  1. I guess it's a catch-22 since I don't know what work I'll have to do on my laptop vs the school desktops. But doing the heavy lifting on the desktops sounds reasonable, so I think I'll forgo the quadro, thanks!
  2. Has anyone had a bad experience using something like a 960m with cad programs?
  3. Is there a database somewhere that has performance data for quadro and geforce cards in programs like autocad, solidworks, or inventor?
  4. So I'll be be going to school for an undergraduate mechanical engineering degree. My question though is whether to get a laptop with a Quadro, and whether I will even need it. For potential Quadro laptops I was looking at Dell's Precision 5000 or 7000 series. If I decide I don't need one I'll probably get something along the lines of a XPS 15. Will a 960m be able to handle what ever acceleration that needs to be done in cad and rendering? If anyone has advice from experience, or any other opinions, then I would greatly appreciate the help. Thanks.
  5. The buttons on the back of the phone look amazing compared to the side buttons on my GS3, I also like the amount RAM so I can rival my desktop for chrome tabs
  6. Yes that is what I am referring to, but could a broken fan cause the crazy readings on the tachometer in RPM? I'm trying to figure out what is causing the fan not to spin...whether it is broken or something else is stopping it.
  7. Hello everyone, I am having some issues with one of the fans on my 7970. About 2 months ago, the fan nearest the outputs appeared to have failed (3 pin as opposed to the others being 2 pin). It did not start up at all or anything. Along with it not working, the RPM's that are reported by anything like Afterburner, etc. are like stupid high: I think this is because its the 3 pin fan with the controller? I am not sure if that could be it. But more to the point: once it failed I contacted Gigabyte and requested a replacement fan, I did not want to have to send the card in, that was 2 months ago. So, I decided to just order one off eBay that was "supposed" to work for 12 bucks and it arrived today. But, I noticed that it was a different model and brand. It also said 0.34 amps on the back, as apposed to the 0.2 amps of the stock fan. But it looked exactly the same and it fit perfectly, so I swapped it out and it did not react when the computer was turned on. Now though, no RPM's are being reported at all (the graph itself is not showing up in afterburner) and in GPU-Z the fan RPM's are: "--". So, beyond me maybe ordering the wrong fan could it be the 3 way splitter that goes to the fans from the card? I was hoping somebody with a bit more experience could help me out. Thanks in advance, Matt B)
  8. I use a 128 GB OCZ Vertex 4 for my OS and programs, a 2TB Seagate Barracuda for games (got it for cheap), and a 2 TB WD Green drive for mass storage. I really like having my desktop extremely fast and having enough space for all games and files. I also have an old P4 that I recently turned into a NAS, although I am only using the one old 120 GB drive it had for backing up my backups. 1+ to WD for all the support of LTT!
