This doesnt realyl change much for the industry. Prices arent goign to go down because of this. Analysts have gone over why Steam can't match this price point. (The features they offer and all their upkeep costs means they would run in the red if they tried to match) and if they tried to go lower but didn't match Epic can take that and use it as marketing against Steam.
Theres a reason the EGS still doesnt have basic features. The upkeep costs would continue to climb higher and higher and they're already running the store itself at a massive loss. People can think this is Epic tryign to do good for the industry but in reality its them trying to make valve take a hit to revenue and back them into a corner.

AdmiralMeowmix got a reaction from Fnige in Roku Tries Its Hand at Extortion, Fails Miserably
"Fox didnt agree on an extension so its on them"

The issue with this logic is that it's entirely based upon a lie. Roku claimed it was a carriage dispute but Fox was more than ready to renew any actual extension of agreement and to let them host their app. The issue was Roku decided to demand more money from Fox. The term "strike a deal" is used and that in the industry implies Roku is wanting greater compensation for hosting Fox's apps or they're wanting more compensation than they have been given and Fox noticed their timing and likely raise of cost to be too coincidental. The announcement was too sudden, there had likely not been any actual long term negotiation behind the scenes until that point. Likely Roku sending in a demand for more money and Fox refusal, once the refusal hit instead of negotiating Roku pulled in the consumers as leverage against Fox. Roku decided to use the big game that will air in 4K HDR for the first time ever to try and extort Fox hoping they'd be desperate enough to get that content out there to make money that they'd accept a deal. Fox was smart and refused the extortion and will likely take its apps elsewhere.

This is entirely on Roku for trying to exploit a MASSIVE upcoming event for profit at the cost of the consumers. I can tell you right now it isn't a mistake or coincidence that this happened before one of the biggest money makers for Fox. Thing is it would be a massive money maker for Roku too due to ad space but they likely wanted to try and squeeze more out of Fox because of it being "the first 4k HDR super bowl". Negotiations on a deadline happen more often than not weeks in advance or at maximum a week in advance if a company believes it'll go by quick. NO ONE would wait until *days* before to try and negotiate and when refused go public about it. The timing isn't coincidental, it'd be *insane* of Roku to decide to demand negotiation THIS CLOSE to super bowl sunday.

Fox likely has some blame as I'm sure thew broadcast will cause Roku's servers to be used HEAVILY but Roku should also already have a way to profit in ad space for it anyways and if not then it's on them for that. It's Roku wanting more money on a surely justifiable reason at a glance but it's them trying to offset costs onto the app provider which is still scummy to do in any industry where you already have an agreed or fixed rate. It'd be as if Steam decided that it'd pull all of the batman games from its store unless the publisher or developers paid them extra money to keep it there outside of an actual copyright dispute that tends to only happen to copyrighted games made by dead studios. It's an extortion method thats scummy for business and scummy for the consumer when something like this happens on such short sudden notice. If it was say two weeks maybe a week in a half at the earliest of an announcement then I doubt it'd be suspicious but the timing is just too damn coincidental to be a coincidence.

Its very possible this generation can end up the same price or cheaper than the 20x0 series. As IF rumors are true and they moved on to Samsung they wont have a massive market of competition driving up their Dies like with TMSC who markets to a lot of companies and rivals. It also depends on if they are willing to try and be competitive and learn from the mistakes that they made with the 20x0 series launch.

I'm just hopinh this new architecture and such yields good improvement as for now there's just been no reason to upgrade from a 1080 ti in any capacity. RT still in infancy, even as cool as it is, and the very minor performance bump aint worth what they decided to charge. If the performance bump of this Ampere generation is just another small hip bump to the side then i doubt they'll see any real improvement in sales despite them discontinuing the 1080 ti series.

They'll likely keep the disc drive, Sony did help invent the blu ray player after all. The cartridges would likely purely be storage for games and such. Which would likely mean you'd have to keep track of which one has the games data on it that you want to play if thats the case.

