  1. Borrowed a PSU now its working ok. I guess paperclip test is not enough to diagnose a PSU
  2. Good evening. Im having a weird no post situation. Two weeks ago, my pc suddenly went to sleep (pc was on leds on, fans spining) but no image on screen. Couldn't wake it up from moving mouse or keyboard so i held power button for 6 seconds to turn it off. Then it wouldnt power on. No post, no beeps, no led indicator. There are two white leds always on: the PWR_LED on the mobo and the GPU power led. When I press power button, CPU leds (no fans) turn on for a split second and GPU fans start spinning also for a second. Then they turn off and nothing happens. If i press power button again nothing happens this time. If I unplug the cord and plug it back, then power button would again turn CPU leds and GPU fans only for a second. Things I tried - Dust cleanup - Paperclip test on PSU passed - Reseated CPU. no bent pins - Removed GPU, same. no post - Clear CMOS. same. no post - plug directly to wall bypassing UPS. no post Now here is the weird thing. I removed all ram except one. Pc boots normally. But if I turn it off, then exact same situation no post. I tried the same ram stick in another slot, no post I tried every other combination of 1,2,3 and 4 ram sticks in diferent slots. no post Turned PSU switch off for 30min. turned it back on with 1 random ram stick in random ram slot. PC boots normally. turned it off, then no post again. Took it a tech repair center. with all 4 ram slots populated. They plugged it on and it booted normally all 32gb recognised by windows. Turned it off and then no post. Took it back home. Plugged everything with all 4 ram slots populated. It turned on normally. I didn't turn it off for 2 weeks. And i've been stressing it out (rendering, animation, gaming) and everything have been working ok. Today I turned it off to test it out and now same no post. Tried many ram combinations but no luck so far. PC config: intel i7 8700k no OC, MB Asus Prime Z370-A, GPU Gtx 1060 6Gb, Samsung nvme 960 evo. RAM 32gb Ballistix (2x8gb-2400mhz and 2x8gb-3000mhz), PSU EVGA 600w, UPS, windows 10 latest version. It would seem like a defective motherboard. However it has been working fine for 4 years without issues. And the fact that it has been working fine for 2 weeks straight makes me think that its ok. Thanks for reading this far. I would appreciate any comments

  4. Started with a simple 500Gb Seagate Barracuda around 5 years ago. Then I purchased a Toshiba 1Tb external portable hard drive as a back up drive for my architectural proyects so I can switch between my pc and laptop when I had to go to the university (bad idea to have a portable drive as a back up drive) Lost it somewhere in the faculty. Recently I bought a 180gb samsung 840 as a boot drive and to install Architectural software because it's one of the cheapest and hoping to raid0 soon. Also I've been thinking NAS would be awesome since I accidentaly erased all my back up files from dropbox. Damn Internet cloud storage sync.
