes, but not for a while. - I live in São Paulo, Brazil, so pricing and availability will be moslty tailored towards what I can find for the least over here. - I do have a ton of ATX cases lying around here, so cases will not be considered whatsoever. There are some parts from this PC I currently own that I plan on keeping: my 1TB storage drive, the GTX 680 and MAYBE the pair of 2gb 1600hz DDR3 RAM I got on it. I'll list my full current build for the sake of completion in this topic: So... the first build I was going for is this: Mobo: ASUS B85M-E/BR CPU: Intel Core i7 4970k PSU: Corsair CX-430 Storage: SSD Sandisk plus 2.5 120gb + 1tb 7200rpm (keeping the one I have) GPU: Nvidia GTX 680 (keeping the one I have) RAM: 4x 2gb 1600 (keeping the 2x 1600 I have) Yes, I know sticking a K processor in a not-z motherboard is pointless 'cause I can't overclock it. But the 4790k is cheaper than the 4790 (wtf brazil) and I have no reason to go for the 4790 since its stock clock speed is lower, right? And for the second build I'm considering, the only parts that would deviate from above are the following: Mobo: ASUS H110M-C/BR CPU: Intel Core i7 6700 Heatsink: Deepcool Ice Edge Mini FS 2.0 (since this i7 doesn't come with a stock fan) RAM: 2x 4gb Kingston HyperX FURY 2133 So... I'm comparing an LGA1150 to an LGA1151 build; Both motherboard choices are the cheapest I could find without compromising much. Neither support overclocking or SLI/Crossfire and I don't intend on using it so that's not an issue. One of them holds DDR4 RAM with only two slots instead of four from the DDR3 one. And also, I have no plans to go beyond the GTX 680 that I currently have. Both builds, performance-wise are pretty similar from what I could research. The 6th gen processor one is better, but not by much. Here's price difference between both in Reais, Brazil's currency: 6th gen processor build: R$ 2,629.00 4th gen processor build: R$ 2,399.00 So... Of course, if I was paying less for more, this wouldn't be a problem at all. In this case the best (and newer) build costs more. But I'm wondering to what point is it really worth it. Would a 4th gen LGA1150 hinder me if I plan on upgrading it in maybe 5 years? I know Intel is already releasing 7th gen processors and I wonder if the 6th gen will see another consumer-friendly release that would be worth upgrading in place of the 6700, so choosing LGA1151 might not be a bad idea in that regard? But I'm not so much into technology to be able to predict which choice would be better for future upgrades so I can't say much about that. Anyway... that would be all... Any help or advice will be GREATLY appreciated! Thanks!
