So I had just about enough of the fingerprint glossyness of my blackwidow, so I figured vinyl wrapping "how hard could it be"

    Standard glossy (dirty) blackwidow:

      Removed keaycaps and (seriously) clean:
Measured and cut a piece of vinyl to fit over the keyboard, with some to spare, started from one end pulling off the back paper protecting the adhesive. Lined it up and started removing trapped air with the rubber squeegee, pulling the back paper as I went along.

Same process over the entire keyboard, when I was done I got out the heat gun gently warming and pushing down in all the grooves that would be cut later, razer logo, edges around keycaps and so on.

Continued to heat and pull the vinyl around the back of the keyboard, looks messy, but it was my first time so what do you expect, we're gonna cut it off anyway
Cutting off the excess vinyl on the back, heating and applying some preassure on the edges after I cut them so the adhesive sticks peoperly
Back to the front, cutting out holes where the keycaps go, leaving a couple of millimeters to fold down later so it sticks properly and looks better when it's done
Heating the vinyl at the edges and folding down the ecess material so it sticks to the walls, holding it there for a few seconds so it has time to cool and stick.

All done, took a while but with a little patience it turned out all right for being a first encounter with vinyl

Most boring part, putting back all the keycaps, and putting the rubber o-rings on some of the keaycaps that I didn't bother with when I bought the o-rings (haven't botered with keys I rarely use). All done here:
All in all, if you have the patience this is a pretty fun, and not at all difficult project, I used cheap chineese vinyl, so you'd probably get even better results with proper 3M di noc, but i figured I'd learn with the cheap stuff, have other prjects coming up in the future where I will be useing some higher end stuff. Just a word of warning if you use a heat gun to keep your hand beside the vinyl when heating, so you don't ruin the vinyl with too much heat. If your not used to useing a heatgun, use a hairdryer instead, it's suppose to work too, or so I've heard
    Disclaimer:

I'm a noob to this, so this is just what worked for me. Just wanted to make this to show everybody thinking about doing a vinyl mod that it's quite easy

Hey everyone! I'm new to the forums but was told to come here and share my latest build. Been a fan of Linus for ages!

Let's get down with the quick specs of it:
Mobo: Z97 ASUS Gryphon w/Z87 Armor
    CPU: Intel i7 4770k 3.5GHz
    CPU Cooling: Corsair H100i w/Corsair SP120s
Ramrods: 16GB Corsair Dominator Platinum 1866MHz
    PSU: Corsair RM750
GPU: Nvidia Quadro 6GB / Nvidia Titan Black 6GB
    HDD: Corsair 256GB LX SSD
Case: Corsair 350D Window; custom powder coated Arctic White
    Capture Card: Avermedia C985

Still need to get different vinyls for the PSU/SSD to color match the system, an LED light kit, and a better mounting bracket for the SSD. OH and I need to sleeve an extra set of PCI-E cables for when the Titan Black is in the system.

I have the Quadro in most of the time (Boy these things run hot! 70c idle, geeze!) since I have my gaming PC, but for when friends come over I can easily pop in the Titan Black and they can game on a beast of a machine. Anyways, here's the pictures! Let me know if you guys have any questions, I'll try to remember to check this thread often. If not you can always hit me up on @potatoorgy. Hope that isn't gonna get me in trouble, not trying to advertise. :[

I just want to give you a word of caution. If you choose to buy a monitor that is too cheap, it may seem good at the time, but several months down the line you can end up paying for it in a bad way. An example of such a situation would be @zacfaulkner's.Here's the link to his thread and problem in detail —> http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/187071-my-experience-with-the-acer-h236hl/ <—.

zacfaulkner reacted to Peter Yacono in Direction of LTT / Feedback
    Hi Linus & Team,

I saw Linus calling for feedback via twitter in regards to the direction of LTT for the near future. He tells me there will be a dedicated thread for this, but I just wanted to add my 2-cents before I go out tonight.

Yes, to answer your question directly Linus, I think you should make a move away from phone reviews. As you put it, the youtube blogging community is packed with phone bloggers.

