Hey So I was thinking about upgrading my cpu and mobo. Currently - MSI B450-M Gaming Plus + Ryzen 5 2600 Thing is, I don't think I need the upgrade to Zen 2 as of now, and all of Intels products carry a huge premium (mobo, cooler). Rest of the Specs - 16Gb 2933Mhz C15 Ram and GTX 1080 2100Mhz Ryzen 3000 is better than my current chip but were talking about cpu performance increases which only give ~20% frames increase max on avg. For that, its not worth the price right? My idea now is to wait to see what Intel comes up with in response next year and get that. I can hope that they will be cheaper because of the competition and faster than AMD as we already see right? What are your thoughts on this? Will Intel's next lineup be the right choice? Will their "intel premium" be reduced because of the competition? Can we hope for AMD to beat them in gaming performance or will Intel never be dethroned? Could use your opinions and thoughts on this to further my understanding. Thank you!

have you checked hard disk activity? and CPU utilization? I know its a bit limited in Win7 so try HWMonitor and see which one is hitting 100%

Design choice, I quite like it. More character than a full black look (I understand people prefer this sometime too ). Its called a two-tone, very common, basic and popular way to give something a bit of added aethetic appeal. - eg:

A few things I have tried when my rig underperforms - -Setting power saving mode to ultra performance (even in a desktop) -Going into Control Panel of Nvidia to make sure its using the GPU and not the cpu's grpahics. -Checking overclocks and drivers -Using RivaTuner (or any other monitoring software) to see utilization and clocks to further see what is throttling/under performing Hope this helps. You might also check the minecraft forums to see if there is something preventing your PC from performing higher. As far as I can say, don't blame the card, it shouldn't be "underwhelming" Edit: one more thing, the minecraft video settings have a setting for fps limit which I reduced without reading it back when I first started playing. Maybe check that too

you can expect those card hitting the market soon. What I can recommend is that the orignal 2060 and 2070s will experience a clearance price drop because nvidia has stopped production on those. If you see a really good deal on that I would get one. Otherwise its only a matter of time for the supers to follow suit

But I chose the psu because its extremely user friendly, and will set him for life pretty much unless he starts upgrading with a heavy passion

glad to hear that this list is acceptable. The plan is to upgrade the core of the computer at the moment. the CPU, Mobo and RAM in a new case. The GPU comes after and the PSU with is at the current one is a 450W Bronze unit from a decade ago I think.The upgrades that would come after would include a 1080p 144hz monitor (currently 720p 120Hz monitor), a larger SSD and some lighting and stuff.

Purchased for 0.00 means he already has those items in his current 100$ bought used 10 year old computer. Edit: His current budget is 1000 CAD for the upgrade and bit more later for a new monitor and stuff

The screws for the wraith stealth require some even pressure, or else they don't make contact with the threads to go in. This is the only part I fear, after that its fine because it will simply lock itself when its done being tightened and wont let you spin it further. You make a very valid point. I think I have to agree with you wholeheartedly, I think just the fact that I don't see my brother often means I don't want to bring him any issues or reason to be sad. Just the overprotective older brother in me trying to be watchful I guess. Lets go with your approach. If he breaks something, I'll just buy him a replacement. It sounds much better to me if he learned what he was doing, for himself so that he could also feel empowered

I agree, the issue however is the screwing in of the stock cooler because you're essentially point a screw driver at the pcb and putting force. I myself have had to do this a number of times and the first few times, I had scratched up the pcb below

the 2400G is so that he has a backup gpu in case anything might happen to the dedicated. Also dont want to make it tricky for him with yet another component required being mandatory to boot. Might also stay with just that if its enough for his needs, it is an old low res monitor after all. The lowest of their coolers require you to remove the two brackets and install it directly onto the plate. Also I agree about EVO, they may have been champions in budget and all time but you have to be crazy to think their installation method is easy or if they even hold up today aside their competitions. Perhaps youre right about going separate, quality will be better, the flat cables should be easy to handle for him and also his case, hes still looking for nice ones. He likes that thermaltake cube case but I'm pushing him to something really roomy so that he has space to work comfortably. Thanks for all the responses so far guys. Still looking though

Hey guys. My little brother is in Calgary, Canada, I work abroad in the mideast. He's been saving up for some time now and I was supposed to help him build his new PC. I wont be making it to him in time. We will try video calling so I will instruct him, I've done it once before with a friend but my brother isnt tech savvy or handy at all with electronics so it will be challenging. I think some really easy to use packaged parts are required. Like a Power supply with clearly labeled cables (maybe even one that comes with the case), the case may be premium enough have enough fans pre-installed and separates the screws for him with labels etc. (I will take recommendations for all of these if you guys have any). Most importantly, an AM4 CPU cooler that uses the default latch mechanic and preferably doesn't involve unscrewing the bracket from the motherboard and involves more points of difficulty/failure. All help is appreciated guys! Ty I'm recommending him an MSI B450-M Gaming motherboard with a 2400G, single slot graphics, his monitor is sub-1080p so it's not that intensive even. ~~~(Post was also put up on the AMD subreddit. Need help.)~~~ Edit: After some looking, I could only find AMD's own aftermarket wraith coolers to use the latch mechanism which I still think is the best route to go

do you have any suggestions? Its been a while since I went intel for anything so I have no idea what the B, H and Z board do now. It used to be, B for office/business/basic, H for the home PC and Z for the enthusiasts with unlocked chips. Now I'm not so sure

I feel overclocking is a bit out my his element (my friend), he put the 9900k there because its the fastest cpu but I also know hes burning money for that slight boost and will not manage his OC's best to make use of it fully. Edit: if he feels he's upto it then I guess it'll revert to the 9900k
