FPS-Russia reacted to Canada EH in Will Windows 7 be the new Windows XP?
I am loving my W7 Pro 64bit, I was using my Vista 64bit up until a week ago. I will not upgrade, not even to Windows 8, there is still a Windows 8 on the case, and somewhere I saw an Update O/S button somewhere in Start menu.

Dont people develop stuff for W7 today?

And probably that is why we have forced update. Microsoft was sick and tired or people not upgrading to Windows until they buy a new computer, and now, these days, computers last a crap tone long.

I think the problem is that they got rid of their Software Developer in Test. Yes it slows down the development a lot of Windows, but they could stay behind, and bug fix, and release as updates. Heck, maybe an "Enterprise"-Ring could have been done for even more robust OS build than officially released. Now the software developers needs to get the feedback, try and understand the limited description and information, and figure out the bug, and attempt to fix it, at the same time... work on new stuff. In result, it will eventually be good and solid like Windows 7, I mean we saw a big progress forward with the Anniversary Update. But it takes longer, and I think people with specific setup might encounter problems that will never be fixed as they are so few, and will never reach the voted amount to be higher priority to have it fixed, as newer features will introduce newer bugs that will make Insider Fast/Slow Ring report them, and get higher priority.

Companies tend to upgrade after the 3rd year of a new version of Windows. So it should increase in 2017.
I think Windows 7 increased a lot, because XP was way to old, and at the time, chicken wire had less security holes than the OS, and Vista was not an option if you didn't have a gaming computer, at the time, to run it nice and smoothly (it did push hardware forward, let alone OEM from selling overpriced crap, which was nice), so people could not hold anymore and switch. Mind you, Microsoft had a pretty strong advertisement at the time.. something that the company can't seem to replicate, or even care.

I can imagine McDonald's being sick and tired of people always eating burgers, and introducing a forced-fish policy on Tuesdays. Can't those dumb consumers understand that adding fish to your diet is healthier?

I think Microsoft approach isn't good. The proper way would be to push new features, and advertise Apple style (ie: everywhere ads), and work on their image. But they didn't/don't. Probably that cost money that is why. Mind you, Microsoft marketing team is awful at what they do, beside a few gems here and there. I mean Microsoft has done it with Windows 7. Windows 7, 7 seconds ads where everywhere, and pretty brilliant. I mean it showed new stuff of Windows 7, explained why you should care, and gives you a context for the new feature. Why none of that for Windows 10? I bet if they did, a lot would have upgraded, and no forced update crap, resulting in probably more users than now.

FPS-Russia reacted to Eztrcfyu in I can't get stable 60FPS in Fallout 3?
First thing you should do is let Geforce Experience optimize Fallout for you. It sounds strange but a lot of people (myself included) were able to get better and much more stable framerates by letting it do its thing first, then you can tweak the settings to what you want.

Get Dynamic Shadows too (http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/1822/?) if you don't have it already, it dynamically alters shadow render distance to try to keep your FPS at your desired target, and gives a huge boost in dense areas.

EDIT: Oops, I thought the thread was about F04 >_> My bad, although the Gefore Experience thing might still help!

Ah well (I was 1080p btw if it wasn't obvious) it should run fine since you have a 1080, I think a 1070/980ti would be more than enough for fallout at 1440p 60 fps so a 1080 would have no issue, it's not that intensive just buggy and badly setup driver wise at launch

Fallout 3 is horribly optimised for new hardware. Fallout 4 on the other hand is actually very nicely optimised for new hardware, and your system will run it smooth as butter!

Funny how people still think i5's don't bottleneck in games and that i7's have no benefit. 12FPS difference is non-existant then in a game like Fallout? Not to mention frametime drops and potential stuttering that does not occur nearly as often on i7s.

Can confirm this. I'd spent quite a bit of time trying to get this to run on my old FX-4100. No doubt you'd believe it was heinously under-powered for the job, but with a combination of ram overclocking and the shadow tweak, the game ran at a pretty reasonable 50-60 fps inside a fairly large settlement, and at about 30-40 fps while Concord and Diamond City. That's largely due to the overclocking the ram. The ram overclock made it not only play smoother, but increased the FPS by a good 10 frames. I've never seen a game benefit that much from ram overclocking.

Kinda, it runs a lot better on higher end CPUs but one way to help counteract this is having higher memory speeds since fallout loves faster ram

That's why I have my 4790k, if a game can utilize the threads an i7 can give an amazing boost.

Not necessarily the threads only, there is also the matter of more L3 cache, I'm using an i7 as well myself, albeit an older one. Does very well paired with a 290X reducing CPU overhead and performing exceptionally well together.

If you get distracted and fap for like 10 hours whilst making video in editor that is 1 minute long you need maximum 12GB's or more. Some people like to multitask but because only men on internet we fail at this.

I'm yet to see. I'm downloading the beta now. If I enjoy it, I might buy it.

I've played so many top-down shooters that are just boring. I'm not a big FPS player either (mainly playing rocket league recently), but BF1 does look interesting.

BF1 actually seems interesting, though. I'm not really keen on BF3 or BF4 anymore because of all the assists that are in the modern-shooter genre. Much prefer FPS based on WW1/WW2 that don't have lock on launchers and such.
