  1. I mean based on that, then every knife is a surgical tool. My point is that all these "gaming" monitors list gaming related features for the panel, which I don't need or care for in this case. And anything that doesn't have those features seems to cost more, like with your provided list. I don't understand this. How can removing features increase the price? I expected to find monitors without the "gaming" features for less. Like the same monitor, but at 60hz rather than 144hz, and save $50+ but apparently it's the opposite.
  2. I have been looking and I didn't say they didn't exist. I said they don't in my price range unless they are labeled as "gaming". Idk how posting a bunch of monitors that are well out of that price range, even on ebay, somehow says I am not looking?
  3. Full screen compatibility isn't an issue, since this isn't the main monitor. I wouldn't be full screening any content or rarely. I'd have whatever video playing and to one side I'd have discord or chrome open. So black bars are not an issue.
  4. I am trying to find a good second monitor for my setup, as my previous just died on me. It is primarily for movies, YouTube, web searching when my main monitor has a game running, and discord. I like the idea of a curved ultrawide monitor, since this is in the corner of my L shaped desk. Plus most of them have PBP, so I can easily use it for work when I bring my laptop home on the rare occasion. But every single curved ultrawide I find has gaming in the title, has at least 100hz, freesync and VA panel. I don't need to spend extra on high refresh, latency or freesync. Ideally I want a nice high res IPS or something similar, but it doesn't seem to exist in my price range (~$250 give or take). Why the heck are all the monitors in this price range vn high refresh rate "gaming" monitors?
  5. Looking into more myself, it looks like the Sony Xperia type phones may be an option but not sure. Their naming scheme is a bit confusing. Anyone know anything about these as an option?
  6. I think $700 is my limit. Phone can be previous gen. I usually only have a phone for two years but I have always gotten a flagship from a year or two, not the newest. But that was also due to my budget in the past being ~$300. As for other features, I am looking for at least 6gb of RAM (but prefer 8+) and wireless charging. I have other preferences but they aren't deal breakers. For instance, one that is almost a deal breaker is a flat screen. I dislike the curved edges. For reference, I've always had Nexus and pixel phones. I did have a Note 9 and thought I'd like the curved edge but ended up hating it. When I put a case on it, I found that it was less protected and sure enough, that was the first phone since the my first phone (droid x) which gained a crack in the screen. Based on a short use of the Z flip 3 I had a year ago, I think if I had a folding phone, I'd mainly be using the outer screen. So the fold would only have the larger screen used at night/home or the rare occasion I am on a plain. So the outer screen would be my daily driver of a sort. But the newness of folding phones is my main hesitation for going with that (cause on paper it checks all my boxes) but like you said, it is new. That's why I am trying to find an alternative. I'd go pixel 5 if it had another year of updates. I did see some low end Samsung phones with the stuff I want but their power and RAM seem too low.
  7. I just checked it out and it's missing wireless charging, which I consider a must. I've had too many phones where it'll refuse to charge via cable or only when the cable is held at an angle. Wireless, even slow wireless, is a backup that has let me continue using a smartphone with a shit port (like my current Pixel 3).
  8. It takes longer to unlock by adding additional steps to the process of getting into the phone. With a fingerprint sensor on the back or side, I can have the phone unlocked as I'm removing it from my pocket or picking it up from a desk. It also is done one-handed. With under display, it requires an adjustment of grip to unlock, since I have to move my hand down from a secure grip. Usually I need two hands to unlock it as I change my hands position. There is also the issue of getting blinded whenever I unlock the screen in the evening/at night, since a bright light is required to allow the sensor to read the fingerprint. I dislike it so much that I'd rather be stuck with a several year old phone should the industry go exclusively under display fingerprint sensors. I think the tech is great and it's use has its place (such as in embedded consoles or some phones) but I don't like it or want it on my phone. My wife got a Pixel 7 with that $200 Mint mobile deal and we both hate that sensor as well. My wife dislikes the inconsistency and the bright light blinding her when unlocking. She's going to put up with it until we can unlock the phone and sell it. Then she'll get something like a Z flip.
  9. I am looking to upgrade from a Pixel 3. I tried a Pixel 6 and absolutely hate the fingerprint reader under the display. I honestly don't understand why the industry is moving this way. I am trying to keep my budget below $700. I am also looking for a phone set to get updates for at least another year, if not two. Currently I am leaning towards a Z Fold 3, although I am worried about the durability of the main folding screen. But I'm willing to deal with it for the fingerprint reader placement. I am still hoping to find alternatives. I was also leaning towards a Pixel 5 but that has less than a year left on updates. I am in the U.S. and finding it very difficult to find options. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I've been looking for a long while now.
