  1. Wouldn't that bottleneck the graphics card though? I was initially thinking maybe a newer Ryzen or something similar. P.S. I like your name
  2. To give some background info, I've primarily game on Xbox for the past few years. Most of my friends are on there but I would really like to not exactly switch over to PC but to also game on it. I was planning on a build a long time ago but never got to it. I have a EVGA RTX 2080 XC Ultra, two 1TB Samsung 970 Pro, and a Noctua NH U14S Cooler. Now here's where it gets complicated. I'm 18, not a lot of money and I'm not sure if I should finish it. If I sell all the parts I can get around $1000 I can potentially put into savings or something. I don't currently work either but I do have some money saved up I can use to pay for other parts if that's the path I'm taking. What do you guys think? I estimate at least $1000 more to complete the build, which is a lot of money. This would be a do it all PC for me. My current laptop is pretty high end one rocking a 7th Gen core i7, 16GB of RAM, and a 1050. Though it still struggles with the stuff I do on it, which explains my price estimation. I can pay for the rest but I just don't know if I should. I'm not dying to play on PC though it would be really nice. The extra horses a new PC would give me would definitely help me out. It's just a lot of money for me and I'm not sure if it's worth it. If we're just talking about dollar value, this will be a great deal for me given I got these parts for free. But a $500k Bugatti Chiron is still $500k even if it's the deal of the century.
  3. I'm looking for a mic solution while keeping my own headphones for Xbox party chat. I've watched many mic reviews and tests of both but can't decide on one. Some videos the Yeti sounds awful compared to some videos with the Modmic. Gut feeling tells me the Yeti should be better. I can get both at around the same price so I really can't decide.
  4. Thank you for the suggestions. I'll definitely look into the forum you linked. I assume its similar to something like r/personalfinance on Reddit? Or does it have a broader range?
  5. The $3k was including tax. I should've clarified that, my apologies.
  6. I really do want a job, especially now when living with my parents. Though as someone dealing with social anxiety it's extremely difficult for me.
  7. I can choose between a sub $3000 PC or $2000 cash as a gift. I really don't know what to choose. I currently have a decent laptop but more power would definitely help. Gaming on it is especially bad since it's a work centric silhouette. I'm 17 and don't have a job, also never 'officially' worked. I have about $4000 saved in the bank. I would some times splurge for things but not thousands... I was thinking maybe this can help future endeavors like buying a car in the near future. How much does a PC of this caliber usually depreciate?.
  8. My laptop had the Killer 1535 and the performance was "okay." Things like wifi speed slowed to a crawl when using bluetooth or occasional dips/inconsistencies with connection (could be router though). I just swapped it out for the Intel 9260 and am wondering what tests I could run to see if there are any changes. There aren't any reviews I could find either so feel free to let me know how yours performs.
  9. I'm currently thinking of building my own little setup in my room. This means moving the xbox from the living room to my room. I had a problem with the xbox before where there would be huge latency in games and causes me to lag, the Ethernet cable swiftly solved that problem. (Would be great if anyone can tell me what the problem was) Given that I have to use the Ethernet cable I don't know what I can do. The router is downstairs in the living room and I won't and can't wire an Ethernet cable from there. I was thinking of getting another router/modem but am not sure if that would work. I've also looked at power line adapters but they don't connect by Ethernet? At least not to other devices I don't think so.
  10. Which one is better screen quality wise? I've read from tech review sites that the U317W panel is actually worse than the previous iteration, the U3415W. The curve is more pronounce on the U3417W and it also has a bettter design/IO. The user reviews generally say the U3147W is better but the fact that these review sites are saying the opposite is bugging me. Does anyone have experience with both of these monitor?
  11. Hello all, I'm looking to buy a ultrawide monitor, the extra real estate and the immersion is awesome. Productivity wise my laptop would have no problem running it but I'm not so sure when it comes to gaming. I'll be running it with a mobile GTX 1050 while playing gaming like Heartstone, CSGO, R6S, and OW. I know I won't be pushing out 100+ frames but am wondering if I'll be able to maintain 60+. Resolution of the monitor would be 3440x1440p, I know I won't be able to run it at that resolution and so I'm here to see what compromises I can make. If I play the game at 16:9 instead of 21:9 would that help? That'd be just regular 1440p right? If that doesn't cut it, would scaling down to 720p be a viable last resort? Related questions : Difference between 3440x1440 and 2,560 x 1,440 ? Do you call both of them 1440p or is there a different name for 3440x1440? Opinions on ultrawide monitor? If I proceed to buy one it'd be a huge purchase for me. I'm currently 17 and have been thinking of buying this and a $1k chair to "complete" my setup. If I don't go the route of buying an ultrawide I'll be saving a lot of money. Of course I can always cheap out on a monitor and buy a decent gaming PC instead... 12. What do you mean? The Note battery life is inferior to the S series?