570,00 results come back on youtube when you type in the words "iPhone 5s Review".
Just to give you some further context, 6,600 videos come back when you type in "Define R4 Review. Probably the most popular case in the last 6-12 months.

NOW, Linus has to trade off between putting out the content he wants to put out, versus what's going to be picked up via our community AND THE MAINSTREAM.

Think about it this way ...  much like a pop artist, if they put out a rather left-of-center single, they might please just a small selection of the market. His/her fanatic fans, people into left-of-center music, possibly critics.
If that same pop artist puts out a pure pop song with lots of colourful melodies and pop-hooks, naturally their image and viewership will receive more traction.

Why is that important? Number of viewers should be important to LTT. It simply means more of a budget. A more diverse and complete team. More man-power and time to cover niche products, news or angles. Daily content and/or live shows. More traction from suppliers and vendors (as a youtube channel with 1+ million subscribers start to rival free-to-air tv networks, etc).

I'm still not really answering the question here.

Personally, I think what Linus and his team does best is audio, pc enthusiast builds and parts, tech-toys and tech news in general.

People like MKBHD dominate the phone review market. He has recently ticked over the 1 million sub mark, and you really have to admit, his videos are EXTREMELY well polished, EXTREMELY well produced and EXTREMELY complete. I would argue, why compete with that? What else does Linus have to say that MKBHD hasn't covered? As I said, he's normally quite complete and has excellent logic.

So if not MKBHD, how about the next phone review/blogger. Soon one becomes a needle in a haystack.

Why not differentiate ones self from the rest of the market by covering niche products and niche angles. I think the audio direction of late has been great. I think it hits home with a lot of tech viewers.

There will always be a strong craving from our community for enthusiast PC/mac grade stuff. Complete builds. Mobos. GPUs. CPUs. PSUs. etc, etc.

Tech-toys is once again, something more fresh. I loved the concept he bought to the table a month or two ago.. when we were asked to vote on Linus' concept versus Luke's.
Tech toys is BIG thing, and once again, it reaches into the mainstream market. Geeky mums and dads who haven't gotten into this community because upto now it's been quite hardware focused.
Presenting items like a nerf-gun that kills flies. What's techy/geeky. It appeals to a wider geek audience. Not just hardcore TECHIES who have a hard-on for overclocking and watercooling (well, not exactly, but you get my point).

The only other thing I want to comment is video grade and colouring of late.
Sharpness and quality of the image has been exceptional for about 1-2 months now.
I've noticed that the colour grading has been jumping around a lot in the last 5-10 videos.
This is not something I do, but I'm aware of colour grading... and if I'm noticing then I'm sure heaps more people are.

I think the video on the bose system gave you the most neutral grade. Today's video on the M8 looked a tad washed out and lacking reds, etc.
    Previous videos looked quite over-saturated.

As I said, I have very little experience in this area and could be way off.

ANYWAYS - I hope some of this helps.

Feel free to tack your 2 cents onto the end of this.

    Cheers all.

Try a tech store if you are into that kind of thing, like PCCG.
If you can drive, try to become a rep for someone like Arnotts, Cadbury or Coca Cola Amatil. It's usually a good job and I know someone who was a rep for SPC Ardmona (might be hard to get a job there now), and enjoyed it a lot.

I have got a DLINK DNS-320, it is great and powerconsumption is very low, noise is okay, when the fan starts spinning it gets kinda annoying.
Media streaming works fine even with this nas, so you should be fine with either of those.

Yes they are overpiriced, but they easy to use, and consume less power, most time.

If You are willing to pay that much and you just want it to work out of the box, take a nas.
Else Build your own home server.

IMO, I would build it myself. Ready-made NAS boxes seem overpriced considering their lack of versatility.

Though the QNAP seems better on paper, at a glance.

Never, EVER would I have thought that ANYBODY would be able to develop something as powerful as this, well, computer, in that form factor. It's a fully functional PC, and even comes with built in WiFi and Bluetooth support, and it's just the size of an SD card. Wow, that's amazing. This thing has to be expensive though.
