I run a trow it together desktop, with a 160gb WD boot drive pulled from a Dell computer and a 320gb WD blue mass storage and pulled from a Dell as well, both in which in ide mode. I have the slow 160gb boot drive because i don't have any other way of storing my files to re-install windows 7 to the 320gb drive, than a 320gb for Steam library's, music, pictures and 3d modeling files. It gets the job done right the first time no complaint.
