Mufflen got a reaction from Br3tt96 in Reseal delidded CPU
First of all, thank you for the great answers. It is nice to get a lot of different opinions on the topic it helps me gain a better understanding of the concept of delidding. Maybe I should had clarified in the start, I have done a lot of research and I know what is was getting into (actually I have already bought the necessary equipment to do the delid). Just for the sake of it, I run my 8600k with a minor overclock and my case is the corsair 250d, the cooling solution is a custom build EKWB loop. I agree, 80-85 C is absolutely fine under gaming load and other stuff like that. I do not personally use stress test (used to but not anymore) because I don’t have the need anymore, but that is of cause a personal taste. I think I will “conduct a research” in that sense that I will take a lot of temperature measurements (not just CPU, the entire system and even my room) Then combined with my needs and the results I am getting, then I will determine whether to do it or not. For now, I will probably postpone my delid.

Once again thank @papajo, @ShrimpBrime, @Br3tt96 for the answers, it was very helpful.

Thank you for all the great advice, I decided to buy the 2070 SUPER (the GIGABYTE GeForce RTX 2070 SUPER WindForce OC - 8GB)

Why do you want to delid? How are your temps? Are you into overclocking?

I delidded a 4790k and a 4770k and never resealed the IHS because I never used metal thermal paste or anything similar, so it would actually start losing cooling potential over time.

I used the vice grip method for mine, removed all the excess black silicone around with a credit card, cleaned the old stuff, and since I didn't use a metal thermal grease I did not use nail polish to cover the small components. I didn't reseal and just made sure to hold the IHS in place when I clamped it down with the cpu bracket and it never moves.

Yeah don't delid for temperatures like that.

If you want to overclock more then go ahead and delid but your temperatures are fine.

Bottleneck calculators are bullshit. Please refrain from listening to those shady sites.

You are fine. the 8600K is adequate for a 2070S or 5700 XT. Later on, you can get a used 9900K or 8700K (avoid the 9700K - 8 non-HT cores are worse than 6 with HT)

You may want to invest in a Corsair TX550 - the G550M is mediocre.

With that CPU and GPU combination I think you’ll be just fine. It’ll be a night and day upgrade from that GTX 960. I was in the same boat just a few days ago because I am still on an i5 6600 K (oc’d to 4.5Ghz) and I wanted to upgrade my GTX 970 to a RTX 2070 or a 2060Super. Bottleneck calculators were telling me that I would get about a 40% bottleneck with those cards from my CPU and that got me worried that I would have to upgrade my CPU (or my mobo/cpu) if I wanted to go with those cards, anyways I decided to order the 2060Super and take a chance and I’m so glad I did because it literally doubled my FPS in every game I threw at it and that’s with much higher graphical settings than I used before. Am I missing out on 15 or 20fps from having a weaker CPU? Yes, but when you’re getting 100FPS on ultra settings you won’t miss the extra 20FPS you could be getting.

Oh and considering that your 8600K is a six core CPU, buddy you’re laughing!

Going off the build it seems right. Especially the fan orientation.

No info on on ambient temps, pump/fan speeds for the curve. Aside from dropping voltage or a delid, it’s where it should be.

I always had the right tools so for me it was easy, my personal recommendations are:

    - Get a proper tool, I used Der8auer Delid-Die-Mate 2
    - Use liquid metal, I used thermal grizzly conductonaut
    - Don't use too much, but also don't use too little. I've put pictures of my application below
    - Apply liquid metal on both the die and IHS underside
    - I personally don't bother with conformal coating
    - If you have a proper tool that comes with a pressure applicator, I would glue the IHS back on with UHU silicon.
    - Use normal thermal paste for the IHS to waterblock interface (i.e. liquid metal only for the die)

Is this an EK SE radiator? The temps sound about right to me since you have severe impedence of airflow on the second fan. I used to get 75 degrees on a 8700K on a 240 mm radiator using RealBench. The next obvious step to drop another 15 degrees or so would be to delid the CPU

i would upgrade the CPU first, since the GTX 1050ti is still a pretty good card. And you are going from a i3 to an i5

Simplest way to go is stay with one brand and running with it.  I chose corsair because they have great peripherals and the case has a fan RGB controller.  Add on the $40 or so and you can get a Corsair link to fully sync everything.  This would be RGB to the max

Back in the 9th grade 2 other buddies of mine and myself started our own school project. Our project was to dismantle a computer, make our own case, and assemble the computer inside the case we built ourselves. For the longest time a friend of mine had been saying that he knows pretty much everything about computers. Turns out he didn't know anything, but i'll get back to that.
I went to a very cheap-ass school, so there were always trouble with the infrastructure there, so as you probably guessed the computers at the school crashed all the time. Also note that all of the computers were "hooked up" for lack of a better term to ONE Server. This was a big school with around 200+ computers all hooked up to this one server. (Recipe for disaster). Since all of the computers were connected to the same server that would mean that if there was one single error on the server, then all of the 200+ computers at my school would simply not work.
These computers all went down the drain atleast twice a week making them completely and utter useless. And everytime the system went down the teachers always asked this friend of mine that thought he knew everything about computers. Let's call him Bob to make it easier to follow. Anyways, The teachers would always have Bob look at the computers, and tell them what was wrong. Ofcourse he didn't know what he was talking about, so he said the following: "Yeah, mhm, okay. Yes it seems that you have gotten a network system error inside the processor, it will be back up in an hour". Yes, that is ACTUALLY what he said, let that sink in for a moment. Oh, I totally forgot; The time he said that it was a "Network system error inside the processor". the teachers were trying to figure out why there was no sound from the speakers. Turns out the audiojack was not plugged in.
Anyways I got really off-track here. My friends and I were assembling the computer into the case that we had built ourselves. When suddenly Bob came by. My friends and I were kind of annoyed at Bob, so we asked him "which one of these components is the motherboard"? I bet anyone here on the forum would be able to point out which component in a computer was the motherboard, right? Bob pointed at the HDD, of course we all laughed, because this was proof that he knows nothing about computers, and was just spewing bullshit all the time. After we all calmed ourselves down, I said: "well surely you know this is the graphics card, right? (I pointed at the CPU). Bob said: "Yes ofcourse, how dumb do you think I am? That's when I almost broke out in tears laughing.

Since that event he stopped claiming he knew everything about computers and was an "IT-Guru". Anyways, my buddies and I delivered in our assignment, and got ourselves an A.
    Cheers! ;)

so this one time I was hanging out with my friend who is the manager at a tech shop by where I live and a girl comes in and buys a 2tb hard drive. we let her know that we install hard drives for $1 (the cost of the sata cable we use) and she says "just because I am a woman does not mean I cant work on computers" and leaves in a huff. two days later she comes back in saying that the HDD is not working so we take the computer in to look at it, we open it and the HDD is nowhere to be seen, so we ask her where it is. and it turns out that she scanned it and put the scanned image on her desktop to install the drive. and to top that off she threw away the drive she paid almost $200 for and she wanted us to give her a new one.
