@StDragonMy point was that the construction industry treats its people like disposable labor. You can have a high demand one day and no demand next month. Nothing is guaranteed. You can't just say get this career over the other. The economy is so volatile and so are the jobs which depend on it.

If the current trend continues, I am just worried that there will be a dystopian future out there where skilled workers will have to bid their own work on a LinkedIn app. And suddenly everyone is a temp worker trading their labor for crumbs. Everything can become a race to the bottom.

The flood of wealthy foreign students apply for US colleges probably has more to do to distort the supply demand.

It makes me worry about the future. A lot of content will simply disappear out of neglect and lack of profitability. And the only way to access that content is through pirating. Because people who pirate care the most of the content and want to share it with the world. The publishers who have every right to distribute the content don't do so unless it's profitable.

I only realized this because I was watching Dawson's Creek on Netflix and I couldn't even finish the show before it got removed from the service.

In the age of more stringent piracy laws and restricted access through subscription services, a lot of content will just fade away and disappear. This has a lot of ramifications about the quality of the content and what sells and what doesn't. But that's a huge can worms. Anyhow, pirating is a means of benevolently archiving content. So I support pirating to the max. And I don't want 2, maybe 4 streaming services (like Spotify) dictate what I should consume.

My iPhone 7 gave up last month. Some unforgivable antennae manufacturing defect. I was fed up with its battery life so I bought the Motorola Moto G8 Power to replace it. 5000 mAh baby!

And then I see that the new iPhone SE is a real thing. Darn it!

kokakolia got a reaction from Pickles von Brine in land surveyor equipement
Well, I'm a land surveyor and this LIDAR technology is used in the total stations to do 3d maps or reflectorless measures. It's been around for more than a decade. So it's nothing new.

The issue with the iPad is the integration. You need to make it work with surveying software to produce meaningful data. And the tablet form factor doesn't help. You'd want a moving scope on a tripod, i.e. a total station. So you can setup on a known x, y, z coordinate and measure points with x, y, z coordinates through angles + distances. A free moving tablet in your hand just can't do that.

The only way a free moving tablet could be useful would be for mapping the inside of a building by stitching thousands of photos together. And tools like that are currently being used by surveyors. But it looks more like a camera ball on a wobbly stick. And I don't know how it really works. But using it is as easy as walking around flailing a stick. A tablet just isn't built for that task.

Basically, any modern total station used by land surveyors has "LIDAR" built in. You can also look into mapping cameras (photogrammetry). Further, tablets don't make good measuring tools. But they're used in land surveying to control the measuring equipment.

If this were 4 years ago I would have screamed at you in disbelief! Let me explain:

I bought into the KZ hype around the time the ZS5 was released. I tried several models including the ZS5, ED9, ATE, ED7, ZSE, ZSA and ES4.

    - Sorry, but the ZS5 and ED9 are flaming hot garbage with murder treble and boomy bass.
    - The ED7 is just fine with me but they're discontinued. IMHO, the best model KZ ever made. They don't sound like they were tuned by a deaf grandpa.
    - The ZSE is muddy trash.
    - The ATE is overhyped. Yeah, the bass is fun and punchy but it stops there. The mids are so recessed that you'll crank the volume just to hear the vocals, and then the sibilant highs will murder you with cymbals.
    - The ZSA is tuned just about right, even though it's another V shape tuning. But the sibilaansssse is so very present and annoying.
    - The ES4 is probably the sweet spot. They're similar to the ATE, but the highs are cleaned up and the mids actually exist! It's still far from neutral, but at least it won't make your ears bleed. They still sound like a pair of $50 earbuds (they sell for $10), so don't get your hopes up. KZ is so hyped that they could literally sell individual bricks in fancy packaging for $10 and people would call it a bargain! But the ES4 gets a thumbs up from me.

@Spork829I'm glad you like them! Your impressions are exactly what I expected from KZ:

    - A bit too much treble
    - Could use more mids
    - Bass is nice

Yep! You're using a KZ alright.

Update! They just got here, and so far impressions are good. Comfortable even with the stock ear tips, and the sound is pretty much expected. I'm using an EQ to flatten things out the way I like, but I will say at stock it's not an incredibly pronounced V shape. The mids are a little lacking but do exist, and the treble is overly plentiful but not harsh. Bass seems good, though I always have a hard time noticing the difference between tight vs loose/muddy bass as others can.

Most importantly I can sit at my computer without getting those killer headaches anymore, so definitely a win even if I eventually swap these out. Thanks for all your help!

I definitely agree with you here, though I've found that I sometimes dislike a V shape because of the absent mids more than too much treble.

Tagging @The Flying Sloth here as well: Well after a night of research I saw a lot of people saying that the KZ ZST Pros have the least pronounced V-shape of their lineup and are most comparable to the SE215s, so I went ahead and ordered a pair. They're so cheap it's not a big deal if I don't like them, plus this is more of an experiment to see if I can get into using in-ears all the time. Thanks for your help guys!

Duuude! You're still complaining about the specs? You get a lot for your money with this phone. 4gb of Ram and 64gb of storage is plenty for most people. And the Snapdragon 845 is still a beast. And you get an OLED screen too!

You could honestly fool people on the street into thinking that this phone is the latest 1000€ flagship from LG.

IMHO the only thing that sucks with this phone is the brand. LG kinda drops the ball when it comes to software. And that really brings the phone down.

I am so enthusiastic about this idea of leftover parts from older flagships at a bargain price. Phones aren't really getting better every year, only the prices seem to go up inexplicably.

Just think about it. The end user for this chromebook isn't a tech-savvy, terminal-hacking-troubleshooting machine. Why would they ever touch Linux with a 15 foot pole?

The Chromebook is just set up perfectly out of the box with all of the useful apps. There's minimal hassle. You don't need to solicit IT people to set your devices up for the students. I'm gonna leave it there. Call me a Linux non-believer. I tried it several times, only to get deeply frustrated with having to learn the terminal to do basic things.

Sweet baby Jesus, finally i found someone who thinks alike. (No homo) I'm literally in the exact position. Just about 2 years ago i had to sell my main PC. (4790k, gtx 1060 6gb, 16gb ddr3) I had it for couple of years, paid out of my ass.At one point i realised, i'm barely playing games anymore. Constant benchmarks, building videos, tuning, or just wasting time on bullshit. Not to mention problem i had with games i legitimately bought. Crashes, missing files, driver error. Holy smokes, i just want to play the fucking thing. So many distractions. In 7 years of having full pc hard-on, i finished about 13 games. Then, 2 years ago i bought ps4 and up untill today i finished about 21 games, full platinum.
Now i bought for me and my son a low end pc to play Crpgs, rts's etc and stuff is repeating again.

Switch Pro controller is pretty good. Fav is the XBone though, takes the 360 and tweaks it just the right amount to make it better, more comfortable to hold, better triggers and the D-Pad is so much better(I know the 360 kind fixed that with the controllers where you twisted the D-Pad to have the circle or a d pad but they weren't packed in and cost £50 to buy seperatly)
