  1. He asked for hands-on advice from someone who has that kind of combination. Chances are high, he'd find it here and can ask additional questions. There is a reason for a Forum, that is one of them. Watching those kind of Videos doesn't give an answer. To keep your (crappy) analogy: He doesn't want to be spoonfed, he want's to know if someone tried that recipe and can give him an opinion on that recipe. I can go and look through comments in the section below the recipe and still have no idea, if it's any good.
  2. That's Virtual Box. Sometimes you can get away with using one core. Virtual Box doesn't use more than one Thread, so using more than one core splits that one thread and Windows/Linux tries to put them on the real cores of your CPU and will break realtime performance. So sound and other things will become choppy. Just make yourself a USB-Stick, boot the live version and try it. However, i personally would advise against Ubuntu (or Linux Mint or anything else derived from Ubuntu). If you run into problems, the Wiki is pretty crappy and you'll have to scour information for a long time. Try Antergos: It's basically the "Ubuntu of Arch Linux" in terms of how easy it is. You can choose if you want Mate, Cinnamon or Gnome (i personally use Gnome, but i'd recommend Cinnamon - just don't install all Plugins and Themes at once ) and if you run in to problems, the Arch Linux Wiki is absolutely freaking amazing. Also: You will get a lot better performance while gaming, since Arch uses the latest drivers. Another recommendation is: Get a spare SSD. Just a small, used one, 32 or 60 GB and just play around with it. Keep your Data safe, and if you are confident enough, switch and use it for a while. Oh and for Gaming, I recommend "wine-gaming-nine". It has extremely good DirectX 9 support, DirectX 10 support is also good and DX11 support is in the works, and works okay-ish. "PlayOnLinux" works also quite good, however it will install it's own Wine libraries every time, so you need enough space. If you are willing to pay some money: CrossOver is absolutely amazing and even runs Office 2013, which is a nightmare on it's own with Wine. The good thing is: The DirectX 10 support in WIne comes partly from CrossOver.

  4. Don't get me wrong, i know that there is a lot of effort involved with this kind of video and that earned a "like" from me. But judging by the Date in Windows 10, this Video is horribly outdated. The Bios Updates are coming in by the day, updates for games have been released in the last week - the situation is totally different. A lot of people reported that 1,48 VCore is okay, especially considering the 20°C offset, the last few days reports of 3200 MHz Memory came raining in, even some 3400 MHz results...and so on. A lot of the recent reports actually report performance pretty much on par with the i7-7700K. Dota 2 actually has had some 20-30% improvement with the patch, that came out 4 days ago (and since it is Source 2 based, the same as CS:Go, this would potentially put Ryzen even ahead of the i7 in this particular game engine) I do hope, you will bench Ryzen frequently. And even if Scrapyard Wars is going to be huge and very time consuming, i hope you'll find the time to do that properly...and make an exception for ryzen videos and put them out as fast as possible. But as i said, nice video, regardless of my critique Edit: Almost forgot, most of the Benches that have considerably different values, have been done on the MSI X370 Xpower Gaming Titanium

  6. I have to admit, i still haven't installed Hitman under Linux... I've only got 4.5 Mbit Down at the moment (yeah...Germany...probably the worst country in Europe for fast Internet) and it's 65 Gigabytes...so...it may take a while.   7. I have been a Linux user for about 10 Years now, most of the time though only on my trusty Thinkpad (or Elitebook, "back in the day"). Until recently i had an R9 270 @ 270X clock, then i bought an RX 480 for around 200 € (~ $235 i think...) with 8 GB. It was one of the cheapest and i'm planing to get an R5 1600 (or X, depending on how well they'll overclock) - in light of recent events around the RX500 and Vega launches, i probably should have waited a bit longer, but oh well Anyway, i have been running a lot of games lately under Linux, namely Metro: Last Light Redux, Hitman and Doom with Vulkan (With Wine-Staging). And i have to say, they all run pretty amazing. I remember back in 2015, when native Gaming on Linux was a huge PITA, because pretty much every distribution had their own libraries and you had to look around and install the right ones. Granted, with AUR on ArchLinux that's actually pretty easy, but it still wasn't as easy as it is on Windows. When Microsoft announced, they will not support Windows 8.1 any more with newer CPUs, it was clear for me: I will neither buy Windows 10, nor use it even though i had the Win 8.1 code registered for an Upgrade back then. I actually bought Win 8.1 and was one of the few that liked (and still do) it a lot - apart from the start screen, which isn't a