  1. Hey guys, I bought a MSI GTX 1080 Ti Gaming X. I want to watercool my rig but I don’t want to spend a ton of money. What is the cheapest waterblock that will fit my PCB?
  2. Thank you to everyone! You all had good ideas and good help, I will be looking into it more as the only thing i see a temp on is bios. Load temps will be posted for you guys if i do not get it figured out. Thanks again to everyone, you were all so fast to reply.
  3. LoGiCalDrm, I'm updating them now to see if anything changes, but i think you might be right. i looked up a few vids and articles and one thing i noticed was everyone showing the same motherboard as mine or same bios, their cpu temp was in the upper 50's or even 70's C so I'm thinking its just a weird number not making any sense. my cooler according to most of what i have seen on it should idel my cpu from about 35 to 40C at which i would be happy, but right now i have 54C. After seeing and reading about it, i think im looking at an improper reading or glitch in the bios. when i get my boot drive in from amazon i will be running test and seeing load temps as well as hopefully better idle.
  4. Yes. . . haha, when i went to reinstall the cooler the paste from the first time seemed to be spread across the CPU and cooler as it should, and I did it the same way when reinstalling it. Not loose, even watched a couple of videos before each time to make sure i was doing it right. I felt pretty confident putting it on both times.
  5. So I went ahead and took the temp with my infrared scanner all around the back of the socket and the hottest spot read 34.4C I've let the system sit for about 15 to 20 minutes at 54C so that should be enough time for the back of the socket be close to a better temp reading if my bios is wrong. Maybe try bios update then?
  6. I've remounted the cooler already, I'd say I'm pretty sure it installed correctly. One thing I did notice tho. . . when my graphics card is running 50+C you can feel the heat, and the heat pipe on it's cooler feel warm/hot to the touch? my CPU cooler is not blowing hot air, and the heat pipes don't feel warm/hot? Motherboard bios error maybe giving me the wrong temp reading? I'm going to use my infrared scanner and see how the temp looks right on the back of the socket, think that might give a better idea if the bios might be wrong?
  7. The system has just been built, new parts, dust free. I've made sure my cooler was installed correctly, and using an infrared sensor saying my case inside around the cooler is 25.6C
  8. I am building another computer and I'm seeing what I think might be an unusual CPU temp. I'm waiting for a boot drive to come in, so I'm not in the operating system yet, just the motherboard bios. The motherboard I have is the Asrock fatal1ty Z270 Gaming ITX/ac and I have an i7 6700K installed with Cryorig C1 140mm CPU cooler, and air flow in case is great. But motherboard bios is saying my CPU temp is 52.0C to 55.0C? Is this something I should be worried about? I have not overclocked it yet, and my CPU voltage is running at 1.264 (stock sense I have not changed any settings yet) Please help! ! !
  9. Maybe that's my way out, I've tried all I know, even a complete reinstall. Uninstall ALL drivers and softwear, took the physical card off the motherboard and played a little on onboard graphics and couldn't get it to happen again, just low frame rate. Shut down the system to reinstall the card, downloaded everything I needed from amd website and followed their instructions. Sure enough, twenty minutes later black screen again. I just held the power button and walked away. . . Haha. good luck
  10. I saw this post, I made a different one because I felt mine was a little different. Mine doesn't recover and it does it more often to the point where I have to press my reset button on my board to get my system back up and running.
  11. Everything is up to date, the only thing I changed in wattman is the fan speed on the card. I turned the rpm up a little because my buddy told me the amd cards run a little warmer, but the hole time I've used my pc I never seen a temp over 65c and he told me that was good because his runs around low 70's under load. ive noticed that I can press the windows button and be able to see my desktop, but after that, still can't do anything. I can click restart but the screen just turns black and the pc never restarts. i checked windows for updates. That was all good. And then I went thru every part on my device manager and checked that each part had up to date drivers, everything did, even the graphics card. Also told me that every device was working properly. I don't know what my frame rate is, but I know it's way better than my Xbox one running about 35, so I notice a huge difference, and never see low fps like my Xbox. I so my guess was maybe I clicked the wrong thing when I put my card in? I uninstalled everything that had to do with my graphics card, drivers and software, moved my hdmi over to the motherboard and took the graphics card out of the system. Went to amd downloaded their lastest softweare and restarted my computer so everything was fresh. Before putting the card back in I checked that nothing was there to run it and I shut it back down and unplugged it. pit the card back in, hooked up the 8pin and it posted with the card, so I hit delete went into bios and booted it. I did that because I hit the bios flashback to default, tho I never changed any of that eother, and Asus said that was all up to date too, I called them. Then windows was up and running and I let amd softwear install, found the card just like last time, installed its drivers, and then this time I didn't touch wattman setting, so everything is what amd sets it up as, so not stock fan speed, that was the only thing I changed last time, Which shouldn't matter because I only made it run cooler. game goes black, hit the windows button can't do anything. disabled the card used onboard graphics at low fps and never saw the problem. Went back to the card, black again after little load on card. But I can't find anything wrong. It's not hot, and the softwear both windows and amd doesn't tell me anything.
  12. I'm not sure what's going on, at first, I made another post about, but I was getting coil whine. Now that I know what it is, everything with that is alright I guess, just a noisy card. But now I'll be in the middle of a game, I don't use very demanding settings, just 1080p medium to high setting on a card that supposed to be able to handle 4K. I have the MSI RX 480 8GB gaming X. the screen will freez up and then go black, the only way that I found to get out of it was pressing the restart button on back of my motherboard. i have an Asus viii impact with ddr4 hyperx 16GB 2133 ram and an i76700K cooled by corsair h100i v2 and the MSI rx 480 corsair 750watt to power it all. if I use the computer for an hour plus it gets warm, but I've never seen anything over 65c. but here the weird part, the freezing, if and when it happens I've only played for about ten to fifteen minutes, everything is so cold that I couldn't even hear the fans yet. All of a sudden the screen froze and goes black and the exhaust fan on my case runs higher than ever. I have it set up to pull hot air away from my graphics card with a thermal sensor. The card will do this at about 45 to 50c I have the fan set to max the rpm if it goes over 65c so it shouldn't be running much at all. When this is happening I put my finger on the back were the gpu chip is and it's cold. So I don't think it's a heat problem. Plus the case is cold compared to when I game for two+ hours. Then it becomes my space heater, but still never a temp over 65c. my hardwear cant be the problem, 16gb ddr4 with a liquid cooled 6700K and 6gb/s drive is all working fine. I think it's the gpu, just don't know how to fix it or if I need to replace it, I believe it's still under warranty, both my Amazon and MSI. dont know how to use wattman, but I did figure out how to turn the fan speed up on the graphics card, I did so just to ensure it would stay cool because I didn't want to pay the price to watercool it. But again, it's running at the highest I've ever seen was 65c I don't think I put much load on it, which is why I think it might be a bad card.
  13. My system will do the same thing, display freezes and then goes black, but for mine, I have to restart my hole system, I couldn't find another way out of it. wattman is a amd program that allowes you to change graphics card setting, I don't know much about it, so I leave mine at default. Someone help us out please.
  14. I have a MSI RX480 gaming x. I've noticed some odd buzzing noises that I later found out were called "coil whine" I can deal with the noise, it's quiet, plus as soon as I turn my speakers on, I just don't hear it. But what does it mean to have coil whine, and does it mean my card is already going bad, or somehow defective?
