  1. I used GQ cables with my G2 because they were slim compared to my fat round ones. I hadn't looked it up before. Edit: Not all, just a few. I don't remember them all but I used CPU, Peripheral, SATA and PCIE. Although all of those parts are running fine except the motherboard (Asus Stric B450-I)
  2. Hey guys. A few days ago I killed a motherbaord by doing something dumb; I swapped psu cables. While checking all my parts, I was able to confirm that every part of my PC works except my motherboard. However, I wasn't able to check my PSU. After using the self tester provided by EVGA (props), the fan came on. I'm now wondering if there's a way to know if the thing is damaged inside in a way it might kill a new board etc. In fact, I don't even know if I need to worry about this. If swapping cables can damage the internals or swap it around that it might not push out the same voltage or something. Anyone out there who know anything about this/ have experience on this? (EVGA 650W G3)
  3. Hi, thanks for the input. Could you maybe elaborate on your choice of the Bazooka? I'm trying to see why something like the Auros M or Pro4 might not be fit. Thanks!
  4. funny you say that because the board I killed yesterday was the asus strix b450-i. I loved it but I messed up bad with some psu cables. lights up but no display or rebug led. I'll look into the TUF board but for now, the only two viable ones are still the MSI and Im still looking for more info on the vrms on them
  5. Hey guys. I accidentally smoked my asus b450-I and am in need of a new motherboard. After extensive research I found out that people have way too many different opinions on this topic. My budget is around 125 CAD and I will be buying from memory express or amazon prime. I don't have too much time on my hands. The parts I will be using with it are - Case that fits mATX or MiniITX (I'm fine with either really) Ryzen 5 2600 (planning on moderate OC so VRMs are important) GTX 1080 Nvme SSD 3 sata drives 2 sticks of corsair memory rated 3000Mhz fan hub so thats fine RGB strips and cooler (I have a splitter) My final conclusions have led me to these two - MSI B450 GAMING PLUS and MSI B450 BAZOOKA. Feel free to look at memory express to see my options closer
  6. Is there anything I can do to test it for now?
  7. You might be right about the board, it was a nice one too

  9. Wouldnt that mean nothing will turn on then? Also, i do have a spare psu but do the existing parts pose any threatsto it?
  10. Hey guys. Im having some trouble with the PC. Just changed the cables, cooler and made the mistake of swapping my EVGA G3 cables for some GQ ones. Long story short i noticed the PSU made a faint click and didnt even turn on so I swapped back the psu cables. One by one. Then I noticed that it did turn on, but i saw smoke coming out of one of the tiny modules. I swapped more cables and it happened one more time. Each time I would immediate kill the power to be safe. Now all the cables are back the way it should be and its running, lights and fans on everything on. But the display signal isnt out putting. The debug lights never even turned on and im noticing some of the lights on the back stopped working. Any help? Im happy to answer questions.
  11. Yeah, I thought so too but it seems like its just two types of cable headers; the rectangular and the roundish one. I considered just investing in a Hue+ or something of the like but I've heard too much crap about the CAM software, it only has 4 ports and I would be missing out on the asus hardware/software. I currently use aura only and preferably whatever I do, I minimize the number of programs I will need to reduce clutter. I did find these that I might use: Deepcool RGB 200PRO. Any thoughts?
  12. Hi guys, I put this post in peripherals because I didn't know where questions about RGB lighting would go (sorry). This is a post that hopefully helps me understand some of the details and doubts regarding RGB and to help make an educated decision down the line. I currently have my personal PC with an ASUS B450-I that has two RGB strip locations on it; "1 x Aura Addressable Strip Header(s) , 1 x Aura RGB Strip Header(s)". I had previously purchased a basic RGB kit from amazon that I use on one of the ports (with a splitter) on my motherboard that work. Its great and I love it but its single color only and doesn't utilize the motherboards capabilities fully I feel. Questions I have: -Should I be buying a "5050" strip to connect to my "add header"? If not what am I looking for? -Should I save the slot for some kind of accessory that might use it (like an AIO or something)? (Please recommend one if so) -Why do some of these kits sold by Corsair, NZXT etc have strips who's headers look completely different than the basic ones I use? (Even this Silverstone kit I found. Also will these work on my header?) -Will I need to spend upwards of 50CAD to get something that works with this header? I hope you guys have the patience to answer these questions for me. I'm only trying to learn more about something I love doing. Thanks!
  13. I found out that it indeed has two 2GB modules on Slots 1 and 3 with identical specs
  14. My little brother scored this ancient PC (10 years) for like 50 bucks and asked me to help clean it out and appraise it for him. When I saw it, I realized how old it really was. It's got a GTX 295 inside but somehow shows up as two in the software end, AMD Phenom X3 8750 Black Edition and a 1TB Hitachi 7200Rpm hard disk. Came with a 120Hz monitor that's 1680x1050 with GeForce 3D vision and logitech peripherals etc. I was wondering what this would run for in the market right now and more importantly, what the heck are these RAM modules? CPU Z says they both run si gle channel DDR2 4Gb at 1800Mhz. ps. If you were wondering, yeah he might sell it instead of renovating he's not really a gamer. He Lives in Calgary, AB. That is for checking out!