problem with StartIsBack (or something like that). Long story short: Gaming under Linux is absolutely amazing, compared to what it was "back then", since with OpenGL 4.5 and Vulkan the libraries have been standardized, games will run no matter what. And the nice thing is, you don't even have to install them on Linux. Just download it and that's that. But the biggest surprise for me was the difference between Linux and Windows. Yes, Windows or rather DirectX is still faster quite a lot of times. But the difference isn't between "playable" or "not playable" anymore, it's pretty much the same as with R7 vs. i7: About 5-10%. Sadly, forcing FreeSync on not official FreeSync Displays is only supported on Windows...at the moment. Long story short: To keep it comparable though, I'd say we keep the focus on Unigine, since it's free and can be run on pretty much every PC with Linux and an OpenGL Card. (To keep it fair, i benched Heaven also in OpenGL Mode under Windows - and i should say that under Windows the card runs with 1340 MHz. Under Linux it runs with "just" 1291 MHz, because i was to lazy to overclock it via CLI...) I may be adding Benchmarks for Metro 2033 Redux and Last Light Redux, once i can figure out the Benchmark Utility under Linux (Or i will just pick a scene in the game and do a 5 minute "thingy" while recording frametimes - apparently voglperf can do that very well...)
  8. The Idea is absolutely friggin amazing. I was looking for something like that for about 3 years now! However, i can't get the jar file to run and after some digging through your blog: It only runs with fglrx, does it? So it won't work with AMDGPU and an RX480...that's sad Because CLI overclocking works actually pretty good, at least on my card. Also, one addition to the Android App: The usability with that background is pretty horrible White Text on black and silver checkerboard is pretty much unreadable...a solid or a gradient background would be a lot better on the eyes and would make it a lot more easier to read. Still, as i said, the idea is freaking amazing and i do actually hope, you'll keep up the work and get this kind of stuff going on Linux!
  9. If you really want to get into Linux, I recommend Arch Linux. I have no idea, why the Beginners Guide has been put down, but there is the archived version of it on the Wiki: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php?title=Beginners'_guide&oldid=446195 The Arch Wiki is also simply the best Wiki for Linux there is. Many, many things apply to other Distributions, since Systemd and others are "standards". There is also this one: https://github.com/jieverson/dotfiles/wiki/arch-linux-for-dummies However, i've become lazy and i use Antergos. It is basically Arch Linux, but with some extras. Like Cnchi, which does the Install for you, instead of using the CLI. Also, there is a live CD that runs pretty good. Apart from that, the basic system is the same. If you'd remove the extra repository, it would be Arch Linux. Anyway: Get yourself a VM, put it in UEFI Mode and just try things. You just have to be careful trying to Dual-Boot your actual System, since Windows will either overwrite GRUB (if it's on the same SSD/HDD), or it will change the boot order in your UEFI. You can turn off the Windows BCD entry inside the UEFI and lock it with lInux, so GRUB will chainload BCD. It's still pretty crappy...but it's microsoft, what do you expect

  11. Not sure how it is in the US, but here in Europe, just setting up the Hardware isn't the hard part. The hard part is getting permission to do that, pay fees and so on - all that regulatory stuff no one ever notices. Being responsible for so many people is also something that springs to mind...there are fire extinguishers and security stuff, that has to be provided and so on. I'm also not sure, why everyone is giving them such a hard time and why this has turned in such a bad mudslinging. Everyone needs to calm the fuck down and closing the forum is the only way to do that, because if not, this would be escalating more and more.

  13. Yeah, well, Dual-CPU Configuration It's 00:03 here Unfortunately, there are a few things wrong with that. The Define R4 doesn't support the SSI-EED Format of the Mainboard.4 TB SSD is overkill (but it would be possible to use 2x 120 GB "normal" 840s...)The E5-1650 v2 has no support for Dual-CPU Configurations. Could work, but thats a big risk to take.I'm not a big Corsair Fan, so i'm not going to build a system with Corsair Ram Also, it's not on the compatibility list of the Asus Board and it's only 1866. (Yes, i know, the controller on the E5 can only do 1866, but ASUS says it's no problem)The Areca RAID-Controller seems to be A LOT slower, than the Adaptec. I can see no PSU in there. Also, the UPS seems a bit small... :unsure:
  14. The E5-2643v2 is also IB-E. But it has also 5 Mb more L3 Cache and is Dual-Slot CPU. The other alternative would be - if i'm not mistaken - the E5-2687Wv2. But it's at least 500 Euros more expensive. And i'm not entirely sure if Premiere uses more than 12-Cores anyway.
