  1. Hi, so I have a MacBook Pro Late 2012 Retina (A1398) and I'm planning to use an EGPU with it so I can play better games using bootcamp. Currently, what I have/ordered is: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B072L9QTZT/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 (EGPU box) https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01MQ26QIY/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1 (Thunderbolt 3 to thunderbolt 1 converter) Thunderbolt 1 cable And a ZOTAC GTX 1050ti (An external display, HDMI Cable) MacBook Pro Late 2012 Retina (A1398) So I was wondering if I put all of these together will it work and what troubles may I have to go through getting it to work. For example, my MacBook supports only thunderbolt one which has a transfer speed of 10gb/s but the EGPU box uses thunderbolt3 which is 40gb/s. Would this be compatible if I use a converter? Does a graphics card really need more than 10gb/s? When I plug everything in will my computer recognize it when I use WINDOWS that I installed via bootcamp? Is there anything that I need to be aware of when working with these or anything else that I may need. I've been getting many mixed answers about this, but nothing specific for my specific model. (No, I do not care that this is supposedly a "waste" of money, I just want to know if it works or not and if there might be any problems with this)
  2. wow now I feel like I got ripped off at fry's I'll see if I can try to get it
  3. I already have thi fan: https://www.google.com/shopping/product/2010046521298180085?lsf=seller:6136318,store:2824197551625125398&prds=oid:506164778095301635&q=frys+thermal+take+17"+laptop+fan&hl=en&ei=6kupV_6mDM3OjwPRgq74CA
  4. yea as I said I already have one for the bottom... would adding another one for the vent on my laptop be helpful or just a waste of money?
  5. My laptops not really thin at least an inch lol but I already do have a fan on the bottom for that its a thermal take with 800RPM one HUge fan for 17" Oh yea it also does have a huge vent on the side
  6. Hmm should I get one of those vacuum external fans too? https://www.amazon.com/LC05-Cooling-Auto-Temp-Detection-Compatible/dp/B00XKU47Y2/ref=sr_1_sc_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1470712024&sr=8-1-spell&keywords=laptop+vaccume+cooler or https://www.amazon.com/Opolar-Laptop-Temperature-Display-Cooling/dp/B01E3Q7FS6/ref=sr_1_sc_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1470712024&sr=8-3-spell&keywords=laptop+vaccume+cooler This way it replaces the function of the internal fan?
  7. Do you think I can keep my laptop alive with ice packs covering the part that gets hot, and an external fan covering everythign else? It seems to be working even while gaming...
  8. alright thanks./.... but still... is it possible to add/change/register the external fan as the internal fan as a way to "trick" the system But yea.. I prob won't open up my laptop...
  9. But im still wondering if its possible to add/change/register the external fan as the internal fan as a way to "trick" the system
  10. HP Envy... and a repair shop's like 230$? (at least costco is) (My warranty is gone) My parents wont even take me to one regardless ebcause they want me to stop gaming.. so im kinda on my own ordering things online to my friends house and repairing it myself. (im 15 btw)
  11. Is it reccomended? Its my first time even touching the inside of any electronic device....
  12. is there really no other option? I can't replace the laptop.... I've got 80$ tho... It works I just gotta press ebnter at recovery mode... but im scared because its limit itself for gaming... Can I add/change/register the external fan as the internal fan as a way to "trick" the system (Im literally using that laptop rn)
  13. So... I'm really new to this... Sorry if I fail... OK so I have an HP Envy. I dropped my laptop and the screen cracked and the laptop fan inside got out of place. Ever since then I've been using it as a desktop with an external fan. Now... while I was moving my laptop.. i heard this HUGE crack sound from the laptop fan (internal) and now whenever I boot up the PC... I get error messages saying a required device is missing and press enter to continue and all that... At first it would shut down after that error message in boot up.. By some miracle, after a day.. it works after boot-up.. However, now im afraid my laptop's gonna get fried/ and the performance is worse... For now I'm living with ice packs and external laptop fans... I don't know how long it will last... I need help/suggestions. I'm sure that my laptop may not get fried if I can handle this carefully, however, the computer is limiting itself and is being stubborn due to the fact a required device is missing. So I'm wondering if it is possible to register my external laptop fan (USB) as the internal laptop fan on my WINDOWS 10 Laptop... If this is not possible.. Is it smart to open up my laptop with this fan broken...? Are the tools expensive? Is the Fan expensive? And no, for those who are salty and wish to ruin one's day, I will not buy a new laptop due to my current circumstances. I forgot to mention... The internal fan isn't working AT ALL... like not moving at all.
