Microsoft might move jobs abroad due to US immigration policies
Tartandy replied to Levisallanon's topic in Tech News
I think if America tries to restrict immigration so significantly, this is the inevitable end result. In my eyes all it's doing is cordoning off the country for the international market. Global companies have global staff, there's no way around that. -
As a student in the UK honestly I'm surprised netflix subscriptions are so low. I do not know a single student at uni that does not have netflix. I'm guessing in reality a higher percentage of people in the UK have access to a netflix account considering accounts can have multiple users, however I have absolutely nothing to base that on beond personal experience. As for TV? I literally never watch it at home. Ever. The fact it's still doing so well is beyond me, other than those watching certain sports that isn't on BBC.

Great! You really have an ocean of knowledge on headphones by the sound of it.

Where would you draw the line at "better headphones"? I have the HD650S and trying to decide between the fulla2 or Magni 3/Modi 2 myself, on the fence about which to get. I'm pretty new to the headphone market, and have never bought a DAC/AMP before.

The minimum spec for the Oculus rift on their website is a GTX 1060. A 960 will not be enough to handle the rift well, you'd need to upgrade your GPU. Ram seems fine as does your CPU, so I shouldn't worry about either of them.

RAM speed or capacity?
Tartandy replied to heartlessglint1's topic in CPUs, Motherboards, and Memory
RAM speed has not got much of an effect on intel based systems, certainly not in the same way as it does with AMD builds. Also ask yourself really, do you actually need 32GB RAM to play games? Nope. Not even a little. I'd say just save yourself some money and stick with 16GB 2400MHz, especially with DRAM pricing being absoluetly bananas still. -
Have you tried putting all the parts onto PC Part Picker and checking for compatability there? If not then it does exactly what you're asking.

G-sync HDR Modules to add 500+ dollars to monitor price
Tartandy replied to Juanitology's topic in Tech News
Helps? yep. Solved. not for me at least, it aims to match the frame rate where possible but I still notice it when I'm gaming. Dips in fps can't be accounted for either. Perhaps I'm just looking too hard for tearing when I play as an excuse to get a new monitor, but damn I wan't 1440p 144Hz, and I'm sure I would regret it if I didn't get one with G-Sync... -
G-sync HDR Modules to add 500+ dollars to monitor price
Tartandy replied to Juanitology's topic in Tech News
I can speak to that. I rock a 1440p ultrawide without G-Sync at 60Hz, and while it's not by any means a deal breaker the tearing that I get as a result can be a real pain in the ass and distract me from what I'm doing in games.I plan on buying a 1440p 144Hz G-Sync pannel soon to use while gaming to get rid of the tearing, but I guess it just depends on how noticable you find it. -
G-sync HDR Modules to add 500+ dollars to monitor price
Tartandy replied to Juanitology's topic in Tech News
Now I'm far from an AMD fanboy, my current GPU is an Nvidia card, but honestly I don't think anyone would be surprised to see those two words in the same sentence. I do wish we had some more competition but I don't think the current status quo will be changing anytime soon with Nvidia dominating the high end. Where is Turing??? We've had pascal for so long, but why bother with anything new if you're already comfortably ahead, right? -
G-sync HDR Modules to add 500+ dollars to monitor price
Tartandy replied to Juanitology's topic in Tech News
Honestly I think if you're willing to spend $2000 on these HDR 144Hz 4k monitor you're proably the kind of person that would pay another $500 for G-Sync, and I think Nvidia knows that. -
Gonna agree with anghammarad here, I know there are videos of people with insane download speeds on steam, but that doesn't mean that every steam server is able to do so. For you to get download speeds anywhere near your network connection a lot things need to be working fast as hell. Perhaps the steam servers you download from are very busy, or far away. Now I understand that because you have 900+ downlaods you'd want that as much as possible, but just because you can get it, doesn't mean steam can always push data that fast. Chains are only as strong as the weakest link, and just because you're not necessarily the weakest link, doesn't mean that the chain is as strong as your bit the entire way.
