as @YoungBlade says, AM5 is best for an upgrade. get a 7800X3D for gaming and a b650 like the gaming plus wifi. Keep the 6000 CL30 ram or try and find 5600 CL28 ripjaws s5

The odd thing to me is that, if you care at all about "future proofing" then you shouldn't even be looking at Intel options right now. The LGA1700 motherboards are a dead end platform. The 14900K is the end of the road for whatever motherboard you buy. So there's no point in trying to "future proof" an LGA1700 build.

If you care about future performance, you'd need to go with an AMD build, as the AM5 socket has future CPUs coming for it. In theory, it should at least go to the 9000 series, but this has not been confirmed by AMD. The 8000 series, however, is confirmed, and not just the APU options. Later this year, we should be getting new 8000 series chips based on Zen 5, and unless something is horribly amiss, the 8950X will be faster than the 14900K for all tasks.

With that said, I wouldn't be trying to "future proof" at all. It's a fool's errand. The only reason that "future proof" builds seemed to happen in the last decade is that Intel stagnated hard and AMD was non-existent. So the software industry couldn't move forward with games and programs that scaled to high performance parts, as they just didn't exist for the average consumer. There was no core increase on mainstream consumer platforms from Intel between the i7 860 and the i7 7700K (2009-2017). There was basically no meaningful improvement in performance core-for-core between the i7 6700K and the i9 10900K (2015-2020). And AMD didn't release a new CPU that mattered for high-end PCs from 2013-2017.

So if you happened to buy a Core i7 2600K in early 2011, the fact that you were able to keep using it and still playing the latest games until around 2019 or so was a bizarre fluke that has never happened before and probably isn't going to happen again for a while now that AMD and Intel are both competitive at the same time again.

Don't focus on future proofing. Focus on what your needs are today and in the foreseeable future and plan a build accordingly using existing parts.

And as an aside, PCIe Gen 5 is basically just bigger-number-better marketing for 99% of consumers. Unless you are a professional that knows that you need high storage speeds for video editing, compression, or certain types of programming and simulation work, you are fine with even a cheap PCIe Gen 3 drive. The difference in real-world use cases, outside of large file transfers, is basically meaningless.

You'll want a CPU/platform upgrade long before gen5 storage even make sense, unless you're dealing with terabytes of large files on the daily in which case you'd be asking different questions.

At this point you can sometimes get better usability off gen3 storage than gen4...

Please please do not TOUCH that computer until he has confirmed in writing that you are not responsible for any issues that occur now or later in the machine's life.

"YOU were the last person to touch it" is a VERY REAL and VERY COMMON thing to occur, even months or years later - especially with people who don't understand that you need to ugrade once a decade.

I mean, if there's enough documentation on the software in question you can probably find some way to get the keys for the software and/or successfully transfer the software to a new machine.

    But please do this first.

Bottom connector is the standard 3 pin 5V ARGB layout. The top one is an adapter to the 3 pin 5V connector Gigabyte used on their motherboards when they first launched their ARGB capable motherboards, but I believe most have now switched to the "standard" connector at the bottom.

Go into bios and make sure Pmw for that particular fan header is disabled. It may not read that there is a pmw fan connects so in turn it doesn't supply power to the header. Disable pmw and voltage control should automatically become enabled.

Just use a molex to 3 pin fan adapter. Fan will run all of the time and if you want to slow it down you can use a resistor in the circuit.

CCNA is nice actually. Pretty nice to know language, altough when you have over 100 switches and routers at play its quite the challenge. Cant talk about the other two, since wont have those.

Are those 3 different options or just a topic you can choose over another, aside from the QA?

CCNA is a very valuable course and gives you the essential information platform to build on. There is a lot of information contained in the course and if you truly master it you will easily be able to self learn from that point or take on more specialized courses. There are many networking/security people I have meet that still lack the embedded knowledge within CCNA which can be frustrating at times, even ones that have the cert.

I think everyone in IT that is in a technical role should have CCNA, whether your in a networking role or not i.e. DBA. It will help immensely even if only once but that one time will be worth it, guarantee it will help almost every day though.

Getting comfortable with Cisco equipment and having the knowledge that comes with getting your CCNA helps picking up on other IOS syntax's of Cisco or even other vendors like Juniper,Ciena and Alcatel a lot faster. Its interesting to see the different structure and features each vendor uses.

I would say go for the Information Security course. All three of those certs will help you out a lot more, imo, than the class with the single cert. Maybe circle back to the other one at another time but go for the class with the 3 certs first plus the three will give you more options as to what you want to go with in the future.

But that does not make it a programming language. You do not make programs with it, you do not script with it. It is actually a program itself. It is a software bundle that accepts commands and is used for configuration. It is not a command language (TCL is), and it is not a programming language. Even at the level that you're touching in your classes. It's closer to an operating system on it's own. It is written in C. It's actually been ported to Linux, via IOS-XR.

IOS stands for Internetworking Operating System.

It also isn't something that can be applied to non-Cisco equipment, and each version of IOS will have different commands depending on the equipment. I.E. router vs switch will use very different commands. Hell, 2960 vs 2960s vs 2960x will have different commands. Especially 2960x from 2960, since there is over a decade gap in-between those two pieces of equipment.

Again, none of this is meant to be offensive or abrasive. You have a little misunderstanding about a new concept that you're learning, and I just thought I should correct it so that misunderstanding doesn't stick. It's not semantics either, IOS is very different from a programming language, and not even quite an OS anymore. It's a package of software for switching, routing, and many other things bundled on-top of a multitasking OS. But it is not a programming language in any capacity. I hope this cleared up any confusion you may have had, and gave @Redsiskin some somewhat useful info.

The CCNA is a good slightly-above-entry-level certification. Learning enough to get it will give you a very solid base in general networking, and a solid base in entry-level Cisco stuff. I have it, and would recommend devoting some time into getting it.

A couple tips I could gather by searching the web:

    -Ground yourself
    -Use gloves
    -Insulate your screwdriver
-For the love of Cthulhu, unplug the PSU first!
-Buy an adapter since most PSUs use those small 2-pin connectors (or clip it off and solder if you're confident)

I would say, if you've already done it before, you should be fine.

What fan do you have in mind? (You should get one that's close to the same RPM as the stock one so its stays just as cool).

That said, my PC is 100% SSD and I haven't regretted a second of dumping my HDDs. The snappiness, the lack of noise (HDD noise actually was a huge issue when I was playing movies... Games it didn't matter).
