- Mapping buildings (although slowly taking reflectorless shots via total station is more precise). You're just not gonna get mm precisions with LiDAR. Surveyors are anal about that stuff.
- 3D mapping huge areas by plane (photogrammetry). That's how you get huge scale topo maps. Oil companies use these a lot for prospecting and building pipelines.
- There's this acronym buzzword called "SLAM". Simultaneous Location and Mapping. And this is used for driverless cars and perhaps drones, forklifts and roombas.
I'm just your basic surveyor. I work for an excavation company and I hardly use any of that fancy technology. Just GPS.
The problem with LIDAR is that it's kind of an acronym buzzword which doesn't mean much. And it gets confused with 3D mapping and reflectorless. In the oil industry it implies photogrammetry (i.e. huge scale topography maps with about 5~10cm precisions).

It's used to map warehouses for forklift navigation. My bachelor's degree thesis involved extracting the position of shelves automatically from this type of scan.
So do industrial forklifts, believe me

I’m remembering a post on this site long ago regarding hardware requirements for surveying software and it might be that. There a many uses for 3d mapping though. The one I hear about most is making 3D models, so much smaller scale. I’ve also heard of it being used for building sites. It becomes a question possibly not of point count but of range. A car would need possibly fractional kilometers of range where a device made for making models would need fractional meters.

Both the replacement Xeons and the Memory arrived.
Seller did not include the Thermal paste as he was suppose to do... but oh well.

*Update*
Snag 1:
This has been resolved, the seller has accepted the return of the incorrect Xeons and I found another set of matched Xeons from a different seller; this time they are 10core @2.8Ghz [E5-2680 V2]. These should be delivered in about 1-2 weeks 5-7 days.
The seller of the server has also offered to partial refund me 1/6th of the price I paid for the mess-up ... sweet.
The story: apparently the seller had two versions of the server pulled from the data center, though I ordered the server for the E-26xx V3 the employee that boxed and shipped the server for the E5-26xx V2. These are the same series of Xeon but the Socket of the LGA layout changes from the V2 to V3. V1, V2 use the 2011 (R2) socket as the V3, V4 use the 2011-3 (R3) socket. Yeah I was confused at first as well, apparently this was when Intel decided to updated the LGA layout... instead of waiting for the next series to make the change. 🤷♂️ Oh well.
Snag 2:
Since I decided to keep the server I will be swapping out the sockets from the LS-26 with C13 sockets from some old PSU's I have on hand in the garage, the swap should be easy enough, I have solicited some assistance for this. The sockets don't matter to much as the power draw is close to the same and the socket makes no difference, the C-14 cord will be ample to cover the power draw any how as I wont be over loading the requirements.

Price and nostogia mostly, always wanted a K40. Paid $100usd each.
Now I can play a joke on my brother... I told him I bought a Tesla, now just waiting to see if he gets the reference - car or gpu. Lol.
Absolutely gorgeous yes.
Not up and running yet, I am waiting on a few things But I have run into a snag:
Snag 1:
This server was listed to use E5-26xx V4 Xeons
After I opened the case, I discovered something wrong, the mobo has 2x LGA2011 (R2) Sockets, not 2x LGA2011-3 (R3) Sockets as I was led to believe. Now I have to find a matched pair of E5-26xx V2 Xeons as the V3 and V4 uses the newer socket. 🙄
I have already contacted the seller about rectifying this. I am hoping to come to an agreeable solution.
If not, I'll keep the server sell the Xeons and buy new ones.
Snag 2:
The PSU's use an older HP- LS-26 connector not C14 connectors. Proprietary to Hewlett Packard. /facepalm.
If anyone reading this not following along... LS-26 connectors are rare'ish to find cords for anymore, for obvious reasons [no longer made].
I have decided that if I keep the server (most likely will) I will pull the PSU's and swap the sockets. I have some old PSU's I can pull C14 sockets from.

Try again LOL..... Just because you don't like it doesn't mean everyone doesn't.
The guys hating over here are really childish and are part of the reason of why we can't joke anymore because ''they got offended''.
What's funnier they talk about a guy that "spreads hate" and try to force their opinion and spread hatred more...it's funny how people like those turn out to be more violent, offensive and even wish death on the people they call out.(not talking about the guys here only).Grow up,learn how to be thick skinned instead of a crybaby, otherwise you will not survive in this cruel world.
Edit:Also instead of just reading click bait news articles go to the source itself, pewdiepie videos, and see if the claims are true.Context changes everything.....
ANYWAY nice build guys and great pc, tho i worry about the head ejection part becoming a problem in the future (forgot what they are called)

To all the people crying about pewdiepie: Are you that brain-dead you'd site CNN links as viable sources? for one, the people at CNN can't write articles for shit, using stpid memes as sources as to why someone is racist, when I do not understand what makes it racist. If you want to waste time lobbying against a youtuber who is """RACIST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!""" then I have some advice for you: get a new fucking hobby instead of being crybabies about a person getting a custom PC. It's none of your business what LTT does for people.
