I read the patch notes and if there's nothing I need I stay behind. I let you be the beta testers.
A long time ago during the 600 series nvidia released a driver that reportedly caused damage to cards and artifacting.

any specs cant be compared because w/e on the box is made up so... 🤷‍♂️ good old 69 cfm... 4.20 h20...
still waiting for gn to do his testing...

140mm is comparable to 120mm because even if it has less sp it has more surface area to make up the difference.

coolers and how well they do at cooling depnds on what cpu its cooling and were the hot spots are located. a cooler center over the hot spot is best but if the hot spot in not center on the cpu then what do you do... 🤷‍♂️

    It's not BS,
    ***BUT***
You need to verify that they are measuring using the same parameters. There is no standardization of testing on PC fans which is why the numbers on the box are rather meaningless on their own.

So high end 140mm tower coolers versus 120mm tower coolers, it’s kinda the land of diminishing returns.
$40 for a peerless assassin dual 120mm tower, and it’s like 90% as good as a dual 140mm nhd15 or drp4, both of which cost more than twice and sometimes three times as much
Well, it’s otherwise absolutely true, except there is some hardware in the mainstream which you can’t cool with a peerless assassin. It’s not wanting something better than required, it’s that you require something better.
They could make a cheap dual 140mm tower, and the overall cost of production would likely keep it around the $60 mark if the metric of existing coolers is anything to go by. But then it’s competing with smaller but higher end coolers, which offer a lot better options than you could get away with using a cheap cooler in terms of acoustics and aesthetics let alone thermals.

What I’m trying to say is that I wouldn’t worry too much about the value aspects of different sizes of coolers and fans, you need to get the cooler that is suitable for your system and hardware. Anything more is for frivolous, although perfectly valid, choices related to acoustics and aesthetics.
You wouldn’t really weigh up 120mm fans and coolers against 140mm fans and coolers, they’re different products for different applications. It’s not just a ratio of “more cooler per dollar”.

Id wager that the SP could be almost double between the two fans.

The corsair one has a much higher RPM and wider fan blades to boot, also the angle of them forces air harder not faster, hence the lower CFM but higher SP than the TR one

LOST TALE reacted to OhioYJ in What's a good forum for soldering repairs and mouse repairs?
So if I read the solder pad / PCB pad got ripped off? There are ways to repair solder pads. However I know on my mouse those side buttons were on a separate board. When I needed some external plastic pieces I was able to get a parts mouse really cheap on eBay. Have you thought about going this route to get a donor board?

Otherwise, most methods I seen to repair damaged pads involve conductive epoxy and replacing the pad. Normally I do something similar to what you described (if I read it correctly), but I believe for something that gets used regularly like a button, replacing the pad may work better long term.

"Mounting: Sleeve fans are best mounted in a vertical position due to their lubricant system. Sleeve fans can be mounted in any axial orientation, of course, but will 'wear out' more rapidly when mounted horizontally."

Is vertical when he fan is moving air horizontally?

I've manhandled dozens of LCD panels, from 15" computer monitors to 70+ TVs. They can take a surprising amount of abuse, but they can also crack very easily from a sharp impact. (And of course once they break, there's no fixing them.)

So long as the force is spread out a bit, it should be okay. Try to handle it by the frame and stand as much as possible, and don't be careless.

LOST TALE reacted to Tanaz in The most frustrating RDNA2 bug that still hasn't been (fully) fixed
I don't even know what the goal of this post is, perhaps just a rant on my part. So there's been this recurring issue that many people with RDNA2 GPUs have had since release and it's still not fixed that's getting on my nerves and I'm at the point of buying an Nvidia GPU out of frustration rather than the need to upgrade.

First let me explain the issue - whenever you have a setup with multiple high refreshrate monitors the system will randomly hang at a black/grey screen and reboot (or in some cases stay frozen). It's a driver timeout issue and it always happens when there's video playing either in the background or in the foreground. The thing is this bug is tightly connected with another bug which is the fact that 4K videoplayback in a browser when multiple monitors are connected is stuttery and also slows down the entire browser. This issue is actually not even OS specific, it happens even on Linux.

When I got my 6950 XT last year the crashing was so common that I almost RMAd the card - it used to happen once per day. Then after numerous driver updates it actually became less frequent. Now it's at the point  where it still happens but it's like once every week to two weeks.

