  1. I figured it out, it's ChaletOS found: https://sites.google.com/site/chaletoslinux/
  2. Hi, Does anyone know what desktop environment or distro this is? I know it stems from Ubuntu, but I'm not sure if it's ubuntu, lubuntu, or something else, and maybe with a different desktop environment. Does anyone know? Also, what is that clock on the top right? Thanks
  3. Hi, I am in the market for buying some monitors for a triple monitor setup. Ideally, I would like 144hz monitors at 1080p all around, and I found 2 good panels on massdrop, it's just that one is curved and the other is flat. Therefore, should I go with 3 flat panels or 3 curved panels? I have desk space, so it's fine. Monitors in question: https://www.massdrop.com/buy/zowie-27-144hz-xl2720-recertified-monitor https://www.massdrop.com/buy/msi-27-144hz-curved-gaming-monitor Thanks, jtpjr
  4. I completely forgot to mention that the laptop was running debian, and after running sudo ethtool eth0 the output was Wake-on: g and g stands for support for magic packet. Sorry for the confusion.
  5. Hi all, Last week I tried setting up WoL (Wake over LAN) over my LAN to be able to turn my laptop on remotely and use a remote terminal from my main PC. The remote terminal works fine, as I have forwarded port 22 for SSH. However, I have enabled WoL in the BIOS and my laptop's NIC does support it, and I forwarded the default WoL port (9) over a broadcast IP (192.168.1.255). But, when I send a magic packet over the broadcast IP, my main PC receives the message for my laptop's MAC address, but my laptop does not turn on. My only logical conclusion is that since it is a laptop and not a desktop, it does not constantly supply power to the NIC to be able to see and receive the magic packet in order to turn on. Am I doing anything wrong? Thanks, jtpjr
  6. Hi, I recently setup a laptop with Debian to server host some servers for me with ports that need to be port forwarded. My question is that since I am getting a new router to put in my room to act as both a switch and wireless extender, which router will the laptop's IP be recognized and need to be port forwarded. Verizon forces you to use one of their routers, so my setup will look like the one below when I get my new router DEBIAN-LAPTOP <-CAT6ETHERNETCABLE-> RT-ACRH13 Router in bridge mode <-CAT6ETHERNETCABLE-> Verizon stock router -> internet So again, which router will need to be port forwarded? Will my IP still be recognized on the verizon stock router for port forwarding with the N56U behaving as both a switch and wireless extender, or will I need to port forward in the N56U? Thanks, jtpjr EDIT: Replaced N56U with ASUS RT-ACRH13
  7. That makes sense, I'll probably run vanilla to begin with, and then I'll see about adding mods.
  8. After looking at both debian and lubuntu, I am torn between which one to go with, do you have any reccomendations? EDIT: After seeing that Debian is more popular and most likely has more solutions, I'm going with debian
  9. Okay, so maybe debian or lubuntu? And also that trick would be nice. Like I said, the only Linux i've ever used before is ubuntu, but I'm up to the challenge. This will STRICTLY be between only me and my friends, and it wont be 24/7 because the fan is earrape
  10. Anyways, that answered my quiestion. I'll wipe it to ubuntu tonight, and maybe even debian in future, as I need to learn debian for school. Thanks All!
  11. That's what youtube and these forums are for, lol. I am up to the learning curve, as Linux is an awesome OS, and I want to get into it. I have a raspberry Pi lying around my house somewhere, its just I never really had any purpose for it
  12. Plus the fact that I'm updating drivers now and I'm updating updaters
  13. Cool, then that really shouldn't be too hard. IMO, Windows for this laptop is a bit of a waste, my only problem with doing this is driver support, as this is a windows laptop from about 7-8 years ago.
