  1. Okay that makes sense. I think I will look into using clonezilla to get close to what i wanted to do originally.
  2. What do you mean by the destination drive has to be equal or bigger than the primary original? Does that mean if the boot os drive is 1.2TB, then i cant boot off of it and load it on a drive that is 512gb?
  3. Yes, well that was there the Akitio Thunder3 came in, because it would be fast and work with both devices. as well as i could use it to sync files across the computers. But here's another question is it possible to boot off of an external drive then migrate the operating system to the local machine to run normally.
  4. Actually no, you can have windows activated to your Microsoft account which would get around the activation problem.
  5. I don't have a desktop but I also don't really want one. I am more of a laptop guy and will be moving around to several locations with the laptop and VR. So a Desktop isn't really in my best interest.
  6. Razer blade for gaming and VR. Then the Dell XPS 2 in 1 for on the go web browsing and content consumption. Basically just the best combination of each computers best features.
  7. I want the 2 computer because it would improve battery life when I'm out not gaming and just doing casual work. And the Dell XPS 2 in 1 is much lighter and better for content consumption on the go.
  8. Hello, (Sorry if this is the wrong category but it seams to be the most appropriate place) So I am planning on getting a job soon and as part of this I'm going to be spending my first couple months upgrading my technology. I will be purchasing a Razer Blade, HTC Vive, possibly a Dell XPS 13 2 in 1, and some other not so important tech. There is just one problem with what I want, I hate having more than one place that my files are and having 2 computer will not only do that but all be organized differently. So I was thinking of a solution and I came up with what if i had the 2 computers wiped with no operating system and had some sort of external storage solution (I'm considering the Akitio Thunder3 PCi-E SSD 1.2TB) and had the OS or an image of it stored on the drive and which every computer I wanted to use that day or at that time, i just boot up the computer off of the system image or something like that. Then when I wanted to switch computer I only had to renew the external drive image and boot on to the other computer. The point of this post is to ask for advice on how you guys think I could do this. I would really like feed back on this, but there are some things I am not doing or considering; 1, I am going to do something like this. I will not run 2 computers with 2 different installs of windows. 2, Money isn't really an option if there is a software or a piece of hardware I need to make it work. As a reminder, the goal of the project is to have 2 computers that share an operating system, and can be taken anywhere without needing a connection or external drive connected all the time.
  9. Hello, (Sorry in advance if this is not in the right section or some other related subject) So I have a question. I realized that a lot of laptops now a days have a 4K screen. But sometimes the GPU can't support 4K, such as a 960m 2gb. Or can it? I honestly don't know. So I'm looking for answers; Why do Laptops have 4K screens if the gpu is not powerful enough? Or am I wrong and can almost any gpu run 4k? and is a 960m 2gb even enough for 4k screens.
  10. So Microsoft unveiled the Surface Studio. This computer is targeted at the creative market. And it costs 2300 (US) dollars for the base model, but 3000 roughly for a good one. So yesterday I went to the microsoft store to check it out. (I had no intention in purchasing the product). Now when I saw the specs after the unveiling, I questioned 2 things: 1, Why does it only come with Hybrid drives? Like I would think in a computer for professionals (video editors, and the like) they would want all SSD. 2, If it has a GTX 965m or 980m, which is laptop Hardware, does is also have a laptop CPU. So on my visit to the microsoft store I came to a couple conclusions. One this computer is a complete rip off for the money. I went into the system settings to look at specs...I found out that it has HQ model CPUs. The model they had out has a i5-5550HQ (If i remember correctly), and I can only assume that the i7 model would have a i7-6700HQ as well. But so basically this entire computer is a rip off. Because just saying that you could get that computer for a fraction of the cost of what Microsoft is pricing it at. Like for 1500 dollars to be more precise. So complete rip off, especially for the intended audience of the computer. What I think Microsoft should have done instead of this entire system. Was sell the Zero Gravity Hinge Design as a monitor for another computer. At like 700-800 dollars. That would be a much better idea than making an entire computer for that price. With the added benefit of being able to run what ever hardware people wanted.
  11. Thank you for you input. I think I will follow your advice and not go with a desktop. Because I will be moving around a lot. Do you think the Dell XPS (http://www.dell.com/en-us/shop/productdetails/xps-15-9550-laptop/fncwx1610h) I listed in my original post would be a good choice to spend the money on for basic gaming and power use?
  12. Okay, So honestly I need advice on what i should do when my current computer kills itself. To elaborate, my current computer is the Asus Zenbook UX305FA (fan less intel core M, 256gb ssd, 8gb ram, 1080p screen) is at Asus currently pending replacement because since it didn't have a fan it always had the problem of getting hot. Till one day it just stopped working because the CPU solder broke and it stopped working. Then they didn't fix it so i sent it back but now I have to wait 3 weeks to get my new one...ugh I'm really pissed about that. But so i know it is going to do it again because it is just the nature of a first generation processor that has no fan. But so I am looking in to having a computer plan when this dies considering my warranty is up and I need a computer for school. So if this computer dies I wont be out of computer for much time. I do have access to a macbook air which I am and will use for school when I don't have a computer of my own. But I do not know what I should do in the event that this happens. My previous plan was to just buy a Dell XPS 15 9550 (i7 6700hq, 8gb DDR4, gtx 960m, 256gb PCIe ssd, 1080p non-touch 15.6" screen). Which would cost 1400-1500 dollars (US) depending on the software. But then I had the idea of what if I spend 500 dollars on a laptop for browsing the internet and school word processing. then spend 1000 dollars on a custom desktop setup (I would need to buy a monitor and peripherals). Which I pitched to my parents and they thought that was a grate idea. Also I want to start to get into editing; video, photography, and sound engineering. But I was thinking about my life style and the way that I work on stuff and what I like. And I wanted to go back to the XPS as my option. But I am having a problem deciding what to go for. My life style is very up and about and portable. I move around a lot and don't like sitting still for too long because I get board out of my mind. So that's why I was thinking the XPS for the portability but powerful computer all in one. But I was thinking desktop and laptop combo for ultimate power at home then ultra portable light carry for the go. But I like that I can be portable no matter where I am with the XPS and all of my data in one machine on one drive. Honestly I don't know what to do really, so I would like a little bit...okay a lot of advice. Also if possible advice on Desktop parts if you have any, or just computer ideas related to my subject at all. I can NOT spend more than 1500 US dollars on anything I do. Thanks.