So both the playback lagginess and driver hang issues have something to do with dx11 being used to playback video inside of a browser. It doesn't necessairily have to be a YouTube video, or a high-def video to cause the crash, I've had crashes occur when playing a twitter video in the background. Its basically encoding + 3D workload = crash, but not every time which is the frustrating part.

I don't know how to reproduce this issue reliably and that is infuriating. All I know is AMD acknowledged the frame dropping video playback  issue back in 22.9.1 (see last point of known issues):

And they later claimed to have fixed it but it's not fully fixed and it's OS agnostic. The only way to avoid the 1440p/4k stuttering is to disable DX11 playback and use DX9 or to disable hardware acceleration altogether in the web browser. Here's the original stuttering thread that has A LOT of comments

In terms of the random hangs and shutdown issues there are multiple threads on reddit and the amd forums like this and this with the best solutions being to turn off MPO which I've done but doesn't fix the issue.
The "last resort" fix is to disable SAM and I don't count that as a solution at all because it cripples the GPUs performance by 10-20%.

I've reported both the video playback and crashing bugs to AMD multiple times, both through Wattman bug report and via email. I have also reported the bug to mozilla even though it's not a browser specific bug. I'm just super annoyed that something as simple as video playback and decoding can be so messed up on a modern GPU architecture. And I know there's going to be people that won't have this issue, again it's an issue that rears its ugly head when multiple high refreshrate (different resolutions and refreshrates) monitors are connected.

I have a 4090 sitting in my basket ready for checkout and I despise Nvidia's pricing/practices so much that I've put up with this nonsense for over a year now but I'm getting close to just being done with it already.

LOST TALE got a reaction from JobinJames in FYI Freesync Premium (LFC feature) does not work on HDMI 2.1
Fressync Premium works on DP 1.4 but not HDMI 2.1
HDMI 2.1 will only run Freesync normal without LFC (low frame rate compensation)

I tested this by forcing my fps to 24fps in games where freesync normal range worked and using a refresh rate number at the top of the screen to observe if the screen adjusts its refresh rate.

At this point if any game doesn't peak above 120hz and has any frame spike below 48hz then the display port cable is better.

It's sad that displays have been bottlenecked by cable standard adoption.

Return the card either way. Maybe the card is defective or its the drivers.

Or just stick to buying last gen for AMD to avoid the occasional pre-release beta. Anyway thanks for sharing.
For reference my rx 6800 has had no problems at stock. OC not perfectly stable though. Maybe it being mined with made a difference?

LOST TALE reacted to Underi in RX 7600 crashing, is this normal for AMD?
Hey. Decided to upgrade after 9 long years with my dear GTX 970. It was clearly nearing the end of it's life with problems OC'ing and modern triple-A games not running at 60fps even on the lowest of settings. The RX 7600 seemed like a great upgrade option but I'm starting to regret it.

I thought the meme about AMD drivers being dogwater and constant crashes and issues were just fanboys flaming and unfounded in general. Surely it can't be THAT bad? Well, I got the card three days ago and honestly it's starting to be too much. It happens AT LEAST daily, the drivers crashing, the screen going blank. If not during almost every game session. It doesn't matter if it's something lightweight like League or Cyberpunk 2077, it can and probably will crash. I'm talking like 5-15 times a day. Sometimes even when I'm just watching a youtube video. Is this really "normal" for an AMD card or is it just that new or is the card faulty? I honestly don't remember having any issues ever with my 970 unless I was overclocking.

LOST TALE got a reaction from Mark Kaine in Should we be concerned about the state of PC ports?
About buggy ports. I think you should extend your horizon and find games. I never once cared about a port. I recall console gamers would get excited about how 4 new cool games are coming. 4? what a small world. Also all you need is a 16gb card. the rx 6800 is a good gf that nobody wants for as low as 250 usd. Overkill even for 4k120. The average benchmark understates gpu's power by 2x because utlra settings are a waste.

But if you misjudge so hard that you think you need a 7900, console gaming has the simplicity you need.

LOST TALE reacted to shoutingsteve in Tips on selling 1440p144hz monitor
Besides the (what seems obvious) standards of taking great photos of it, it is important that you list that it is from "a smoke-free, pet-free home (or office)".  The number of usage hours is also really good to list, some monitors even have a backlight hour counter in the menus system to tell you how much it has been used.
Personally, I don't buy used electronics.  But when shopping for anything, consumers want to know that what they are buying is as close to new condition as possible.