  15. I'm visiting my friend this weekend and really wanted to go check out a high refresh monitor. I myself have a 144hz panel but hes never actually seen one and even I am wondering what 240Hz might look like. He lives near Torono so I told him we should go check out some monitors but he says there aren't any places he knows where the display that sort of stuff. Any recommendations if you're from around there or Hamilton?
  16. yeah I considered this, but also I read that they will keep AM4 socket. And that most motherboards will be forward compatible with a bios update and can use pcie x4.0. Is there no truth to this?
  17. This is perfect. I need to make a correction though, I made 485 from the parts that I bought for 435. So itys a bit more worth the effort than I thought. I just had the conversion wrong lol. This is excellent still, thank you!
  18. well, II'm not at a loss. I made 20 bucks and got 3 months use out of it. And most importantly, I now have the opportunity to buy a better CPU and not have a spare lying around. This is the best possible outcome even if I just buy the same parts again cus I get brand new parts and make 20 bucks so really, what I want is to spend a little more out of my pocket and get an upgrade. Do you have any recommendations?
  19. [REPOST] I currently live abroad and will be visiting Canada soon. My current PC could use an upgrade and I managed to sell my Ryzen2600 and Asus B450-I. I got some 450CAD out of it. The rest of my PC is a Gtx1080, Corsair 2x8Gb CL15.3000Mhz and have 650W of EVGA power. My monitor is a 1440p 144Hz panel. I'm looking for a good combo that could get me better performance in gaming. Perhaps a good Intel combo can get me some frames as well as utilize my RAM more with XMP. Any and all suggestions are welcome. Thanks

  21. Do you know anything about Ram being happier at even timings rather than odd? I was told even though my kit is advertised at 15, it defaults to 16 because it more stable
  22. Here's the thing, AMD saves you a lot of money compared to Intel, and it lets you work at it to get more performance (if you choose). Its not a bad thing to want more performance for your money right? People can either do this or opt for Intel and sit tight and be satisfied from the get go. That's generally the case with them and its fine if that's you. They're both very valid options especially since AMD's Ryzen. There are tangible and substancial performance increases when you overclock your ram on a ryzen cpu. More importantly there are people out there who enjoy doing these things like OC'ing ram to get performance because its not entirely about the performance but its also about the personal experience of having done such things, they can bring a great sense of achievement and satisfaction when you succeed. I hope you got a bit more perspective out of this. You should also look up some charts on performance differences of ram speed on a Ryzen chip to see it for yoruself.
  23. Hey this sounds good. I'll use memtest at home and see how it goes. I havent actually done anything to the CAS timings or Voltage because I'm too inexperienced. One of the biggest concerns I had was data accuracy, whether overclocking can affect that or not. Sounds like its not out of the possibilities yeah? So I wouldn't push it too hard. I also noticed that I was setting up a computer for my office and I got them an 8700k and a 3000Mhz kit. I then found out the cpu only supports upto 2666Mhz. So I'm swapping and now I'll have a stock 3000Mhz kit which I'll push to 3600-ish and see. Definitely an improvement. Could anyone recommend me any good article/video/website where they explain ram OC in depth? I've only gotten confused by the numerous videos I've looked up where they talk abotu unnecessary things like which die its using and something about BCLK or something and other stuff like that. Or they would be irrelevant to me as an AMD user.
  24. I built my PC in late December just past, I have a Ryzen 2600 at 3.8 stable. I was wondering if my ram; (Ripjaws 4 2x8gb CL15 @2400Mhz) being overclocked to 3000Mhz with CL16 is a stable setup or not. I understand there are silicon lotteries with these things, after testing I found no hiccups (yet). I also understand that Ryzen is a ram-speed-hungry cpu so I do have a belief that this is needed. What I would like to ask you is to flag anything you might see here because this is my very first time overclocking RAM ever. I also am wondering what issues I should really be looking out for here because a lot of websites and guides can try and scare you with the "Cons of Overclocking" and all that bs. I'm gonna assume that because of the massive heatsinks on these things and ram generally not heating upto their rated tdp, I could actually have this headroom. I can post a cpuZ/hwmonitor screenshot or something from home after work so if that can help you guys analyze it better that'd be great. Thank you for taking time.
  25. I got it working on Windows with a free codec app from their store. So its possible on the current config. Its also not a locked file or anything. to admit, I;m just testing it so I downloaded it off of a torrent. Sorry I know, I know
