  1. I have now tried updating the BIOS as suggested by TheCakeIsNaOH over on level1techs forum. Sadly this didn’t fix it, the system is still stuck with the fans pinned at 100% but with no post, no screen output and no error beeps.
  2. So i have the strangest problem. I bought a Supermicro mobo (X8DTN+) for my nas with dual Xeon X5670 cpu's and 12x2Gb ECC reg. ram from Samsung/Hynix @1333MHz preinstalled. Before i first booted it i installed new thermal compound and inspected the sockets for damage. After i reinstalled the cpu's and applied new thermal compound i booted the machine and it worked fine. I also bought 6x4Gb Nanya 1333MHz ECC reg. ram which also worked as expected. A month later i bought a different Supermicro mobo (X8DTN+-F) with dual Xeon E5620 cpu's and 18x4Gb ECC reg. ram from Hynix @1333MHz preinstalled. I also installed new thermal compound and checked the sockets reseating the cpu's in the process. I booted it and it worked. Now for the weird part. When i went to change the cpu's to the two X5670 it wouldn't boot anymore. When i went to press the power button the fans spun up and then nothing happend anymore, no screen output no beeps no nothing. Then i changed the cpu's back to the two E5620 it wouldn't boot anymore aswell, no screen output no beeps no nothing. I then tried the following configurations all on the X8DTN+-F: #1 E5620 in socket 1 with any ram booted #2 E5620 in socket 1 with any ram booted #1 E5620 in socket 2 with any ram booted #2 E5620 in socket 2 with any ram booted #1 E5620 in socket 1 #2 E5620 in socket 2 with any ram in any slots no boot #1 E5620 in socket 2 #2 E5620 in socket 1 with any ram in any slots no boot #1 E5620 in socket 1 #2 E5620 in socket 2 with any ram in any slots no boot #1 E5620 in socket 2 #2 E5620 in socket 1 with any ram in any slots no boot #1 X5670 in socket 1 with any ram booted #2 X5670 in socket 1 with any ram booted #1 X5670 in socket 2 with any ram booted #2 X5670 in socket 2 with any ram booted #1 X5670 in socket 1 #2 X5670 in socket 2 with any ram in any slots no boot #1 X5670 in socket 2 #2 X5670 in socket 1 with any ram in any slots no boot #1 X5670 in socket 1 #2 X5670 in socket 2 with any ram in any slots no boot #1 X5670 in socket 2 #2 X5670 in socket 1 with any ram in any slots no boot While i tested i only had the cpu's and ram installed, i used the onboard graphics and used usb keyboard and mouse which worked fine when the machine was booted. No other devices were attached. I also tried running each config with only one and both 1200watt psu installed. The system is installed in a Supermicro SC745TQ-R1200B. I'm at a complete and utter loss. Any help is welcomed. I'm happy to hear from you
  3. So my Synology DS 218play died on me last week. Fortunately i was able take one of the drives out of it to copy all data to it so i still have a backup (i even mirrored it to the other drive i had in the Synology nas). Both drives survived. But now i need a new nas and because i was not really happy with the feature set of the Synology box anyway. I have an old Lenovo ThinkStation C20 lying around that i intend to use for my diy nas. The specs for the Thinkstation are as follows: CPU: Xeon W3550 Ram: 6Gb DDR3 GPU: Dell Radeon HD 6350 Psu: 625W I also have the two drives out of the old nas which are Seagate IronWolf Pro 16Tb (ST16000NE000) drives. I also have two WD Red 4Tb (WD40EFRX) drives that i have no use for currently which id like to put in there as well. And last i have a WD 250Gb (WD2500JS) lying around that could maybe be used for the OS? I know that i want to buy a 1Gbit network card because the network chip of the Lenovo motherboard is only a 10/100 chip. I will also need to buy a Lsi raid card in IT mode to use it as a HBA if i understand correctly and an external drive caddy if i want to use more than 5 drives because the lenovo motherboard only has 5 Sata ports. My biggest question is with which operating system i should be going with. I am already familiar with DSM which can apparently be installed on diy nas boxes as well. I liked beeing able to setup shares for family members and the phone apps. I am going to use this nas as a backup and media server for my htpc and my phone when i'm on the go. I am willing to go with a different os that has the same or a better featureset. I also thought about setting up a Plex server on the nas instead of using the buil in functions of dsm. I also want to know if the CPU can handle a 4k BluRay transcode to somthing like 1080p for mobile streaming. I am happy to hear your ideas and suggestions!
  4. It got better in March 2019 after i moved across town:
  5. I just found another way of doing it
  6. Hi Guys, (be advised im not a native speaker, im from germany, so if i get some things wrong please excuse me, so anyway:) so i want to do a few things with my home network but because i dont have any experience with networking i need some help. First of all i attached a shitty paint drawing of my current setup (in the green boxes) and my attempt of trying to come up with at least anything that might work for what im trying to achieve. To give a short explanation of said drawing: on the left top is my main rig which is connected to my switch in the same room via LAN 1Gbps. This switch is then connected to the router via a long ass 1Mbps LAN cable that i currently cannot replace or avoid by using a better cable or WLAN because the router is physically to far away to reach my cheap ASUS WLAN card. Which doesnt really matter because the house infrastructure only allows to the WWW (i usually get download speeds of up to 10Mbps so dunno what happened there). In the end i want to be able to stream videos from my main computer to my Laptop which i can not do at the moment because i guess the connection speed from my main rig to the current Router is too slow because of that shitty long ass LAN cable. (This is what the Router shows me as to what my connection speed is: ) So my attempt to solving this issue was that i tried connecting my old FRITZ!Box, that i still had lying around, via 1Gbps LAN to the switch to set up another Network with which i could be able to stream my movies via the old FRITZ!Box Router from my main rig to my Laptop. Thats however only my noob vision on things because i dont know nothing, not even if you can do something like that at all or what. Thats why i came here so happy cringing and whatever. I am open to any suggestion and links to other topics that already cover some of my Questions. Have fun and thanks in advance! Oh and here are all the network devices that are in my drawing: Onboard LAN of my ASUS Maximus VII Ranger TP-Link TL-SG1005D Switch New main Router: FRITZ!Box 7362 SL Old Router: FRITZ!Box SL WLAN Laptop Wirelesscard: Realtek RTL8821AENF
  7. So i did go with the sonys and thnks too all answers guys
  8. Sorry that i didn't put it right because i was trying to say that i want to get away from my CURRENT pair of standard accessorie sony iems from my last phone. So i wasn't hating about all iems and i know that there are very good ones out there, i even considered buying the jaybird x2, but i just dont want iems in general anymore because i personally prefer on ears.
  9. Srsly ? They do look good but the m40x which @Dackzy suggested do seem better even though they cost 20€ more Sennheisers are too expensive so sorry Im not shure about the creatives but the m40x are pretty decent although i wonder if the m50(x?) are worth the extra 50€ which would bring me 30€ over my budget but i would consider it if they rwally are worth it. And no iems please im trying to get away from my cheap ass iems thats why i posted here at all
  10. I just love the new Blade and it would be such a big relief not having to carry my big old heavy desktop to my friends lan parties anymore ?
