Apple’s new “Why Upgrade - See What You’re Missing” page
PocketNerd replied to creat0r's topic in Tech News
FOMO is their entire business model. Especially with this push of being a “luxury brand” And for a while people didn’t want to miss out on the latest and greatest because the latest did a better job of meeting their needs. Now? “Yeah I’m good, thanks.” EDIT: tried the tool myself, and literally the only compelling reason for me is the faster chip, I don’t care about the camera stuff. But even then it’s not worth the over $1100 Canadian buckaroos. -

Why? Purely out of curiosity -

This was dead in the water the moment M$ mentioned it would be connected to the Amazon App store. Surprised it lasted this long. -
A 1 Petabit DVD-like disc has been created
PocketNerd replied to Uttamattamakin's topic in Tech News
Isn't using Petabit instead of Petabyte a bit misleading given that the average user is accustomed to Terabytes, Gigabytes, and Megabytes? Don't get me wrong, 125 - 128 Terabytes (depending on who you ask, apparently) is still massive in terms of consumer-level storage. But this is like saying that something is 10,000,000 cm long when it's just 100 km long in a more sane level of representation at this point. Would still be amazing, just without the needless shock value. -
Except it's not

Apple confirms 256GB of storage will be on their Vision Pro
PocketNerd replied to filpo's topic in Tech News
One of the neat side effects with today’s storage is that larger capacity tends to equal longer longevity. so even if you didn’t use all of it, having more is still beneficial. -
Apple might have to pay in “batterygate” class action lawsuit
PocketNerd replied to cmcejas's topic in Tech News
This was actually one of those "scandals" I never quite understood. Should Apple have better communicated what was going on at the time? Yes. Was it some sort of planned obsolescence conspiracy? No, not really. Smartphone batteries wear down over time, this is an undeniable fact, they are going to have to be replaced eventually. -

Release now, fix later - Cities Skylines 2 Barely playable on mortal PCs
PocketNerd replied to Arika's topic in Tech News
I don’t need to have watched it to prove your statement false on a technicality. That said, I have not had the opportunity to watch it. Now if you said that they tested on a 4090 and vram usage was shown to not have been exceeded, then I’d have no issue. -

And? Unless the 4090 has limitless VRAM then it can still be exceeded. However unlikely it may be. -
Trick or M3-treat? - Apple’s pre-Halloween “Scary Fast” virtual event
PocketNerd replied to saltycaramel's topic in Tech News
Looks like Apple has effectively killed off the 13-inch pro with this announcement, and the death bell has been rung for Intel-based Mac support. Given their focus on getting users to upgrade/switch -
Microsoft concedes to buy Activision without cloud gaming rights

The only reasons I use an ad-blocker are thus: - They break up content to the point it’s a bad viewing/reading experience - They slow down the loading of the website (YouTube is not generally a problem) - There is no security surrounding them and can and will install malware Fix those? Ad blocker is gone. Like this very forum.