The new controller is slightly smaller than the current one. The tower design is likely amazing for airflow and cooling and extremely cheap to build to help keep costs down most likely. Doing somethign fancy with the design would have increased a lot of manufacturign costs and they want to aim this likely at the $450-$500 range at most.

AdmiralMeowmix got a reaction from jagdtigger in Epic acquires Psyonix, will stop selling Rocket League on Steam
They aren't this brand new entity to the market, gaming stores have been around for over a decade now and they KNOW what features are REQUIRED to be there. They just don't want to FUND those features because it means they can't do their revenue split. People have analyzed the revenue split and Epics push for steam to follow suite, Steam would end up in the red if they tried it due to everything they fund and the features they have to maintain. Epic chose the baseline and the basic set of features they could do without going into the red so they could try to pressure steam into going into the red or risk losing sales due to exclusivity.

Epic's actively trying to kill other marketplaces because it would benefit them. Epic KNOWS what features a game store SHOULD launch with they CHOSE not to launch with those not because they're developing them but because of the costs. Once those features start getting implemented they wont be doing their current revenue split anymore hence the LONG delay of these features. Devs are essentially being lured by the promise of a low revenue split but aren't realizing that split is going to increase on them the moment Epic feels like it has too.

All those features everyone wants are likely all finished and ready to go they just want to keep getting more and more exclusivity deals and to try and force Steam to make a bad business decision before they raise their revenue split and releases the features. Publishers are also the most benefitted because THEY are the ones making the deals NOT the devs. Creator of Metro Exodus expressed his dislike of it before they had him remove the post for PR relations. The Outer World devs outright stated they had NO IDEA theiur publisher made that deal FOR them. The publishers are going to keep all that millions of dollars and the devs are just gonna be overworked even more to meet the publishers demands to appease the EGS because it means more money in THEIR pockets.

It's a lose lose situation for Devs who aren't indie and Consumers alike, the only people it benefits is Epic and Publishers. You can't just keep claiming "oh they're new they're new" forever it's been MONTHS now and they haven't bothered with basic highly requested features. All they've been doing is getting more exclusives to try and sell their platform. They're the bad guy because they do not think of the consuemrs they only think of what could potentially make them money, so they look for highly anticipated games, they look for hugely popular devs, and buy them out for exclusivity deals because they can not survive by just competeing in the market they can only survive if they can try to kill the other markets. Like Steam, like GoG, like Itch.io, etc etc. They want to kill the smaller ones and are trying to go for the throat on Steam. It's a BS marketing tactic.

Actually many are. It's the PUBLISHERS who are making the deals and the DEVS of Outer Worlds and Metro Exodus both didn't know it was going to be epic exclusive until the day the announcements dropped. They ARE forced into it because the publishers are getting millions of extra dollars from Epic to do exclusivity deals. The DEVS now then have to deal with the fallout of it, the DEVS now have to deal with ehther or not that publisher is going to give them, the money they got for it. The devs now have to deal with if they get the extra share that epic provides or if their publisher will keep the same cut.

The exclusivity is also highly anti consumers, it doesn't benefit consuemrs in any way shape or form. It creates divide and instead of competes aims to KILL ANYONE smaller than itself. They want to kill of platforms like GoG because they want them to be too small to ever compete. GoG has survived competeing with steam by offering advantages to consumers not exclusivity deals. GoG wont be able to survive if all the big releases only ever come to the EGS during the HIGHEST point of game sales.

It's anti consumer and anti competition. They don't want to compete they want to control.

Better him than that T-Series channel that has auto subscription bots, it'll auto subscribe random youtube accounts mainly in India but it's been happening elsewhere as well and they even gained subs during the youtube outtage. So better someone who has more than 90% actual subscribers than someone with like 100 real subscribers and millions of fake ones. And the person who bought all those ads did it cuz they didn't want t-series channel to artificially surpass pewdiepie.