  15. GTX Titan is "in stock" That's why it's not in there. And since the Redcode seems to be heavyly reliant on the CPUs, more GPU's would not make a difference. And the quality difference is also noticable - or so i'm told from the client. And since the Red Rocket is a special render card for the Redcode RAW, it's only the decoding...
  16. Hi, i'm Building a 4k Editing Machine for a client, that needs to be able to handle Redcode Raw "live" in Premier and also AE. I'm not 100% sure, what settings he is using, but i believe it's RC42 and 7,5:1 in his 4k Red Camera - but with 60 FPS, so probably about 100 MB/s.   17. It does have the Piledriver-Cores, wich means it's about 10-15% faster, then the 750K - wich it is. I've got a 750K and compared it to the 760K. But it doesn't make that much of a difference. Well, yeah, i would change that Board. The Extreme 6+ is pretty good, but if the 4+ is cheaper - get that one. Same Layout, same chipset and the Soundchip on the 6+ isn't very good - don't know why, but it produces very bad distortions... The difference between Stock and 4,3 is very noticable, but i bet you won't notice the difference between 4,4 and 4,6 without looking at the numbers. If you are doing a lot of Videoediting or Rendering, then yes. You notice it also a bit in Lightroom or Photoshop - but not in Games. At least, i don't^^
  18. Well, the Jump from 4,3 GHz to 4,6 GHz needs a bump to 1,475 VCore. At least in my case. I can't get my 750K over 4,4 GHz either. Even with 1,55 VCore it won't run stable, so i just run it at 4,4 GHz - and to be completely honest? I don't really care I can play nearly everything in F-HD and max Quality - yes, the GPU is sometimes probably bottlenecked, but i have the MSI Afterburner with OSD running and most of the Time, the GPU is over 90% load. If you are not comfortable with bumping the VCore up a notch, then just don't do it^^ 4,3 GHz is a HUGE jump from the stock 3,8 GHz (because the Turbo of 4 GHz is not on all cores equally - and sometimes just doesn't work at all). Also i noticed, that with stock VCore and 4,2 Ghz the 760K runs pretty cool. At least with a Thermalright Macho 120 it doesn't get over 55°C. While gaming, it hovers around 45-50°C. And i don't hear anything - even with open case.
  19. Sorry, but those answers from you guys are crap. @tomekh, how did you fit the PSU? What Case do you have? Is the 4100 Overclocked? Are you really sure it's the PSU? What Mainboard are you using?
  20. Sorry, but what kind of advice is that?? Because just right now you don't have a USB 3.0 device, doesn't mean you will never use it? Apart from that, every USB 3.0 capable board has also USB 2.0 ports. @ deadravel: Everything with a A78 or A88 Chipset is good. ASRock FM2A88M-HD+, Gigabyte GA-F2A88XM-DS2, MSI A78M-E35, Gigabyte GA-F2A88XM-HD3 and so on. But personally, i wouldn't buy anything without coolers on the voltage regulators. They tend to get quite warm (especially with that A10) and everyone who has something to do with silicon knows, that only 10°C more is about 1-2 Years of "statistical" life less. (Thats btw another reason why i think the Build Linus did is not very good) The ASRock FM2A88X Extreme4+ is a VERY good board and has coolers on the voltage regulatros...and at least here in germany it costs only 5 Euros more then that FM2A55M-DGS R2.0

  22. I wouldn't. I would get the 760K, overclock it to 4,4 - 4,6 GHz (depending on the cooler) and wait what Kaveri/Carizzo is going to bring. AM3+ is pretty much dead IMHO. Not because of the FX-CPUs, but because of the AM3+ Chipset. It's old, uses a lot of Power (i'm totally convinced, with newer and better Chipsets the Power Consumption would be much better), needs extra chips for USB 3.0, S-ATA 6 GB/s and PCIe 3.0...FM2+ is such a good platform - i never had any problems with it and i probably build about 20 FM2/FM2+ Systems, including my own^^ And who knows, maybe AMD is answering our prayers and gives us a 3 Module Kaveri Athlon and maybe even a 4 Module Carizzo FX-APU^^ And you need to show me an AM3+ or Intel System with that much Power, that drops down to 36 Watt @ Idle - even overclocked. Granted, under full load even the Piledriver Cores need a bit more power then the Intel - but what do you expect from a 10nm difference on the litography. That's about 2-3 Years in research...and it's not even AMD's fault...
