That "clock" that Mohamed Ahmed made is a 1980's Digital Alarm Clock

I said a student brought it, not the teacher. I don't see why a punishment would be necessary though. It was just a bunch of students and teacher having some fun. -

Oh I don't know... Maybe the fact that the first person he showed was his Engineering teacher? Ahmed showed it to his engineering teacher first thing Monday but didn't get quite the reaction he'd hoped for. "He was like, 'That's really nice,' " Ahmed said. " 'I would advise you not to show any other teachers.' " http://www.tampabay.com/news/nation/arrested-for-taking-a-clock-to-school-ahmeds-sad-lesson-in-paranoia/2245845 -

The amount of idiocy and ignorance here is staggering. When I was in grade 7, which would be about 2007 and 13/14 years old, a student in our class brought an actual Airsoft gun to class like the one pictured below and our teacher actually fired off some pellets right in the classroom and some of the students fired it on their legs because they wanted to know how painful it was. It was no big deal and everyone had a good laugh about it. Although I live in a small city in Canada and not in the United States of Overreaction. -
Depends on the source content you are viewing. All satellite/cable TV, etc. is 720p no matter what. That's what they broadcast in (at least in North America), and they also use pretty abysmal bit rates. But I can tell a huge difference between 720p cable TV and a 1080p Blu-Ray on the same TV at the same viewing distance (I have a 50" LG 1080p LCD TV and viewing from about 10 feet away.) But yeah, bit rates are a huge part of the equation as well that many people forget.

Another interesting "bug" in Windows, you cannot name a folder or file as "con". But this has been in Windows for a long time, at least since XP maybe longer. Although its not really a bug since MS has done that intentionally.

Windows 10 is grabbing data from my pc when turned off?

It is common knowledge that people lie on the internet. -
My laptop is 13" 1080p and I think it looks phenomenal. I'd take better battery life over barely distinguishable pixel sharpness any day. More battery life is actually meaningful and serves a practical purpose.
-
Ripoff HDMI cables are not comparable to Apple products. Even as a fan of Microsoft and the Surface I can still say that. Apple actually has something meaningful to offer with their products and has an exclusive user experience. Now, I do think the iPad Pro in particular is a shameless copy/response to the Surface Pro 3 but most of their products are fine. If we pretend the SP3 doesn't exist then the iPad Pro looks good but when you bring the SP3 into the picture it makes the iPad Pro look atrocious by comparison.

Why Microsoft doesnt care that Apple just copied Surface.

People don't buy a 2.4 pound 0.55" thick computer because of price to performance ratios, they buy it because its 2.4 pounds and 0.55" thick. Of course you can custom build a desktop that is 25 pounds heavier and outperforms it on every metric but you're not going to take that desktop to an office meeting are you? Or to coffee shop? Or with you on a weekend trip? Miniaturization cost money. -
MS Edge can watch Apple Event, but Firefox and Chrome can't?

Anybody who knows anything about cameras or photography knows that more megapixels doesn't make a better picture. It can allow more detail but there are many many factors that go into a picture's quality. For example there is, resolution physical sensor size the actual lens glass (how the glass of the lens is manufactured affects quality) aperture ISO shutter speed/exposure time focal length physical lighting conditions (natural light, artificial light, day time/night time, etc) the post-processing every camera does automatically when it takes a picture Have you ever noticed how MKBHD seems to have the absolute best visual quality videos even though many other YouTuber's are doing 4K but don't look as good? Because MKBHD has some pretty insane equipment, like a $50,000 RED camera.- 17 replies

Linus has publicly stated before that he doesn't believe cyber bullying is actually a thing. He shared a picture on Twitter a few years ago that showed an Ethernet cable unplugged from a router, with a caption along the lines that if you "can't handle the internet" to unplug yourself from it. There was quite an uproar about it on the forums.
-
I don't know if its funny or sad that Linus disabled comments on the YouTube video.

I said there's no money to made by Microsoft and Google specifically by policing piracy, not that there is no money to be made in policing piracy. Learn to fucking read.

Exactly, I agree. Just as an example, some torrent sites have banned Windows 10 users due to "privacy concerns" except Microsoft has no reason to really care about policing piracy, there is no money to be made by them doing that, just like Google doesn't want to be the internet police either. In fact, it only costs them money to engage in doing that (both Microsoft and Google). Most pirates should be more worried about a company like Mark Monitor. They directly work for IP rights holders and here's some of Mark Monitor's own statements on their Anti-Piracy efforts, "Efficiently detects piracy across the Internet by simultaneously monitoring millions of P2P users across all major networks, live and video streaming sites, auction sites, blogs, exchanges, websites and online forums" "Capture extensive evidence on infringers for potential future use in legal cases." "Send automated DMCA takedown notices to ISPs hosting infringing sites." "Deliver comprehensive online and real-time reports detailing ongoing piracy activity and results of enforcement efforts." https://www.markmonitor.com/services/antipiracy.php And no amount of FOSS or "uninstalling" or tweaks to your OS can stop Mark Monitor.

Can you post a screenshot to show what you mean more clearly?

I have been running Windows 10 on Dell XPS 13 laptop for about a month and I have not had any issues with anything. There may be bugs, but if there is they are minor enough that I don't notice. Issues may come if you use uncommon hardware that needs very specific drivers, or extremely uncommon software.
-
Most people who run Linux in the first place are very passionate about FOSS so I wouldn't expect them to go to the other offering no matter how good it is or isn't.
-
There is OS X and Linux so its not impossible to get off Microsoft software. But the main thing people seem to be missing is that being secretive in itself sets off alarms and draws attention. As they say, the best place to hide is in plain sight.
