We've identified the issue and flagged it to the forum software devs, but the fix is likely to be somewhat complex (and specific to the fact that there are loads of really large topics that would have been returned), so it may never actually get fixed.

I can understand how it's taking up real important "real-estate" while having no real use there.. How about having it as an outro? I think the people who really care about the intro are also the same kind of people who stay until after the last ad spot to watch the last little ramblings of a video, so they could also appreciate the old intro as a outro!

I've made a crude mock-up of what it would look like.. obviously it's  not perfect as I've noticed you guys have some custom audio. But check it out... I think it would be nice to not lose it completely 💔

As someone alluded to, we're experimenting with removing it. The first minute or so of the video is such valuable air time that I feel it no longer makes sense to clog it up with something that - by definition - brings nothing new/unique to the table.

I'm not married to the idea of killing it, but that's the way I'm leaning right now.

It is not an LTT video without the intro that has evolved and found a place in peoples minds. For seven years the song Supernova by Laszlo has been played at the beginning of your videos and has created a form of identity associated with Linus Tech Tips just like the song Jessica by The Allman Brothers Band being played in the intro of the show TopGear, because when you hear the music, you automatically know what is being played on the TV.

    Just my opinion.
    You do what you like.

It's a start for sure and a move towards taking away Windows dominance in the gaming marketplace.

Side note: It was great to see Emily back in this LTT video!

I just use Windows Defender, MBAM Premium, and CommonSense™. That being said, I've been doing IT Consulting and PC repair for over 10 years, so I might be a tad more experienced than most people. It doesn't make me impervious to infections, but spotting them is second nature so the chances are very slim.
There's such a lack of respect for ISO8601 in today's age of technology. I understand the differing date formats for paper forms, but on a computer or other digital platform there is only ONE correct way to write the date and time.
    Yes, and yes.
See above. AV software is really just a matter of personal opinion, at least when it comes to comparing the largest players in the game. Even Norton has come a LONG way from the poorly designed clunky piece of software it used to be.

That being said, I love how BitDefender essentially turned into malware itself because it failed to respect @LinusTech's decision to turn it off. Don't take this the wrong way but there's a reason I joke about security software essentially being malware itself due to the its' behavior in certain situations. If the very software suite that's supposed to protect your computer can't be turned off, or has a firewall that cuts off your internet connection due to a faulty update (looking at you Norton, BitDefender, Comodo, Panda, AVG, Avast, and M security...) then it's no better than the malware its' trying to remove. On the other hand, BitDefender isn't M security, so at least it has that going for it.

there's always brute-forcing your way to finding out if you have the CD-key, just keep installing versions of windows 7 and test the key until one of them works

windows 10 s is not targeted to tech enthusiasts or even an average user its for lets say your grandma just browsing something skypeing and all infarct its great so people with 0 experience wont fall for popup virus ads and get malware so i highly support it and a lot of other people.

    Hey,

Please don't quote whole walls of text, it adds clutter to threads.

I recommend you instead do this
Where snip stands for "snipped the rest of the quote for cleanness purposes"

We require that people do this when there's big images in the post they're quoting, or if you quote a big wall of text.

    Happy posting

sftgunner reacted to colonel_mortis in can the pause sign in the tab display go away?
The pause icon appears because when you leave the forum for long enough it stops polling for notifications. I would love for it to not stop, but it's not something that we have any control over I'm afraid.

That happens because on smaller editors, the emoji button isn't shown (because it's not used very often and can be replicated by typing instead) to save space. Your screen must cause the editor to just meet that threshold when editing a post.

We want to make this happen. It's still unclear how it'll work especially with respect to music licensing.

It's possible we will have to eliminate the "download MP4" feature and force people to stream outright.. but if we can find a way to keep it, PLEX integration is something I personally really want to see.

So I realise that this is pretty niche, but the (apparent) effort in implementing it appears to be very small.

Basically, Apple added support for Pinned tabs in Safari back in 2015. However, instead of using the Favicon.ico standard, they require a link tag and an SVG icon.

As I use the forum most days, and thus have it pinned, it would be useful to have a distinctive LTT icon there.

Ideally, you want all the connections to converge in a single place (ideally a place where you don't mind wires and maybe noise if you're going to be running a server or something) so that you can hook everything up to a switch, then hook the switch up to your router.
