From the wiki description, and the video descriptions, it's just an alternative to the Aurora. Which is fantastic, all class of ships should have alternatives. The Mustang just has more firepower/less cargo room. I think it's actual purpose is the same. Exploration/starter craft.

From the looks of it, if you already own an Aurora this will just be more of a collector type ship. You'll likely eventually move onto a Hornet or 300 series or a crew-carrier.
Keep in mind this is just stuff I kind of jumbled together from Wiki sources and the Next Star Citizen episode. So take it all as speculation.

That's more or less what I'd like to ultimately end up with, but there's a lot of changes that have to go on CIG side for that to be able to come to fruition. 
 
As for the membership fee, We'll see how it goes, I'd imagine it to be a thing that's only around for a little while until we've got a stable platform to sit on, and maybe as a surplus amount of cash for war or such. I honestly see no issues with a small membership fee, like anything it's necessary to keep the thing running, i really don't plan on having it be crazy huge, just a little something that's pocket change to an individual, but a decent chunk of cash when all rounded up.
 
Also, on the notion of ranks, it'd be awesome if CIG let you have more than 6 ranks, once that comes to bare, I'm sure we can have as simply complicated as possible, perhaps merge your idea of ranks with the current idea, so have each of the current ranks, slightly modified to hold your supporter rank idea, within each sector (mining, military, ect)
 
I'd also like there to be an option for those to participate in custom ranks for their sector, being equivalent to other ranks, just a re badge to better suit the role they're in or something.

Don´t Forget Equipment and Ammo, also depending on the price tag on things that % could go down right? like 5%, because as you said 10%= 170k BUT! = if everyone did only 1 mission, and im pretty sure people will do more then just 1 mission a month. Let´s say 1 mission a day. then that 170k will be oh dear sweet jesus higher (like 30x170k0~=Profit). ofc depending on how much we in the end make and how much things cost. maybe we can skip the Membership fee because lets face it, the majority will hate it. like @Jaybird 
however i just notice you did say its a free choice and that's great, those that wont support wont be supported back as much as a Supporter, its fair and if we can choice how much % we want to donate that would be great, set a Min-Max%
I don't like separating people but if it does make it easier for you to keep an eye on things and keep things more organized you could put Supporters in there own rank:
Recruit: the new guys in the Org
Member: Proven to be Loyal, reliable and can be trusted [Non Supporter]
Supporter: Same as Member but he/she supports the Org Financially [supporter]
Veteran: next step from Member
Veteran Supporter: Next step from Supporter.
Above "ranks" were just an example.
Any rank after is high end stuff although i hope we can have Rank´s per "job" "cough" like for example the Pure Miners will have 2-4 ranks on there own. or Traders same there 2-4 ranks on there own

Veteran Miner
Captain of the Mining Fleet.
Mining Supervisor [Council member]

Yeah they are like the first run so give it time and they will have more, I should think the t-shirts are paying for more t-shirts and they went for the most popular thing.
