Yeah Tipers please stop posting shit like that. It's gross and really uncalled for.
  5. I'm glad we aren't running that anymore. IP.Board looks so much better.
  6. I'd go with the i3 as you'll have the ability to upgrade to an i5 or i7 down the road. You also get all the modern features that skylake has, while with the xeon, you are stuck with stuff from 2010.

  11. What this article fails to take into account is the fact that the only Apple product line that uses the core m processors is the Retina Macbook, which was introduced around this time last year. The Air line use Y and U series chips, which are faster than an A9X. Given how well the Air sells (it's their best selling laptop), it would be an absolutely idiotic thing for them to do. This company is no stranger to doing idiotic things though. The only macbook line they would be getting rid of would be the retina macbook, given how many issues it has in regards to performance and I/O.

  17. Something like this already exists and it's called the Delid Die Mate from der8auer, a well known german overclocker. http://forum.hwbot.org/showthread.php?t=148622

  19. How hot a card is factors in the cooler, not just the chip. That's why people say that reference cards are hotter than non reference: because the load temps are higher. This still doesn't change the fact that putting a workstation fiji chip into a laptop is not a good idea. блять
  20. Have you see the load temps of the Nano? They're fucking high.
  21. The Nano has a TDP of 165w, so in order for it to be put into a laptop, you'd need to downclock it even further and make similar optimizations to what Nvidia have done in order to get it down to the 125w mark. By then, performance would probably drop below the 980. Thermals would also be a big issue to as the Nano is a hot card.
  22. The TDP for the 980m and laptop spec 980 is the same (125w) due to lower voltages and more efficient power delivery. The only time the TDP is higher is when the OEM overclocks the chip or increases the voltage (like in the WATERCOOLED laptop that Asus makes) Source: http://wccftech.com/nvidia-geforce-gtx-980-arrives-gaming-laptops-35-faster-gtx-980m-full-overclocking-support/
  23. You ignored the rest of what I said... Also, the speed you listed is only the spec Nvidia gives out. Most manufacturers downclock it and lower the core voltage to save battery life and produce less heat. Nvidia themselves said that the TDP of the laptop spec of the 980 is 125w and it has been listed as low as 100w. Also, the full desktop card has a TDP of 165w, not 175.
  24. The laptop 980s are underclocked and binned for efficiency which brings the TDP closer to 100w, which is still a lot for a laptop as far as heat output is concerned. Given that this is a server card designed EXCLUSIVELY for compute performance, and not for general use, you'd need to use a separate onboard GPU for video output to the laptop's monitor. The only reason someone would put this on a laptop would be if they wanted to do compute on the go, which is far to specific of a use case to justify putting in the R&D that would go into making this fit in a laptop. Would it be cool? Yes. Is it a good idea? No.
