Tamesh16 reacted to Spotty in Apple prematurely ends IOS 14 updates and claims it never promised to support IOS 14 in the long term
I don't follow iOS updates so forgive my ignorance. Is there something wrong with iOS 15? Is there any reason why someone on iOS 14 who wants to continue receiving updates shouldn't just update to iOS 15 to continue receiving the latest security updates?

Tamesh16 reacted to AlTech in Apple prematurely ends IOS 14 updates and claims it never promised to support IOS 14 in the long term
Summary
Apple is no longer offering IOS 14 updates to IOS 14 devices and has decided to discontinue support for IOS 14 using the pretext that IOS 15 is now stable and that Apple didn't really mean IOS 14 would be supported for as long as they originally said.
Apple is now forcing users of IOS 14 to update to IOS 15 if they wish to get any further updates. The final IOS 14 update is IOS 14.8.2 . It is my understanding that this update is no longer available for download on IOS 14 devices.

My thoughts
To be honest this feels like an insanely scmy thing to do. My impression was that IOS 14 would get security updates until IOS 16's announcement. Only offering a temporary respite makes no sense and it feels like Apple changing its mind after the fact and using vague language to justify it.

Tamesh16 reacted to Spotty in Is trading a 5700xt for a 6700xt a legit thing that actually happens? Or is it just a scam?
I pinky promise to give you $1000 if you send me $800 first.
Why would anyone send you a 6700XT in exchange for a 5700XT? Going to need more information. Is this an official upgrade program offered by the manufacturer where you get a discount towards the new card if you trade in your old one (AFAIK no manufacturers are doing that at this moment)? Or is this just someone promising to give you something if you give them your graphics card?

Tamesh16 reacted to TrigrH in [UPDATED] (Some B660 Confirmed) Intel Alder Lake Non-K Overlocking Enabled on certain motherboards
UPDATE:
ASUS ROG Strix B660-G and B660-F are confirmed, they have a slightly different way of doing it though.
Summary
Well known overlocker der8auer has discovered full range BCLK overlocking in ROG MAXIMUS Z690 motherboards:
This feature is only visible if a K CPU is NOT installed:
In Alder lake adjusting the BCLK only changes three things:
CPU Freq - Multiplier adjustable
Cache Freq - Multiplier adjustable
Memory Freq - Strap adjustable
This means that unlike with skylake there are no known downsides to a BCLK OC since PCIe still runs at 100.

My thoughts
I give Asrock about 14 seconds till they enable this and about 20 seconds for stupid intel to block it in the next microcode update.

I'm not sure that follows... microsoft seems to have mostly given up on keeping games exclusive to the xbox platform.

Tamesh16 reacted to BlueBlankTank in I think I found the solution to the HP underperformance.
When Linus was looking through the boot up config menu, something just seemed off to me. I felt like there was way to little options like Linus said but I didn’t think that HP did that on purpose. I was doing some research and eventually it lead me to omen gaming hub which is not a boot up config but something that you use after you boot it up. It comes standard with all omens and Linus accidentally nuked it when he uninstalled everything else. The information on what this software can do is under here.
https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/ish_3912817-3737596-16
and the download for the gaming hub is
https://www.omen.com/us/en/omen-gaming-hub.html
If I understand the website on what this hub can do it could fix these issue’s, as long as the download page is for windows 11.

Tamesh16 reacted to Kilrah in LTT TikTok on Youtube
Youtube currently very disproportionately rewards shorts, plus they tend to get shown to lots of people outside your usual viewer base so they're kind of essential to use to attract new viewers at this point.
A small creator I follow who hadn't done shorts yet made some a couple of weeks ago and ironically stopped straight away because they blew up so much that it attracted loads of toxic people to the channel.
Number of views on shorts say the opposite, "nobody" likes them, but then they get more views than a legit video...

Tamesh16 reacted to Absydeus in temporarly replacing a power supply with a smaller one
I would not recommend doing this.
Try a power calculator to get a rough estimate. I'd suggest 100W as a safety net so you want to be 100W above it's calculations.

Tamesh16 reacted to ImperialKnightErrant in Razer reneges on its claim the Zephyr mask uses 'N95-grade' filters
Summary
Razer has quietly pulled mentions of "N95 grade" protection from the web page for its Zephyr face mask following online criticism.
Quotes
My thoughts
Seems like Razer played with words "N95 Grade" is not the same as "N95 certified", so it's a similar situation like Oneplus not getting IP certification while still making their phones waterproof. Except Razer used N95 in their marketing.

Tamesh16 reacted to Lightwreather in It was a matter of time - Tesla EVs Used to Mine for Crypto
Summary
When most people think of Tesla, they think of its bombastic and eccentric CEO Elon Musk and mid-range to high-end electric vehicles that can travel 270 to 400+ miles per charge. However, several people are leveraging the large lithium-ion battery packs inside their cars to mine for cryptocurrency, according to a new report from CNBC.
Quotes
Case 1
Case 2
My thoughts
Well, it was a matter of time until someone did this. In the quotes, 2 methods of mining on a tesla are reported on. But before you go ahead and try this (if you want to), a couple concerns I have, chief among them, there's the battery itself. Batteries, over the course of their lifetimes, eventually lose their capacity to hold a charge and thus, my first concern, Cryptomining is very likely going to increase the wear and tear of these batteries and thus drastically shorten their lifespan. Then, there's the ROI, Teslas are pretty expensive (From my POV, a non-car enthusist who know nothing about their pricing). But apparently there are people who've done it as a Proof-of-concept and believe it to not be worth it. But we all know there are people who'll do this anyway. Anyways, have fun with this one, and please avoid a flamewar (for the mods' sake)

Tamesh16 reacted to Bseagull in Microsoft Releases Surface Laptop SE Repair Video - Isn't Competition Great?
Summary
Microsoft has published a video showing how to disassemble and replace components such as the keyboard, WiFi module, battery, and screen on their Surface Laptop SE. The host noted that he didn't even have to change screwdriver bits to take the whole laptop apart.
Quotes (From the Video Description)
My thoughts
This seems to be a clear response to increasing competition in the trend to make devices more repairable. Lots of nice little details, like the fact that the battery has built in mounting hardware with no adhesives. It looks to me to be modeled off Steam's Steam Deck teardown video, though notably it seems that Microsoft almost encourages opening the laptop up and replacing parts. It'll be interesting to see how Apple responds to this, as well as if Microsoft is able to scale this reparability and openness to other devices, such as their infamously unrepairable Surface Laptop Studio (or rather, other devices like it in the future).
Also worth noting that they're using standard iFixit tools - further signs of their developing partnership.

Not my only PC. I have a work laptop as well! For entertainment and work of course.
I feel like 1070 prices will drop heavily soon and this might be a perfect time to sell it.
