Stupid question, is the X79 platform able to be upgraded with a pci express card with USB type c or would there be BIOS issues? I would like to run the least amount of cables if possible to keep the wife happy. Thank you again for all the help.

I want the computer down stairs instead in a smaller room but be able to use the computer in the smaller room. Sorry for the confusion.

I have an old but faithful X79 system that creates a lot of heat. I would like to put the computer in the basement to get the heat out of the room. The problem is I do not know what dock or if any I should use. I am unsure if I can even add a thunderbolt add in card even if I wanted to. I am using a laptop with a fresh install of windows 10. I use Bitdefender 2018 and Dashlane but for some reason when those two are used together I get a warning saying Dashlane has stopped working. I have turn off the safe files module that used to be an anti ransom ware. I have also excluded the Dashlane files from scanning. I am wondering if anyone else is having this issue. Windows 10, sorry I forgot to mention that. I have been playing around bestcrypt currently but I haven't seen much reviews on it. I also came across veracrypt but haven't messed with it.

I am looking at encrypting my laptop. My laptop is a haswell based msi gs70 with uefi bios. I would like to encypted the raid storage and the 1tb mechanical hardrive. I would really like to have the ability to use two factor authication via a usb thumb drive. Does anyone have any advice?