  10. What about 5600? The price delta between 6000 and 6400 seems so small.
  11. If I drop to the 12600kf, I can get it all for $20 over my budget. Is it that big of a difference from the 13th gen? Is it better to get the 13600KF and slower ram or the 12600kf with 6400 ram?
  12. This is the mobo I am desiring now. https://www.newegg.com/asus-prime-z790-p-wifi/p/N82E16813119603 So that kit of ram puts me too high above my limit. How important is the 6400 CL32?
  13. Instead of asking you how to check, I googled and found software to find out what I have. According to Thaiphoon Burner, I have C-die. So I should go ddr5?
  14. Budget (including currency): 600 Country: USA Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Mostly gaming and sometimes hosting games. Some light, video and photo editing, as well as some programming such as writing and running physics simulations. Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): Currently have an RTX 3080 and 16gb ddr4 3600mhz ram. I've been experiencing problems for the last 5 or 6 months with my entire computer freezing or hanging for anywhere from 2 to 20 seconds. I've run tests and I do not believe it is any of my other parts. So I was going to replace my current 8700k and asus maximus x motherboard. I was originally going to grab some ebay deal for a 5600x or a 12600k, but I ran into this site and a few others talking about bottlenecks. One of the main games I play is Apex Legends and according to pc-builds any of these replacements would have a bottleneck due to the cpu. https://pc-builds.com/bottleneck-calculator/result/10f174/2i/apex-legends/1920x1080/ Now I'd rather have a bottleneck on my gpu rather than my cpu, as I'd like to have other programs running in the background. Looking over what doesn't give a bottleneck, according to pc-builds I'd need at least a 13700k or a 5950x. These with the type of mobo I want (one enough usb ports and with a grey/metal aesthetics) eats up all my budget. I was planning on increasing my ram to 32gb and getting another m.2 drive as my current gaming drive is getting rather full. So is pc-builds accurate? Also, is it worth it to switch to ddr5? The mobo price difference between the D4 version and ddr5 version are so small and all the ddr5 kits I'm looking at seem to default to 32gb anyways. But going ddr5 and a 13700k aren't possible. So is the bottleneck accurate or can I go cheaper cpu and get more ram? Thank you ahead of time and very interested in your opinions.
  15. Hello all. My mom had a mac (or is it mac book?) whose HDD failed. I am not experience with Macs but I am hoping replacing the broken HDD with an SSD will be close enough to the times I've done so for windows laptops. I know parts compatibility is a thing for macs, so I am unsure if there is an SSD available or if I have to use a specific HDD only. Is a 120GB SSD big enough or will I have to go to 250GB or higher? Trying to keep the cost to get this laptop up and running as low as possible. Bottom of the mac says A1278. Thank you for any suggestions.
  16. I'd much rather prefer a large heatpipe. I'd understand if that was the case for the higher end boards. But from low to high, they almost all use shitty fans.
  17. If there isn't a date and it's not compatible, I don't think it's an options for something to use nowish.
  18. So if I don't have a pcie gen 4 device in use, it probably won't turn on?
  19. I wouldn't want to go that far. Just software so it'll turn on when it gets way too hot, should it
  20. I am curious. I am still on the hunt for a motherboard and I had been avoiding x570 due to the fan. However I realize it's probably the best choice, seeing as I already have a 2700x and want to upgrade to 4th gen ryzen when it comes out. The alternative would be going b550, grabbing a 3600 and flipping my 2700x. However that's more hassle and will probably make the performance gain of a 4600 less appealing going from a 3600 to 4600 instead of a 2700x to 4600. I just really dislike having a small fan in my system. Hoping it can be turned off or curve changed to such a degree that it'll be off all the time except if I use a pcie 4.0 device (which I won't be).
  21. I remember being very interested in this board back when x470 launched. My current x370 board is trashed. Thinking about going with that since one at a decent price became across my attention. There isn't a lot of info on it post launch, so wondering if anyone here has any opinions on it?
  22. I havne't tried to OC Ryzen. I've seen it removes the single core boost too much. I've heard OCing intel is easy, as it just changes the multiplier. Maybe I'm wrong on this. I just figured if I get Ryzen, I shouldn't OC and if I get Intel, I should OC.