  13. Should be ok. I primarily game on xbox anyway with PC gaming here and there.
  14. I currently have a Galaxy s7 edge. Great phone but its getting a bit hideous as time passes, definitely slower than it was new and battery life is abysmal. Now I'm thinking if I should get a Galaxy s9 plus or wait for the Note 9. I'm not in a rush to get a new phone so I'm willing to wait if it comes down to it. I do have a long family trip this August so having a new phone by then would be nice but I realized that the Note series are usually announced/released in August. What do you guys think? Would the wait be worth it? How much different is it anticipated to be?
  15. Don't really need a desktop when the laptop is enough. Thank you for helping my clear things up for others. As for the chair I'll definitely give eBay a go. You have any recommendations? I don't have to get an ultrawide just has to look good
  16. I know some of them are using ultrawides and would like to know what they are.
  17. Hello, I have around $700 and am wondering if I should spend that money on a monitor or a new chair. I don't currently have monitor and am using the laptop screen, this can frustrating at times. This is also means I'll be driving the monitor with my laptop since I don't have a desktop. I'll have to buy a keyboard but I some I can currently use as a placeholder. For the chair I actually bought a new one a few months ago at Staples, it's okay but can get uncomfortable after extended period use. Think it was around the $100, my parents were the ones paying so I didn't pick anything expensive. I'm now thinking of buying either a monitor or a better chair. I have my eyes laid on a few monitors most of which are curved ultrawides, think they're pretty cool. As for chairs I'm looking at the Herman Miller Aeron or Embody but am open to more suggestions. What do you guys think? At some point I'd like to get both to complete my "dream setup".
  18. I have already, couldn't find anything. Bios says the health of the battery is excellent.
  19. I've asked other owners and they said this doesn't happen to theirs. I've changed the battery now and it doesnt do the intermittent charging but it still has the problem when I initially plug in the charger.
  20. So this all started about a month ago. I remember getting the laptop and using it on ny bed while charging it at the same time. I then noticed the charging indicator light was blinking. I went to check the charging status and it charges and stops charging every few seconds. I immediately checked the charger, I unplugged it from the adapter, wall socket, and laptop. It didn't fixed it. I then proceed to restart my laptop and got the same results. I got very worried and started to look up my issue. There are many mixed answers and none of them seem to be the problem. I then contacted Dell and they insist it was a problem with the motherboard. They then sent a technician to come replace the RAM and motherboard (CPU, GPU). This didn't fix the problem and so I asked them to send over a new battery and a new charger. The new charger didn't fix the problem. I just swapped out the battery so I'm waiting to see it the problem is still here. It looks like it is, I'm saying this because when I plug in the charger it charges then stops charging, and charges again. The intermittent charging problem usually happens when the battery is at around 70% or higher. At lower percentage it justs charges then stops charging, and charges again. (Keep in mind this pattern happens pretty quickly) I've also tried resetting Windows 10, resetting BIOS (I've never messed with it in the first place), downgrading BIOS, and other things like draining the battery completely. I've also checked the battery (old one) health and Dell's power manager app and the BIOS says it's in excellent condition. Important note: One time when booting up my laptop the charging indiciator was blinking amber lights. I didn't know what it was but when talking to Dell and looking it up it means hardware has failed. The pattern of which the light blink at is what tells you what has failed. Unfortunately I cannot recall the pattern and it hasn't happen again. I've posted this problem multiple times on the Dell subreddit along with other tech forums. None of which has given me the solution or has found where the problem is originated. I really need the help. This is a $2000 laptop, I'm really debating if I should ever go with Dell again honestly. TL;DR Dell XPS 15 9560 charges intermittently. Swapped out a bunch of parts and problem still persists.
  21. I've asked this question but even till now I cannot get a definitive answer. My 9560 pauses charging periodically about every 5 seconds. This happens around 80%+ At around lower than that when plugging in the charger it would say "plugged in, not charging" but then immediately goes to charge. At 100% it just completely stops charging. This has never happened before which is worrying. I am currently on the most updated version of Windows and BIOS.
  22. So after days of emailing back and forth Dell says it might be a CPU or CMOS battery failure. They want to send out a on site technician to replace the motherboard and RAM. I just don't see how the RAM is even part of the problem. I'm just afriad that the replacement is going to make things worse. Edit: Now they want me to send in the laptop. Guess I have no choice.
