  1. Only Calculus is how we have derived and uncovered quasars! So Calculus > Quasar. I don't want ancient sounding. My point was that Calculus sounds more like a name than Geometry or other math subjects. Yes, conformity is easy. But I do not conform based on ad populace. A "normal" name simply means a name which has been used by others (thereby removing the use of the unique identifier) and one which is socially accepted. Love it! Calculus, while being taught in high school, is really a college thing. You don't really use it until you go into advanced subjects like physics, economics and finance (to name a few). Does calculus get used in software engineering? That isn't a problem. All names were things before they were used as human identifiers. I am not really interested in naming my kid after a mathematician. Sorry but I'd question that validity, especially if you despise it. How can someone despise the foundation of modern technology and scientific understand? The way we can take the most advanced and logical language of the human race, math, and give specific things and features of things a name in that language is amazing. But then on top of that, taking those names and being able to link them together in a way no other language can do, via integrals and derivatives is utterly astonishing! We take descriptions of an object in relative space and give it descriptions like velocity, acceleration, jerk, etc, and each of these seemingly separate descriptions can be transformed into one another! Anyone who despises advanced math had teachers who properly lacked an understanding of its scope. It is utterly amazing! But I digress... What is a regular name? For instance, my wife named our first kid Zuri (which is Swahili). Many may not consider it a normal name, in the US, but in other parts of the world it could be called "regular". The aspect of a "regular" name or "normal" doesn't actually exist. But I figure most mean a common regurgitated name. I do not see why it should be done with names, yet with other topics, new is okay. People like trying new foods, inventing new foods. We like new designed computer cases and discovering new aspects of the universe. It is strange to me that when it comes to names, conformity and regurgitation is so desired. "Name him like everyone else because everyone else was named after everyone else," is not a cogent argument. Plus, at some point all names we use today were used for the first time, originating from a thing, or object, whether named after the that culture's name for the sun, air, bird, a color, a food, or some combination of those and beyond. When is stagnation okay? And doesn't anyone like the name?
  2. My wife and I are expecting our second kid. We just found out its a boy and well, shit. I had a great girls name all ready to be used. As for boy's names, I've got a short list (still open, though) but the top pick (for me, not my wife) is Calculus. My wife was originally on board with the name but has switched to the dark side. I think due to other's reviews of the name. We both want lesser used or completely unused names, but nothing that sounds completely crazy. I'm not naming my kid Toaster (gotta stick with the criteria I list below). And Calculus sounds like it should have been an ancient name, like Romulus! She recently posted on reddit about the name and I still don't think a single person has said anything positive about it. My criteria for a name is it must be related to math, science (preferably quantum mechanics, astrophysics and/or cosmology), sci-fi, superheroes and/or comic books. I'm a fan of all of that and, should my brain not fail me, studying to be a physicist. I like Calulus (both the math and the name). I get that many have PTSD when it comes to math, but that's a problem with their teachers and education experience, not the subject itself. Calculus is amazing, both in application, practice and philosophically. I love it. My math professor, as well as some engineering classmates/friends have stated they think the name is awesome, but perhaps they are just saying that to my face. So I thought I'd ask the community here; what do you think of the name Calculus (Cal for short)? P.S. He'll have a traditional middle name (named after a family member) that he can fall back on if he has issues with it. So the potential of complete life ruining is unlikely. P.P.S. Side note/story, I was almost named Jor-El, after superman's father (my fam needed a J name), but ended up with Joseph. I thought it would be neat if I "almost" called my kid Kal-El, but instead went with Calculus (or some other Cal/Kal portion name).
  3. It took a day after I posted this but someone from them emailed me. They apologized and said they are sending out a replacement reverse tweezers and tool roll (I guess that's what the case is called). I appreciate the reply. Their customer service seems great, although it was difficult to find the support email and their phone was always busy. I got this because of the ads on your shows. Although after this problem occurred, I went through several videos and haven't seen any of your use their kits, except for maybe one scene on one episode of one season of Scrapyard Wars, on a remote tear down. So I was starting to think they weren't good enough and ads were ads and not endorsements in anyway. Like I said before, I really like the driver set, although I do wish the driver was a ratcheting one. Besides that glaring oversight of an upgrade, I really like the driver set. But based on the quality of the rest of the kit, I don't think the extra $40 (price dif between the driver set and the pro kit with the driver set and all the plastic tools and case) are worth that price difference. Most of those plastic parts are barely held in the tool roll. But maybe the replacement tweezers and a properly fitting tool roll will change my overall perception of the quality of this thing. If and until then, I definitely recommend anyone looking to buy a toolkit should go for the essentials or just the driver set, based on my experience. I don't see the value in plastic parts for that extra $40 to $50.
  4. Bought the new pro kit. I don't think this was worth it at all! 1. The entire case doesn't fully close properly. The velcro doesn't even line up and it wouldn't survive an accidental drop. 2. The second tool I used was one of the tweezers and it instantly broke. 3. The driver set is nice, but that's really the only good thing I have to say on it. Definitely not worth it...
  5. Blah. Now I'm being all OCD about the weight of the D15 on my mobo. I'm doing my more of my research now and seeing horror stories...
  6. Quick Q, why did you pick the D15 instead of the D14? Or the D15S? That came up while I was double checking socket type compatibility. Apparently D15 requires me to order an adapter kit.
  7. Actually: https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835608045 According to this diagram, its the fan that is 32mm of clearance. The actual heat sink is 64mm. I could put the fan on the other side or mount it higher. I think I saw an episode on LTT where one of the guys had to do that. I am thinking I'm back to getting this. lmao.
