I've said this countless times, but I'll just keep saying it for as long as it remains a completely unnecessary ultimatum.  Why on earth are we being forced to choose either low resolution or crappy refresh rates?  Even 1440p is a massive improvement over 1080 without the performance cost of 4k, yet it's never supported on laptops like this.

Instead of having crappy resolution and overkill fps or overkill resolution and crappy fps, why won't a single manufacturer offer something in the middle that would offer a great overall experience without the compromise?  It's a shame, because otherwise this seems like a great "does everything" laptop.

LoneKrafayis got a reaction from appy_fizzy in Summer 2019 GPU Buyer’s Guide
It is not really a build guide video. They cut parts off the list and sometimes items appear more then once on the list. I did look at it and try to write it up. They do not show a list for each price point. My price points are what is spent on the GPU, and notes the changes I could see.

$80 CPU that is cut off (Ryzen 3 2200G is about that price in USD)

    MicroATX $100 ASRock B450M PRO4

    RAM $70 8 GB 3000 DDR4

Disc $40 is 2 TB Hitachi 7K3000 mechanical storage

Power supply $45 is Corsair 450 Watt 80+ Bronze

$100 - No new cards to recommend.

    $150 - RX 570

Switch to Ryzen 5 3600 here
Switch to Corsair 850w 80+ Bronze

$240 - Vega 56 Used if used is ok (or $270 GTX 1660 Ti new)

Switch to 1 TB Intel 660p SSD here
Switch to 16 GB of budget RAM here (kinda have to see video)

    $330 - RX5700 beats all (or $350 RTX 2060 for Nvidia drivers)

Switch to Ryzen 7 3700X here, stock cooler
    Switch to ASUS TUF X570-PLUS
Switch to faster SSD, Sabrent Rocket
Switch to faster RAM, Ballistix Elite, still 16 GB
Switch to SeaSonic Focus Plus Gold 850 Watt power
This a place where you can get comfortable.

    $500 - RTX 2070 Souper (or $400 RX5700 XT with open cooler)

Switch to faster RAM, G.Skill Trident Z Royal 16 GB
    Add RGB

$775 - RTX 2080 Souper (no competition at or past here)

It makes sense to use the APU at the bottom end, as it lets people take their time finding a used GPU. It also give the used GPU buyer a known-good system for testing their purchases.

    I bought one of these:
    http://a.co/aQevuhu

It is a 7CM thick cooler that fits intel and AMD based systems with a universal mount.

I'm not paid to advertise or anything, I bought this myself.

First, the cost. On amazon, its really really cheap!!
I'd be surprised if they are still making them to be honest, but I hope they are, they are a pretty good cooler.

Here is what it looks like on an ITX motherboard with an alienware PCIE riser:
As you can see, it is quite a tiny cooler, but it works extremely well.

    First, the cooling performance.
About 2K RPM resulted in my 4.4ghz 6700K staying between 50 and 80 degrees under full load, I think I have a faulty sensor... But the heatpipes were simply warm, not hot, but warm, so I'd say its probably closer to 50. It keeps the whole motherboard much cooler than an AIO or 212 evo would, as it blows down onto the board.

The heatpipes don't really have full coverage of the CPU IHS, but that didn't seem to matter.

At 2K RPM, its not the quietest thing ever, but I was honestly amazed at how quiet it was. I've got my motherboard set to "silent" and I can't tweak the fan speed any lower, so I'll deal with it...

Except for the motor whine. Its AWFUL. It makes a horrible high pitch squeal at really any fan speed. I ended up pulling a fan off of a spare corsair AIO I got from a PC store, which eliminated the whining noise.

    Lets talk about the mount.
Its almost perfect. It has two sets of brackets that screw into the side of the main block, one for intel and one for AMD. None of those stupid intel to AMD to heatsink adapters that other cheap coolers use. I used the intel one obviously, and my only complaint is that the thing mounts without a backplate, and I am not a fan of backplateless CPU coolers, so I got an LGA155x backplate and just drilled the holes out of it, and that prevented any warping on my board.

It came with a weird thermal paste, I would call it putty rather than paste... But it seemed to work fine, I ordered some arctic ceramique at the same time, but it arrived a couple days later. After putting it on instead of the stock paste, I saw no differences in temps.

The fan is a 4 pin PWM fan, but like I said, the motor whine is horrible. It is also a NON STANDARD thickness, and the mounting pegs for it only fit the original fan, but it looks like if you take the fan brackets off, you could screw a new fan on ahead of time. Not something I can do while the motherboard is in the case, so I zip tied the new fan in place.

In conclusion, its a pretty good cooler for a super low price, and a pretty low profile.

    Any questions? Post them below!

    Noctua NF-F12 PWM Cooling Fan
    Noctua SSO Bearing Fan
    2x Toshiba OCZ Vector 180 960GB

Will this build be sufficient? It's my first build. I tried looking for the ADATA RAM but could not find it even in their website! I got the Crucial instead. Also, is this processor considered good to work with the TITAN X? I will be using this PC for 3D design and rendering.

Looking to figure out what lengths Linus used in his build in this case.

Only need 24 pin, 8 pin, and 6/8 GPU pin lengths.

If anyone could help from LMG, it would be greatly appreciated.
Just so I can start pre planning a build in the case mentioned.

    I can second that.

    I would guess the following:
ATX 24pin: 250mm (sadly the minimum, I think 200mm would also be enough)
EPS 4+4: 250mm - 300mm depending on the location of the connector on the board
    PCIE 6+2: also about 250mm?

The Dancase A4 will be available this winter at Caseking.de for the EU and Overclockers.Co.Uk for the ROW. The price will be around the same as Kickstarter.

The case was available on Kickstarter a few weeks ago, and they sold over 1,600 units at $280 USD (w/tax & delivery). I bought one then.  I'm going to move my i3–6100, 512 Samsung 850 pro, and GTX 1080 FE when is arrives.

Anandtech just confirmed that i3-6100 is the currrent budget king. I had bought it because other Skylakes were well above MSRP at the time. (I am expecting to replace it with Kaby Lake, someday.)

    Dear LinusTechTips,

I'm not sure if this would be the right place to ask, but I've been folowing your youtube videos for quite some time. Especially because it always give me new ideas to work with.  I'm a neuropsychologist and researcher working with a medical team (Led by Dr. Manuel Jacobson Teixeira and Dr. Wellingson Silva Paiva) at the Clinical Hospital of the University of São Paulo in Brazil. We are currently studying cybersickness provoked by the immersion in VR with Oculus Rift Development Kit 2. Our studies are focused to treat traumatic brain injured patiens and create new methods of cognitive training and neurological rehabilitation. After watching the Zotac Magnus EN980 I was amazed with the possibilities of a relatively low weight and very small computer.
I saw today that you managed to make something better: "Ultimate Compact Gaming PC 2016". We are currently using my personal PC to conduct our studies (i5 2400, HD 7970, 8GB ram, and the case is a thermaltake chaser mk-1) It is a very heavy and large PC and far from optimal to work with VR.  I would like to ask if you guys are going to sell or dismount the Ultimate Compact Gaming PC 2016. It's size would be perfect to make our studies inside the Hospital.

    Thank you in advance.

    Thiago
