  1. So I've had my computer for a couple of months now, but when I built it, I just threw in a random 200 GB hard drive I scavenged from an old computer to save money. This worked out fine but now I need to upgrade that too a larger drive. Is there a way to easily migrate all the programs over to this new drive? It doesn't have the operating system on it (that's on a separate SSD), so can I just copy everything over, pull out the old drive, and give it the letter the old drive had? Any help is appreciated.
  2. I wasn't sure if the Ultra wide screen taking a few pixels on the side would make a difference.
  3. So I recently built a new computer and need a GPU for it. I'm wanting to get an ultra wide screen 1080p monitor. I was going to put in a 1070 and was wondering if there's any noticeable difference with a 1080 at this resolution, and if so, if it's worth the extra price.
  4. Actually, since I don't need the USB-C, I could go with this mobo http://pcpartpicker.com/product/Fn7CmG/gigabyte-motherboard-gaz170hd3 since I'll get more use out of the video outputs it offers than the USB-C
  5. Also just realized I don't need USB-C... But my sleep deprived brain told me otherwise
  6. Ok, looks good. Thanks. The only problem (and this is my bad for not including it early, but I was just going to install a random cheapo) is an optical drive is a must. I still have classes that rely on dvds. Nothing fancy, but something that can read and write. Since that case has no external bay (at least, I didn't see one) I just did this PCPartPicker part list: http://pcpartpicker.com/list/Lzdh3F Price breakdown by merchant: http://pcpartpicker.com/list/Lzdh3F/by_merchant/ CPU: Intel Core i7-6700K 4.0GHz Quad-Core Processor ($324.89 @ OutletPC) CPU Cooler: CRYORIG H7 49.0 CFM CPU Cooler ($34.99 @ Newegg) Motherboard: ASRock Z170A-X1/3.1 ATX LGA1151 Motherboard ($97.98 @ Newegg) Memory: Kingston HyperX Fury Black 8GB (1 x 8GB) DDR4-2133 Memory ($38.88 @ OutletPC) Storage: A-Data Premier SP550 120GB 2.5" Solid State Drive ($37.99 @ NCIX US) Case: Phanteks Enthoo Pro M ATX Mid Tower Case ($59.99 @ Newegg) Power Supply: Corsair CXM 450W 80+ Bronze Certified Semi-Modular ATX Power Supply ($60.84 @ OutletPC) Optical Drive: Asus DRW-24B1ST/BLK/B/AS DVD/CD Writer ($18.88 @ OutletPC) Operating System: Microsoft Windows 10 Pro OEM 64-bit ($126.83 @ OutletPC) Total: $801.27 ($818.28 pre-rebate) Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available Generated by PCPartPicker 2016-09-17 00:43 EDT-0400
  7. It goes over budget. But I could go with one 8gb stick and get the other later and I think this could work.
  8. Good point... this is why you don't forum at midnight... Common sense has not been deemed a necessity by my brain apparently. lol.
  9. I'd rather not get one without USB-C because my phone charges with it and the manufacture installed software that slows down the charging if I don't use an "official" cord (Probably need to switch brands) so the money I save would just go towards getting a compatible cord. Kind of a nitpicky thing and not too important but an issue none the less
  10. Some video editing is my main thing (which I talked to the IT guy at out school and he told the the software is very CPU intensive). Some 3D work which is probably better done on a GPU but I've found ways to run it decently on this CPU. At least for a couple of weeks until I get a decent GPU. Also going into computer engineering (not quite sure what exactly that will entail with a personal rig). Some other various video encoding. Other than that not much that will put a heavy enough workload on it to take into account. But that's why I decided to get a GPU later and use the extra for an i7.
  11. Well I've been saving for a long time to blow most of it on this so... lol
  12. What if I drew back on the PSU. after all, I don't really need a fully modular one. I only went with it because it came highly recommended. Then again there's a lot of risk with PSUs and I definitely don't know enough about them to make my own call
  13. Ok, thanks. And HDD was definitely planned, I forgot to mention it. although I think I might also get a larger SSD in the future but I'm not sure if the OEM windows will transfer over (I've heard all kinds of builders having trouble with Windows licensing)