  23. As i don't have a 6300 to Benchmark it myself, i have to rely on the different online databse entrys. And if i do that, the 760K @ 4,6 GHz is ALOT faster then the Stock 6300. It is also a huge improvement in Power Consumption. You can have C6-State and CnQ turned on while overclocked, so Idle Consumption is down to 36 Watt with that System (wich is IMHO because of the PSU. I tested the same System with a 500 Watt Bronze PSU and it was stuck at 68 Watt Idle). Naturally, if you use 6-Threads all the Time, the 6300 will be a little faster. The Benchmarks for BF4 and Crysis 3 are done, and TBH i was blown away by the results. Both probably would run a bit faster on a 6300@4,6 GHz, but not by much. BF4 runs in F-HD and basically maximum Settings (a few things are turned off, like Motion Blur, Weapon DOF and Post Processing is turned down a little - apart from that everything is on High) with about 45-50 FPS in Single Player and 30-40 FPS in Multiplayer. Crysis 3 is pretty much the same, although it "spikes" sometimes up to 70 FPS. GPU Load is allways at 98-100% in both Games. Metro 2033 has some glitches in the build in Benchmark. While Playing the Game it drops sometimes down to 35 FPS, but most of the time it's solid 55-60 FPS.
  24. Nope, it's definately not better Perfomance, then the 6790K. And that has a lot of reasons: The 750K is Trinity-Based. The 6790K is Piledriver-Based and that alone is a 10% Increase of IPC. Piledriver is also more efficient then Trinity. Also, most of the 750Ks have some sort of "Limit" at 4,5 GHz. Piledriver are very easy to get to 4,8 GHz. So you have to pick the 760K. Oh, and the 750K doesn't support PCIe 3.0. Also the 6790K has a baseclock of 4,0 GHz, while the 750K has only 3,4. TurboClock on the 6790K is 4,3 GHz and on the 750K only 4,0 GHz. OpenCL Performance is A LOT higher on the 6790K, then on the 750K. 4 GB is not enough. The 7850 isn't really that much faster then the 260X. You have choosen a FM2 Board, wich will not support the upcoming Kaveri and Carizzo APUs/Athlon CPUs, so no chances for upgrading that machine without a new Board. So, no, no better Performance.
  25. Hi, as some of you may remember (or probably not ), last year i did a Userreview of the 750K wich was (and still is) overclocked to 4,4 GHz. I'm a Journalist for a small german Online-Magazine and we thought for the PS4 and XBox One releases, we could do a PC with similar/better specs ourselfs and write about it. Well, the Testing has taken a little longer then anticipated because of some mechanical Problems (The first time the Thermalright Macho HR-02 was to big for the case, after that was sorted with the smaller Thermalright Macho 120, the Mainboard died because of a very bad misshap and so on...), it was published only a few weeks ago What did we choose: AMD Athlon 760K ASRock FM2A88X Extreme4+ (wich was changed to the Extreme6+ by our supplier, after the unfortunate death of the 4+ and no 4+ was available) Gigabyte Radeon R9 270X Windforce 3x OC 400 Watt BeQuiet StraightPower 80+ Gold (over 90% efficiency, BQT E9-400W) 8 GB DDR3-1600 RAM Kingston V300 60 GB Cooltek Antiphone So in retrospec to Linus('? es? s? not sure what would be gramatically correct...) Value APU-Computer buildquide, i thought i could share some of the Benchmarks we did on our System. There are Still a few Diagrams missing, i don't have access to all of them at the moment (don't ask why...*sigh*), but i'm going to put them on here as soon as i have them^^ So without further ado:
