chaozbandit reacted to GOTSpectrum for a blog entry, Folding Month VI Awards Ceremony
It is a great day, the day where you all find out where in the ranks you found yourself at the end of the event. I know there are a lot of new people in the team so I thought I would take a minute to explain the delay. Usually, after Folding Month ends I take a few days to look after myself. I'm a disabled guy with several chronic illnesses and although I love hosting Folding Month every year it does take it out of me, so having a few days to rest before I need to start handing out prizes is something I often do.

I think it's fair to say that this is the first event with Den-Fi that we can clearly say he has been surpassed on a large scale. On the one hand, I'm really happy to see the team doing so well, but on the other hand, it is a little sad that he is fading in common knowledge of the event. I suppose it is only natural when someone leaves the team that they would be slowly forgotten about. But I remember!

I would like to thank those who helped with the event this year, we have the usual thanks to @leadeater who continues to maintain and manage the script that is vital for the smooth running of these events. @cbigfoot does a lot of the leg work, validating point totals, inputting them to the spreadsheet and generally doing all the small odd jobs that need to be done. We also have @IkeaGnome and @TylerD321 who helped out along with others, so a massive thank you to everyone who makes these events happen.

Please can you all make sure we donate a few dollars to Jason over at EOC, his servers must have taken a beating with all the traffic we have thrown at the guy over the last month or so. You can either use this PayPal link or find the PayPal donation button on the EOC Website on the left. Don't forget to include a note thanking him so he knows it's from team LTT.  My personal go-to is, 'From LTT with love' but you are free to write your own.

In first place, we have @Mxyzptlk, who did not skip a beat at all during the event. He was one of those people I could not stop looking at throughout the event as he pushed forward harder and harder taking the team to new rights. Breaking every record set for a single participant for any folding event so far, he takes the rank of first and is crowned the king for the next year with an incredible 4,968,894,133 points. Folding through an equally incredible 8,457 Work Units over the 35 days of the event I think you can all agree with me when I say he certainly deserves the throne.

In second place, we have @jakkuh_t, even with all the power of LMG behind him, he was unable to challenge for first place, which I'm happy about as it would be a little sad if he was the one to take the crown by the end of the event. He managed to be another person who broke the last events record and if it wasn't for Mixie he would certainly be the new record holder. He takes the rank of second with 4,198,415,473 points produced from a total of 5,309 Work Units.

In Third place, we have @Shlouski, who managed to hold on and take third place after being displaced by the LMG participant for this event. He managed to come in second place last event and if it wasn't for Jake I'm sure he would have managed to take second in this event as well, but it was not on the cards with Jake doing what he does. He takes the rank with 4,036,060,417 points being produced from 6,058 Work Units.

In fourth place, we have Justaphf, who for those of you who don't know is the number of man on the team overall. He managed to take fourth which just goes to show that consistency can get you very high in the project even if you don't have the most folding hardware. Fold for a long time, consistently day after day and you can gain some impressive ranks overall. He takes the rank with 3,728,232,321 points, meaning he is the last of the people to surpass the 3.7 billion point record from the last event. He managed to fold through 4,827 Work Units.

In fifth place, we have miker07, who won the last folding month event so to see him fall off the podium is a little sad, but hey that's the way it goes. He actually produced fewer points than the last event too by about 100m so not too far behind but it is still an incredible feat. Taking the rank with 3,673,278,709 points produced from 4,919 Work Units.

6th place is filled out by Alex Atkin UK, who only managed to take 10th during the last event, his wide-ranging upgrades to his folding hardware certainly helped him to take a better rank during this event. He takes the rank with 2,845,561,746 points through 3,987 Work Units.

7th place is Gorgon, who funnily enough was also filling out 7th place during the last folding month event. He takes the rank with 2,452,071,785 points produced from 4,310 Work Units.

8th place is _Rlocke who actually came in fifth place during the last event so technically he managed to do worse than his last showing. he takes the rank with 1,621,684,056 points produced from 2,883 Work Units.

In 9th place, we have vsteel who was filling out the post of gatekeeper for a small while during the event but in the end, managed to take over his final rank with 1,288,657,478 points, these points were produced by folding 1,598 Work Units.

Finally, we have 10th place, Baha managed to take over Firedfly by the time the final whistle blew and managed to secure a place in history. He took the rank with 1,148,598,346 points and folded through 1,521 Work Units throughout the event.

Usually, we just go through the top ten for the final post but I want to mention three others who managed to pass the billion-point mark during this event. For the first time in the history of folding events, we have had not only the whole top ten break that barrier but 13 people.

So in 11th, we have firedfly who managed to take his rank with 1,148,598,346 produced through 1,521 Work Units.

in 12th place, we have ShampooTime who takes the rank with 1,142,848,757 points from 1,924 Work Units.

Finally, the last person to produce one billion points we have Favebook who takes the rank of 13th with 1,018,925,665 points from 1,876 Work Units.

Once again we get to enjoy the daily rankings of a folding month.

Ladles and Gentlespoons, here on the team many of us look forward to this event, year after year we come together as a team, to join together, to fold together, to compete together, but in the end the only true winner is science.

It is always a great pleasure for me to write the first blog post, the first of many to come over the next five weeks. It is always interesting to see who has already leap out of the gates, and who is taking their sweet time in getting the points flowing. There are a number of people who have not yet started folding, please see below for a list of tagged members of the forum who need to start folding. Only time will tell who truly has the metal to make it through the heat, the trials and tribulations, who among us drives forward in the pursuit of science and who will fall beside the roadway, failing to meet the minimum requirements. I as a rule try not to give to much weight to the points on the first day, afterall, we can seen in many events that everything can change. And it can change quickly too!

So unlike the event last year Shlouski is the person to take the number one spot, with a mighty impressive 73,825,796 points. He has painted himself as the man to catch. It is a shame to see that Miker07, a fourth year veteran of the events to let him take the hot seat, Miker has the second spot with a still very impressive 62,558,110 points. Justaphf is next up with 39,705,546 points, a man now getting his third event under his belt will certainly be looking to get himself a shiny new badge this year. An interesting note, on the first day of the last folding month Mr. phf was also sitting in third place. Sitting almost 25% behind the guy in front, Mxyzptlk is taken the fourth place with 30,153,383 points for the first day, besting himself from the year prior for first day performance where he was sitting in fifth. LAR_Systems, the man of information, the man with all the data, is in fifth place with 27,086,584 points, it will certainly be interesting to see if all that data he has works out in his favour.

Oromit, a new name to me, has found themself in 6th place, 26,246,269 points so far is great to see from a new name. It will be interesting to watch them as the days and weeks go on, can they keep it up or will they find themselves faltering before the finish line. Gorgon, the folder from the great white north, on his fourth folding month, has taken up 7th with 23,234,405 points, Gorgon did not participate last event and I hope to see him come back will all guns firing. Ben_F is massively lacking from last year, where he was sitting in second place, but this year it is 8th where he finds himself, with 19,808,400 points, he is only slightly lower than his total points last year, but we can see just how much has changed with compute power over the last 12 months. Schultzie2497 Is yet another new name to me, finding themself in 9th place with 13,115,060 points, it is a great showing for a new person to the events. The gatekeeper has been shown to us from the folding god Foldsus, _Rlocke a man who have dominated these events in the past, but missed last event is taking up the place of the honourable gatekeeper with 12,838,686 points.

So here we are, yet again another year has passed up by and we are once again cranking the dials to 11.

I know for many of you this year will be painful, we are seeing a global energy crisis of the likes many of us have never seen before.
Some of you, this will be the first time in which you have joined us, and for a very select few this will be your chance to get the event veteran badge.
For those few of you out there who join me in the elite club of joining every single folding month, I owe you a special than you, you guys are truly fanatics. But, for those of you joining for the first time, welcome, we are happy to have you in our ranks and I'm sure you will slot right in.

I think it would be irresponsible of me not to give this warning, if you cannot afford the power usage of your hardware, please stop. We understand that it is a hard time for many of us with money atm and a forum badge is not worth getting into debt for.

As many of you can see I have decided on a new change with this years blog, I'm trialing centre alignment for the blogs. The truth is as I've gone on with my own journeys of creating written content I have just come to prefer this style. If it causes any issues please let me know.

In October we produced more points as a team as we did during folding month last year, so I am expecting big things this year!

Anyway, less off me waffling on and let's get to folding!

Ladles and Gentlespoons, it has to be said that quality has made up for quantity this year, we may be thin on the group but we have sure made up for that with the inane level of production we have seen during the third annual folding month. what this month lacks in surprises and excitement it made up for in sheer clout.

Before we get into the ranks and awards I want to give thanks, first of all I want to thank everyone who participated, no matter if you folded billions of points, or a handful of points, it truly is only a great event because all of you guys get involved.

I also want to thank the team behind the scenes, @leadeater deserves our thanks because he is the one who created the script that revolutionised the way in which we handle data, and it has continued to work without flaw during this event(Minus the human error at the start of the event). @marknd59 has been a massive help with validating the points for the daily updates ensuring we could be confident of the data we were publishing. @cbigfoot jumped in to help with points validation from time to time, especially after mark fell ill. @ssmmdd and @j1philli also helped with the event. I'm sorry if anyone from the events team has been missed.

This year has been stressful for many of us, with great amounts of uncertainty and anxiety. It can easily be said that for some of us this year has been the most difficult in living memory. We have lost jobs, savings, our homes and even our loved ones, but here, on this forum we stand together, we stand strong and united. We are just one team of many working together to seek out knowledge where there was only a void before. To further the understanding of human health, to maximise our comprehension of diseases. This is a noble task, and for that, I salute you all.

    List of the honoured dead

It is a sad time when we see the demise of our hardware, even more sad when that hardware holding out a few more days or weeks would have secured a better position.

    LpoolTech's Mouse
    CBigfoot's SeaSonic 750 Gold PSU
    John Anti's 2 x  AF120LED case fans
    Gorgons's Gigabyte b450M DS3H
    Justpoets's APC 1500 UPS batteries
    rodarkone's Alphacool Eisbaer 240
    Homeofmew's Hard Drive
    Unilever's Zotac 2080ti amp extreme, 1 cheap 256GB SSD, and 2 EVGA 750 PSU's
Yaboistar's centre fan on their 1080Ti
    Rybo's MSI 970 Gaming motherboard
    Jack Nafier's Dell Inspirion 5570
    Wall03's RX 470 4GB
    Baha's Zotac GTX 970

Rest In Piece Valiant hardware, there is a special place in silicon heaven(Red Dwarf Reference right there) for you, lest we forget.

Now, it is time to get to what we have all waited for, THE RANKS!

In first place we have @Den-Fi, taking his throne for the second time. ALL HAIL THE KING! Sitting in what can only be called a very comfortable seat with 2,342,017,007 points he never really looked like loosing. Our previous best point total for any event was 886,386,763 points set during the last folding month. The most interesting point to make of his astounding victory is the fact that ran all of his hardware himself and didn't sport a single mercenary during the event.

In Second place we have @Macaw2000, the king of the mercenaries, he may have gain his position by the use of cloud computing but with 1,641,029,686 points we won't hold that against him. Our second person to have over one billion points for a folding event your name should be revered like royalty.

In third place we have @rodarkone, our third and final person to breach the one billion points barrier during folding month with 1,044,854,657 points to their name during this event has claimed this respectable position. Let your pride beam from you like the searing glow of a searchlight in the night.

4th place is filled by newbie @Unilevers with 941,856,695 points, this is still better than our historical best and a fine score to achieve during the event.

5th place is filled by @miker07with 845,682,351 points, down one position from last folding month.

    6th @Gorgonwith 843,750,865 points.

    7th @Shlouskiwith 657,555,359 points.

    8th @_Rlockewith 651,385,368 points.

    9th  @LAR_Systems with 542,632,893 points.

    10th @Justaphf with 521,033,918 points.

    Now onto the little announcements!

The first to come is the new higher folding badge thresholds, these new values have been decided due to the increase of power a GPU can provide; this has made it much easier to achieve badges in recent years. The new thresholds below will come into force on January 1st, 2021. Anyone holding a current badge will be grandfathered in! This means you won't have your badge downgraded after the new thresholds come into effect.

    The second announcement is the new rules for future events, these rules are still preliminary and we are awaiting final confirmation from the mod team. these rules are subject to change;

Failing to meet the minimum requirements.

    Publicly discussing the administration of the event;
If you have an issue with the way in which the event is being conducted please reach out to an appropriate member of the event team.

Signing up to the event with a folding identity that is believed to not be your own.

Signing up to the event with more than one folding identity.

    Conducting yourself in a manner that is believed to be not in the spirit of the event, this includes but not limited to the below;
purposefully only meeting the minimum requirements, acting to undermine the integrity of the event, to attempt to cause division within the community.

Breaking any one of these rules will result in a disqualification from the event. It is also important to know that there is no appeal process for disqualifications.

We have Den-Fi wearing the crown with 1,711.05 million points, Macaw2000 with 1,141.14 million points and in third place rodarkone with 752.71 million points. Unilevers on in fourth with 723.84 million points followed by miker07 in fifth with 654.80 million points, Gorgon remains in sixth place with 633.35 million points, Shlouski is on seventh with 499.53 million points, _Rlocke in in eighth place with 481.32 million points, LAR_Systems in ninth with 400.69 million points and finally the gatekeeper remains the fortified Justaphf with 390.83 million points.

Honestly there's not much to talk about here so I am going to forgo the usual rankings and take this blog post to instead talk about why we fold. As I am sure you all know the world is currently in the grips of a viral pandemic that spreads across all continents, and has touched every country. Now, in recent times it is this pandemic that has been taking a major part of the computational power of the network, but there is other research that is being done.

Causes like cancer for instance, where it is hoped that by gaining better ideas around the development of cancers could lead to better treatments. I haven't talked about this much on here but my step-mum was  diagnosed with breast cancer just before the event started and has recently undergone surgery. it is hoped that there will be little need for further high aggressive treatment but it could still be another week or two before we know what, if any further treatment is required.

So, as much as this is a competition, it is sometimes nice to look back, at everyone else on the team, and all the other teams; to realise that we are all working together, towards improving human knowledge, human understanding. I think it is easy to forget that some of the work we are doing is right on the bleeding edge of human medical research.

Make sure you all take a short time to just appreciate what it is you are actually doing, what you are contributing towards.

Ladles and gentlespoons, We come together today to celebrate Wait, wrong speech.

Here we are again for another year, I'm really looking forward to see what we can do between CUDA and the new 30 series cards for the few that have them. It will also be nice to se some tier two event badges knocking around the forum. I am so happy to see the regulars, and even more happy to see some new names in the list!

In First place we have rodarkone with 34.47 million points, an impressive number and it will be interesting to see if Den-Fi can throw a little more skin into the game as he is trailing very narrowly with 32.3 million points. JoYoung finds himself taking the number three spot with 28.19 million points, as a new face around here he is sure showing he wont be having anyone take his lunch money if his first day in the playground is anything to go by. Fourth place is occupied the well known Miker07 with 21.29m points, Unilevers has no respect for social distancing hovering behind him with 21.05m points. with the top five already pulling away we have Gorgon taking sixth place with 16.7m points. _Rlocke will be looking to see if he can squeeze out some more juice as he is only a stones throw behind with 16.0m points. 8th place is Shouski with 14.3 million points followed up by Justaphf with 13.6m points and the top ten is rounded out by Mr.FoldingDatabase himself LAR_Systems with 10.4 million points.