  8. Or maybe the D15 clearance is larger than 32mm and amazon is wrong??
  9. I as all ready to get a D15 (cause it will hold its value better than something with a pump), but Amazon claims it only alots for 32mm of ram clearance. Well, apparently my ram is ~40mm according to reps chat on newegg. Maybe someone here can help me verify? This is my ram: https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231277
  10. Yeah. I figured out the most cost effective, but that ended up not being possible, unless I remove sticks of ram. Where did you find that photo of my case with the noctua d15 inside? Maybe I can track that down and find out what ram their rockin...
  11. If I grab the new case or get a smaller aio radiator, like the h55. Can only do one thing now, so I guess I'll get the case and aim for a water cooler next. ...
  12. I'm told the ram is 40mm and according to amazon, noctua can only clear 32mm. So re-evaluating.
  13. So now I'm thinking I'm gonna hit the air cooler. I was looking and found that they hold their value. So I can grab one of those now and start learning how to overclock with my 930. Then I can try out a Xeon later and push it as far as I can on air. Then get the case and aio and be able to compare temps. That way I can either resell the tower or if money permits, keep it on hand as a good backup cooler. I'm doing some last minute comparisons between the D15 and D14. The D15 says it can clear ram up to 32mm. How do I find out if it'll fit my board with ram??
  14. Someone also mentioned the x62 had to have third party software running in the background all the time, because they had an older board. (which mine is old), So I have to research that a bit too.
  15. Haven't decided yet. I figured I shouldn't pick a cooler till I pick what xeon I'm getting. There are a few things that have thrown me off when looking at them. I actually started another thread asking about air coolers (the ones you suggested) and water coolers with the two xeons I'm looking at. I'm currently leaning towards either the h110, just cause its 40 cheaper than the x62, but still a 280mm. But I also just watched season 4 of SYW and it freaked me out when linus found the interior clogged to shit. I've also had a big chemistry test looming, so haven't done as much research as I'd like. BTW, is there a big performance difference between the x61 vs x62? Its a large price difference.
  16. So typos aside, why would the 90 do the same on water or air? Does this mean the 90 isn't as OC-able as the 80? Or is the LotR reference mean something I'm missing?
  17. Here's what I was looking at :http://cpuboss.com/cpus/Intel-Xeon-X5690-vs-Intel-Xeon-X5680 If you scroll down, you'll see where it says "why choose this one" type section for each the 80 and 90. The part I'm wondering about is why it says the 90 is better at air cooling, topping at 4.47ghz vs the 80's 4.28. Then it says the 80 has the better overclock at water cooling with 4.7 vs the 90's 3.47. Even if that's a typo and meant to be 4.7 vs 4.47... So are there processors that will overclock higher with air vs water or visaversa? Cause according to this, if I buy a water cooler, I'd have to go to the 5680, but if I go air, I should be hitting the 90.
  18. There are images online of people fitting it in the same case, barely.... Hm. So it seems the Kraken can barely pull ahead, but is also running slower and probably quieter than the h100i....Gah! Was hoping for more clear cut, get this if you want to do what you want to do and anything else will leave you with a computer on fire, type situation.
  19. How is it better? I keep hearing its better but I'm not understanding how. Especially when examples can show the H100i ahead. Also, the H100i is like half the price of the X62. I do love my RGB, but not an extra $75 love... 1. 6 year warranty? That makes me feel alot better about potential pump failings. 2. I have a 7 year old board. x58 from 2010. Didn't realize I'd have to have extra software running... Another concern though is if the Noctua (or similar) can clear my ram. It would be close if it does... but an aio would require me to get a new case now. I planned to get a new case anyways (hate my current) but with a tower, I can hold off a bit longer before spending another hundred... ><
  20. I'm surprised the H100i is on top. I asked about it in the other thread and was told to go for the NZXT Kraken. But it looks like the H100 is cheaper. Are you overclocking? I'm aiming to get a xeon 6 core and overclocking it to a minimum of 4ghz. I'd like to see how far I can push it though. AIOs are also scary to me. Not as scary as a DIY water loop but still scary. Especially after seeing season 4 of SYWs and seeing how clogged the radiator Linus got, was.
  21. In another thread I was convinced to go for a Xeon to replace my i7 930, and to overclock that. I'm convinced and looking at the E5675, 5680 and 5690. When I look at sites like cpuboss when comparing these, I will see OC numbers based on water vs air. For instance comparing the 5690 to the 5680, I see one overclocked better with air vs water. Does this mean air towers are sometimes better than AIOs? Or is there something about the comparison that I'm missing? Part 2: I've been advised to get either the Kraken X63 or an option of three tower coolers that include a noctua dh-15. I've never used an aftermarket cooler before and I am not sure which is better. Ive heard AIOs only last 2 to 4 years before the pump fails or maintenance of the liquid is required. I also am not a fan of the aesthetics for the large tower coolers, especially that puke tan and brown of the noctua. I'm planning on going balls to the walls OCing (starting slow and ramping up as I feel more comfortable) and I don't want to have to upgrade later on to a better cooler. Are these the two best after market coolers or is there something better? Please no DIY loops.
  22. I've never had an issue with the EVO 850. I did some research a few years ago when I bought it and saw they were the top rated (don't remember by all the different "whos") but its been wonderful. I did recently see that Samdisk SSDs were being praised, but don't remember where I read about it. Was at least a month ago. Maybe you can find that if you don't want to go for the higher priced 850. And I'm sure people are fine with PNY but I hate them with a passion. Four days of my life gone, just to save $40. Good luck with the RMA! Hopefully it doesn't fail within another year!
  23. Bad companies have to skimp as much as possible. Keep pushing.
