"If LTX 2020 doesn't happen, I'll eat my Stealth Hoodie."
That's what Linus said in the video down below at exactly 4:20.
Obviously this is just a joke but I watched some old LTX videos in the background while working on a laptop and though I would share it with you.
Please don't eat your clothes. 😅

I just ordered my framework in germany. Its not as much more expensive as it seems, because there are no taxes added in the US. If you go for a diy version and get the RAM/SSD seperately you can save a lot of money. I went for a 1tb ssd with pcie 3 instead of 4 and that is cheaper than the framework 500gb ssd. You can also save a lot of money by buying your own windows key (if you need windows)

I'll try using my existing ATX PSU. I guess it'll be fine since my GPU is short enough to fit with an ATX PSU installed.

I really loved the looks of the 700/900 series reference cards. These were the current cards when I started getting into DIY PCs.

be quiet! Pure Power 11 400w and Bitfenix Formula Gold 450w are efficient at low loads. The Bitfenix is by far the better psu.

Seems like your HDMI cable is connected to the motherboard. The Ryzen 5 3500X doesn't have an integrated GPU so the video connectors on your motherboard won't work. You have to use the video outputs of your GPU. This is not a defect.

Since Windows 7 reached EOL I would really suggest upgrading to Windows 10. Trying to keep windows 7 running is pointless. The OS is over 10 years old, software support will get worse.

Seems like a better build overall.
OP could get a higher wattage PSU if he plans to upgrade to a dedicated GPU.
Tbh I would save up and get at least the R5 with integrated graphics.
Personally I would avoid those DRAM-less SSDs. In many cases models with DRAM are only a bit more expensive.

True. Judging by his budget, I don't expect him to drop in a 3070 one day.

Getting the Ryzen 5 CPU will help if he decides to get a GPU when prices go down instead. I almost forgot that those 4th gen Ryzen with integrated graphics exist.
I suggest OP should watch the video you linked.

Please don't recommend Win XP for a web browsing machine. Using XP is just not safe anymore. (unless you don't connect it to the internet)

That's cool! I would really like to get a 2.5TT one but Germany only got the 3.0 and 3.0T which is worst even though it hase more displacement. And doing an engine swap with all the rules about car modifications is just way too expensive.

Going with faster drives is no doubt the better experience but for storing data especially if you don't need to access it that often, HDDs are still fine and the way to go from a price to performance standpoint.

    Agreed.

RAID (except RAID 0) doesn't make that much sense for your daily rig. Having recent backups is way more important for various reasons. As for SMR - CMR: Just google the parts number of your drive and make sure that it's CMR. Avoid SMR.

You could try Lubuntu 32 Bit but I don't think it'll be a good experience. Also if it has an HDD chances are high that it'll be a 5400rpm one which is even slower due to its age.

You really cant do anything to make it perform better to be honest. You got a single core ancient mobile CPU, 2G ram and a abysmal iGPU.

GrayTech got a reaction from minibois in WD red / red plus / red pro?
There are two different ways a HDD can record data. SMR and CMR. SMR drives are usually cheaper but CMR is what you want if you consider RAID or running them in a NAS. WD has SMR as well as CMR "red" drives. Finding out which is is which can be done by lokking up the specific model name (e.g. WD60EFAX) on the internet. Make sure you get a CMR one.

Normal WD red are 5400rpm drives which are very slow. do yourself a favour and reinstall your programs onto the SSD. It will make a huge difference in how your setup feels. Otherwise for storing data, they are perfectly fine. For gaming I would recommend at least a 7200rpm HDD or a SSD.

WD red are very reliable drives, but they are rated for running 24/7 and being able to withstand vibrations from other HDDs around them.
Overall I would move the programs onto the SSD, get a fast drive only for games as well a seperated drive for data. (WD red CMR or a regular desktop hdd).

Having a reliable HDD or RAID aren't bad things but the only way to keep your data secure is to make regular backups. Either manually or with a backup software. And splitting your games and data drives can make it easier to back up your important data while games usually don't need to be backed up. (except maybe some save files).

On the other hand, 15K working hours for a HDD isn't that much. I already used drives with 60K hours (they were enterprise drives tho). But by retiring them from your main rig you already have your drives for backups.

If it works fine and are stable its not really necessary, but BIOS updates sometimes has some slight performance/stability tweaks as well.
