-You have no choice but to add stuff to the room if you want to reduce echo. Either by putting stuff on the walls or adding furniture.
-An empty room will always feel empty, you can't make empty into cozy. You could try painting it, with motifs and all, maybe a large room scale drawing across all the walls. Carpet and what not.
-Obviously, if you can't accommodate guests because you don't have a sofa for them to sleep on at all... No one will stay over. (unless you have a sleeping bag... but even that... no way). Much less stay standing for hours with you for talking. You'll find yourself likely going back to your bedroom to sit on the bed most of the time.
-These youtubers clearly don't care about their posture and will likely regret it once they are past 35. Either get a standing desk or a regular desk with a proper chair.

Just drive around early on garbage day (or late the night before), sometimes you can find plenty of good furniture that people no longer need (wash them first before letting them in... avoid anything with soft materials like sofa, don't want bedbugs).

I didn't read the thread, but as someone with an interest in the stuff here is my 2 cents:

Don't do it for any reason other than muscular and skeletal health. If you're willing to hustle a little bit, it isn't difficult to get half decent furniture for cheap (ikea and used- I think my whole house's furniture minus mattresses is worth maybe $3k and I could go wayyyy cheaper, and you can do it over time). Sitting less has certainly improved my health, and I think that is a real merit. Other than that, i'd have furniture

Room treatment, Room treatment and again, Room treatment.

Have a look at Gik Acoustics website, they have some pretty good guides on room treatment, and have some calculators for placement.

Also try placing your speakers in different places, as this affects room modes.

Also, if you have floors that aren't carpet, a good rug always helps with acoustics

I'd just suggest to go slow and buy one piece of furniture at a time.
That way you get the experience of make do furniture and then the feel good experience of having something you really like when you find it.

I much prefer older stuff because it's often better made and it can look worlds better.
The old stuff I have I enjoy the most. To me the new stuff I am able to get is poor by comparison.
If I had money to spend on this kind of stuff.
I'd get more because why not feel good in your home if you can afford too.
I'd look for older people (like 70 or 80 years old) selling stuff because their more likely to have that really old quality furniture.
Maybe estate sales where they auction off everything in big old houses. I never did that but I bet there is great stuff at those.
Also you can have fun exploring antique furniture shops.
I don't know what it's like where you live.
Where I live much of the new furniture I see for the most part is cheap in build and look and very overpriced.
    🙂

I would say the chair is essential, the desk slightly less so.  I can sit and play games, eat, or use a laptop easily from a nice office chair.  The desk mainly supports my speakers and amp, and its wear I sit to use a desktop, or write.  But my back couldn't live/work without the chair.  My desk is two wooden sawhorses and and old flat piece of wood, just free stuff, the chair was $600.

I love sleeping on the floor, and can't stand most beds now.  You adjust to the lack of padding and I think its better for the back, and tissue.  I've been sleeping close to the ground for a long time, boxspring and mattress directly on the ground as I rolled alot in my sleep and I didn't want to fall far, which is no concern now.

The only problem, is the anxiety about bringing home someone and having to sexplain not having a bed.

Yeah! But the place doesn't come with a functional kitchen and that costs a lot of dough. I figured that If I bought everything new and quality it would cost me about 10k€ for the kitchen and 10k€ for the furniture. And that will be all of my savings, literally 🤷. Shipping fees will bite me in the butt no doubt 😂.

@greenhorn Leroy Merlin has these temporary walls you can put anywhere. They look nice.

    LG OLED55CX:

Interestingly enough I was able to Unbox and lift the TV onto my TV Stand without a problem, I saw how Linus handles expensive LG OLEDs so I knew it wouldn't be a problem to do it yourself since it's actually extremely sturdy and well built.

    Specs:
55", 4K (3840 x 2160 Pixels), HDR 10 certified, Dolby Vision, HLG, VRR so 120Hz Nvidia G-Sync capable, OLED with perfect blacks, 4x HDMI 2.1 48Gbs Bandwidth, LG webOS, Google Assistant, Alexa and Homekit ready.

That's a great price, as low as their discount passive bookshelf prices. Klipsch does this regularly, sometimes even for 1/3 of the original price (for subwoofers). Hope you like yours

Kind of sad to me in a way, I love my 6th gen iPod Nano. It's a good gym companion. That said, I am in the process of replacing it with something that has bluetooth.
I think if they gave the 6th gen a refresh, a little sleeker with some great options like BT and such, they could make it a very compelling companion for their gym oriented earbuds.

Except for the software and navigation experience, which Apple still dominates. Which shocks me. It's not that hard to make a good UI, and these companies have had literally decades.
Ehhh. It's the same old rule that's always been true. The jack of all trades is the master of none.
A proper digital camera can (and will, given the price point) give better images. Dedicated MP3 players will give better sound than most phones. A handheld game console with proper physical buttons is still a superior experience. Nothing will beat a good old fashion compass. It won't leave you in a pinch if the battery dies. Cell phone levels are iffy at best. Again, nothing beats a standard level. So while it's done a good job of getting rid of a lot, it's far from the best at doing any of them.

This Ukranian watchmaker's special kind-of-vintage Raketa Copernic.
The movement and hands are from a 80s Raketa Copernic, but the dial and case are new.
Either way it's beautiful and I had to have it.

I've noticed there's no watch thread, maybe I'll make one. My watch collection grew a lot during covid.

I don't tend to buy new shoes all that often (usually around once, maybe twice a year), so it was nice to get a new pair that I'm not gonna use for work.
