  1. If you aren’t going to be doing any MAJOR multitasking, the 8700K is your best choice. It’ll beat out the Ryzen in most “simple” multitasking needs and in gaming. Just make sure to put a nice overclock on it. Edit: as far as building be PC, it’s not terribly hard. Just take your time and be prepared to troubleshoot. Be patient as well. When installing the CPU, gently drop it in the socket (aligned) and give it a small, gentle little shake. Don’t worry about breaking any pins.
  2. Placement within the case? Honestly doesn’t matter TOO much. I placed mine in the back, as my exhaust, like so. But you can probably have it mounted anywhere, I’ve seen people put it in the front of the case and at the top.
  3. For the S2716DG, you have to enable GSync through the NVIDIA Control Panel if I remember right edit: and turn off VSync, it’s dumb
  4. I’m pretty sure the G903 can also have weights attached/removed, right? i suppose that could be a factor in his consideration. tho, i have a G900 and i think the weight is pretty close to perfection.. edit: I’m also pretty sure that the switches (are they called switches in a mouse?) in the mouse also have a better usage rating.
  5. I have the monitor, and I like it. It’s a nice display if probably calibrated. Though, if you aren’t gonna be able to make use of G-SYNC, then it probably isn’t the monitor for you. Unless you are gonna join team green anytime soon, I would look at FreeSync monitors instead.
  6. No, I mean that monitor is kinda meant to be overclocked. It’s not risky or anything. Out of the box it runs at 144Hz, or it refreshes 144 Times a second. Overclocking it would push the panel to refresh 165Hz, which is what it is technically designed to do. You should be fine.
  7. To be honest, I haven’t really monitored motherboard temps much so I can’t give you an answer for that. As far as the fans, I’ll give you a rundown of all the fans I have in my pc. So, in the front of the case, I have 3 ML120 Pro fans intaking. Then behind the metal bracket I have the X52 radiator mounted. Mounted to the radiator are 2 more ML120 Pros acting as a Push-Pull. At the top of my case, I mounted 3 more ML120 Pros for exhausts (I run these at low RPMs so that the GPU radiator/fan gets air), and at the back I have another ML120 Pro mounted to the GPU radiator (which is mounted to the case). Yeah, i guess you could say I like my fans lol.
  8. I’m no expert, but I don’t think there are any 1060s or 480/580s that can run below 65c (full load) on air. I mean, maybe if you undervolt it and run the fans at full blast, maybe, but I really don’t see a point in selling the 480 you have now for something else.
  9. I would say stick with the S24 honestly. I had a 24in display and a 27in display at my work but ended up selling them for a single ultra wide because I couldn’t get used to the size difference, but that may just be me. If I remember correctly the S24 also can run at 165Hz while the S27 runs at 144Hz, So that’s another incentive to keep the S24. Unless you really want the 27in display, you’ll be perfectly satisfied with the S24. What did you get the S24 for ($)?
  10. this season im a platinum 3, though I may or may not have gotten carried by my friends (lol). usually on most seasons I get gold 2 ish. if you are starting off silver 3 is fine. i think my first season I got placed like bronze or something lol.
  11. I have the Phanteks Enthoo Evolv ATX as well. I have a 1080Ti FTW3 Hybrid, and a NZXT Kraken X52 (240mm). I installed my X52 to the front of my case and have the radiator from my FTW3 Hybrid in the back, exhausting. Performance is great, I don’t see anything on the GPU higher than 50-55C. So yeah, I would recommend putting the GPU radiator in the back if you are going that route.
  12. Sorry in advance if this is posted under the wrong sub forum. Hey guys, So I’m building a new pc inside the Phanteks Enthoo Evolv ATX TG, and im trying to install my motherboard. My motherboard is the ASUS Maximus IX Formula. So looking at the motherboard, it of course needs 9 screws to be installed, 3 near the top, 3 in the middle, and 3 near the bottom of the motherboard. My case came preinstalled with 8 motherboard standoffs, and 1 more in a separate accessory box. The standoff that was not preinstalled is supposed to go in the middle row of standoffs and in the middle collum of standoffs (so directly in the middle). When I try to screw in the standoff into the case, I can’t get it to go in all of the way (to be at the same hight with all of the rest of the standoffs) with my hands. Any tips?
  13. 144hz 4k? Then you’ll need atleast one 1080Ti for sure. Tho you’d probably want to start looking into two 1080Tis in SLI if you want acceptable frame rates and graphics settings.
  14. Yeah, you are right. I ended up pulling the trigger on the 3600MHz ram yesterday night from Amazon for $462.22. May not be the best deal of my life, but oh well .
  15. Fair enough, thanks for the replies! Hmm, I might just do that, though I suppose that theres no guarantee that the Dominator Platinums will drop in price by a substantial amount (or any amount for that matter). Thanks for the reply!
