  2. Ok recently i upgraded my rig. 9700K @ 5.0GHz Gigabyte Aorus Ultra 16GB Corsair Venenge Pro RGB RAM 3200Mhz Titan X Pascal +212Mhz WD Black 500GB NVME SSD 2 x 250GB SATA SSD in raid 0 (for steam) 2 x 4TB + 2 x 2TB WD Green HDD Corsair TX 650W All was fine (except no Lan drivers present after intalling windows 10). Then I installed CHROME. I immediately started experiencing periodic lockups i.e the whole computer becomes unresponsive for around 30 seconds to a minute, the mouse is frozen and ctrl+alt+del does nothing. Eventually it comes back, only to lockup a little while later. In addition to this, web pages in chrome are loading extreemly slowly if at all. They more often than not come back with... This site can’t be reached www.floatplane.com took too long to respond. I've tried the following with no sucess: 1. Reset chrome and reinstalled with no Adons 2. Reinstalled W10, installed drivers and clean installed chrome (no adons etc or login for sync) 3. Tripple checked all drivers are up to date. this was done via both gigabyte app centre and SDI_R1904 4. Tested other browsers, Firefox & IE are fine. Chrome, Canary and Opera are not, pointing to an underlying chromium issue. 5. Run the windows network diagnostic with this error "windows could not automatically detect this network's proxy settings", I've checked and LAN settings are set to automatic. 6. Installed the latest JAVA plugin 7. Reset TCP/IP 8. Monitored task manager while the issue presents. No spikes in CPU or memory detected 9. Tested with VPN on/off (PIA). No difference 10. Tested with window defender and firewall on/off 11. Manually set DNS to googles 12. Ensured W10 is up to date. 13. Disabled hardwear acceleration in chrome. I'm sure there are more but I can't remember. I'm writing this on firefox with chome open in the background. I currently have 5 tabs open and 21 chrome processes. The whole PC has locked up at least 4 times while typing, with the longest being about 4-5mins before it came back. There is nothing in the event log/reliability log and no spikes in task manager. I uninstall chrome, the issue goes away. I'm completely stuck. Please help! My work is heavily integreated with google, I can get by with firefox, but having chrome back and also understanding what the issue is would be amazing. Especially as I spent nearly £1000 on this system upgrade and I can't use my prefered browser......super lame.
  3. It needs socks. I would buy socks.....and wear them with my sandals
  4. Thanks, Yeah I did try this, but didn't have much luck working it out. the ASUS manual was pretty bare bones, but gigabytes was far more useful. I found this little table which indeed shows I can stick a PCIe drive in the M2A slot and still get all 6 SATA drives working. Thanks all.
  5. Thanks, Yeah I worked this out yesterday, I was originally looking at the 8600K hence the Z370, but then saw the 9600K is actually cheaper at the moment and didn't upgrade my board choice. I've landed on the Gigabyte - Z390 AORUS PRO WIFI ATX LGA1151 Motherboard now.
  6. Hi everyone. First time posting and I need some help specing my new rig I'm currently looking to upgrade my 3770k which has become somewhat of a bottleneck with my OG Titan XP. Particularly in games like Total War Warhammer II and other CPU intensive titles. I've been looking at: 9600K, Corsair Vengeance RGB PRO 16 GB 3200MHz (I like flashy lights ok, shh) Paired with either the: ASUS Strix z370 F ASRock Fatal1ty Z370 Gaming K6 GIGABYTE Aorus Gaming 5 ASRock Tiachi What I'm struggling with is which board suits me best. I've got 2xSATA SSDs and 4xHDDs which I need to keep running, I don't care about wifi, but do care about overclocking potential and the number of USB ports. I'm leaning towards the ASUS Strix z370 F, or the Tiachi, but prefer the aesthetics of the Strix. Those cogs on the ASRock just don't do it for me, but I could be swayed if the features are what I need. What I'm struggling with is the fact I kinda want to get an NVME SSD like the Samsung 970 EVO 250 GB. You would think this would be an easy decision, but my problem is I haven't been able to figure out if all my existing SATA drives will continue to work when a NVME SSD is installed. I've read about SATA ports 0 and 5/6 being disabled when the M.2 ports are populated, is this only when running them in SATA mode or does it happen in PCIe mode too? I should mention this is all in aid up upgrading my monitor from a Del IPS 60Hz 1920x1200, which clearly doesn't suit my GPU to hopefully either the Predator X35 or ASUS PG35VQ (if they EVER release, seriously it's beyond ridiculous now). If the reviews don't stack up it'll be the Alienware AW3418DW. Also FYI, it doesn't make much difference, but I currently custom water cool and will continue to do so. I'd appreciate any insights you guys have. Particularly on the storage front. I'd love to end up with my 6 SATA drives plus a nice nippy NVME drive as a boot drive all working together. Budget isn't too much of an issue, but I'm currently comfortable with between £700-800 for CPU, RAM, SSD and MB. Thanks