  16. Hey guys, So for the past 3 months, I've been keeping a close eye on kits of 32GB RAM (from 3200Mhz to 3733Mhz) for one of my PC projects. My requirements for the RAM were (and still are): 1) Must be Corsair Dominator Platinums (I don't really have an explanation for this but they just have to be Dom Plats ) 2) Must be 32GB (4x8GB) and 3200MHz or above (because I'm all about that high life ya know? ) I had originally planned to get the 32GB 3200MHz (4x8GB) kit in August for $369.99. However, for some odd reason I didn't buy it, and I totally regret that decision. Quickly, that kit jumped to $389.99, so I decided to try and wait for it to come back down. Of course, it didn't though. Instead, it went up to $409.99, $439.99, and now, an insane $479.99. Right around the time the 3200MHz kit went to $439.99, I began looking at other (higher) speed options. A 3600MHz 32GB (4x8GB) was going for $449.99 on NewEgg, but right when I was about to purchase it, it went out of stock (just my luck, right?). Anyways, here are the current PCPartPicker links for the 3200MHz kit, 3333MHz kit, 3600MHz kit, and 3733MHz kit respectively: 3200MHz (currently in stock on NewEgg for $479.99): https://pcpartpicker.com/product/GCzZxr/corsair-memory-cmd32gx4m4b3200c16 3333MHz (currently in stock on NewEgg for $479.99): https://pcpartpicker.com/product/NyKhP6/corsair-memory-cmd32gx4m4b3333c16 3600MHz (currently in stock on Amazon for $462.22): https://pcpartpicker.com/product/BrNypg/corsair-dominator-platinum-32gb-4-x-8gb-ddr4-3600-memory-cmd32gx4m4b3600c16 3733MHz (currently in stock on NewEgg for $494.99): https://pcpartpicker.com/product/Z3hj4D/corsair-dominator-platinum-32gb-4-x-8gb-ddr4-3733-memory-cmd32gx4m4b3733c17 Looking at the part price history for each of these memory kits makes me depressed (lol). So, I've got the money to spend and am not really in any sort of budget (perks of being single amirite or amirite?), but I don't feel that spending $450 plus on RAM is necessarily worth it. "Then get some other memory, Dom Plats are way too overpriced anyways" you say, "or get some lower spec RAM" you say. And while I've considered these options, I am a very stubborn human being, and when I've got my eyes on something it WILL be MINE (hehe). I know this limits the ways you can help me, but I don't know if I should go ahead and buy the cheapest of all the options, 3600MHz kit, or wait longer (than I already have been) for the prices of the RAM to go down. The RAM has been the one thing preventing me from building my PC (I literally have all of my other parts ready to go in my basement), and I've really been wanting to build my new PC before Thanksgiving, though if I have to, I can wait until Christmas. Any advice? Thanks all,
  17. If you have the money and really care about noise/thermals, the Hybrid cards are amazing. I have a FTW3 Hybrid myself, and it’s an amazing card. If you’re not too worried about noise/thermals, the FTW3 and SC2 cards are, as someone mentioned above, a much better value.
  18. It’s true that EVGA’s cooling is worse compared to others, but really isn’t that significant, maybe some FPS here and there, but nothing to ruin your gaming experience. The reason why I still recommend it is because of their amazing support. Sure, you might not never need to use it, but it’s great to know you’ve got it when you need it. I was once installing an EKWB on a GTX 1080 FTW, and later found out I must have messed up somewhere and the card died. EVGA TO THE RESCUE! I put back the original cooler the best I could and then they replaced it with a brand new shiny FTW. That’s why I stick with EVGA for GPUs.
  19. Factory overclocks don’t really mean anything because of GPU Boost 3.0. Personally, haven’t been a big fan of zotac cards. A little too “goddy” for me. My vote goes to the EVGA FTW3 or SC2. Both are great cards.
  20. Sorry I’m advance if this is posted under the wrong sub forum. Hi guys, So I plan on removing the pre applied thermal paste from my Kraken X52 with Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut for my 7700K. I was wondering if the “Arctic Silver ArctiClean” thermal compound remover is worth buying? Would it be any better than just using some 99% isopropyl alcohol and a coffee filter? Thanks
  21. I use the Momentum extension because... well... A E S T H E T I C
  22. Why a 7700K, if you can’t overclock it? I mean, if you want an i7, a 7700 [edit: or 6700] makes more sense. Personally tho, I would try and get the Ryzen, especially for the better long-term support.
  23. Me too, iOS 11 is a nice OS. But this seems to be the only problem/bug I’ve encountered, and it’s quite annoying. I’ll probably head down to my local Apple Store and see what they can do lol. Thanks for the help.
