Is it worth it to try and sell them, or try to complete the sets? I have over 1,000 games on Steam, and half as much in trading cards. I want to figure out what I should do with them.

Which 5700XT do you have? I would recommend going to the manufacturer's website and checking for a vBIOS update, followed by a clean driver install. That should fix your issues. I did this for my ASUS ROG STRIX model, and I haven't had any of the known driver issues since.

I would recommend upgrading the 2070S. I think that would be the best bang / buck for VR upgrade. a 1060 can still do VR, but the RX 580 / GTX 1060 have always been the bare minimum for a serviceable experience. Oculus also has a custom SDK for the Turing NVENC to do more believable ASR: https://developer.oculus.com/blog/asw-and-passthrough-with-nvidia-optical-flow/?locale=en_US I think that'll be your night and day difference. RAM is cheap now too, so I would recommend you pursue that as well with faster memory that can carry over to your next system.

I forgot to report back. Thank you for the suggestion. We did go with a 280mm AIO, and we were able to hit 4.3ghz all core with ease under stress tests. This is a gaming + VM box, so he is very happy

Hi all! As the title describes, I am looking for a cool 240mm radiator with full RGB for my buddy's 3900X. We are going to Micro Center on Saturday, and I am curious as to what you guys think! It may be worth it to sit at 16GB until I absolutely need to upgrade my RAM. I do not want to take a performance hit unless I have to. At the very least, I figure I could set some aggressive timings to get equivalent performance at 2933. Hopefully :).

I have a feeling it will have to down clock to 2933 to hit those speeds, or will I be able to sustain 3200? The challenges I am hoping there are others here who have attempted similar.

I have been considering upgrading my RAM to 32GB in my current build. My challenge is, I do not want to downclock below DDR4 3200 speeds to do it. Has the memory support improved enough to not worry? The same kit I bought 2 years ago is on sale currently, so sticking with a proven kit may help, but I am not 100% sure. What are your thoughts? Thanks!

You say that, but it really is a major boost for those doing content creation and running a home server. More bandwidth and faster read/write speed will always be better for those types of use cases. For gaming? You can only load a game so fast. They are getting bigger though, so it is an only a matter of time until that is beneficial. That's why, IMO, the faster storage is the biggest perk of PCI-E 4.0. I bet in 3-5 years, We will all be itching for those speeds. It's just how the technology goes.

I would get DDR4 3600 memory just to max out the CPU. I can vouch for both the D15 and the Corsair RMx PSU. Both in my build are great. If you are getting an RX 5700XT, People love the Powercolor Red Devil. It has an awesome cooler for the price.

With that said, X570 and Ryzen 3000 is the way to go. X570 is the most future proof platform on the market, thanks to supporting much faster storage and the new PCI-E spec. In all of my years doing this stuff, I'd say having that stuff is probably more important than everything else. With Socket AM4, you can go up to Zen 3 without much issue. RAM and Storage are easier to upgrade. Video cards will be upgraded. Changing your entire platform because you want faster storage and video cards a few years from now potentially being limited by PCI-E 3.0? That's a heavier lift. People here may argue that we are a long time away from needing PCI-E 4.0 for graphics, but I think if we make any major advancements in ray tracing compute, we will hit that wall sooner rather than later.

6 years is a major ask. Just get the 2070S and an 8C/16T CPU. Don't get anything less.

It is true. I was toying around with AC: Origins yesterday and was surprised to see it consume 8 threads. I look into it, and apparently that game will gobble up compute if you have it.

Yeah, sadly for what you are targeting, you need a new machine. I personally have a bit of the itch to upgrade even with my Ryzen first gen as I am starting to target 100-200fps in all games, and I can tell my 5700XT is being held back a bit by it. For example, I notice in Quake Champions, even on low, I can only peak at 120fps~.

You could enable vSync and set an FPS limit to also reduce the need of the card. I don't consider 82C to be that hot at full load, but I am also used to running AMD cards where it isn't uncommon for them to run 75C-85C at full load (from my experience). What is your fan layout in the case? What CPU cooler are you using? Some positive air pressure tweaks I think could reduce temperatures. What frame rates are you getting now? I would plan to do a full upgrade to ensure you get what you are asking for. For the price of a 2080, you could get: 16GB DDR4 3600 RAM Ryzen 5 3600 w/ stock cooler Socket AM4 (B450) motherboard and an RTX 2060S / RX 5700 That will get you the frame rates you are looking for too, while getting you better performance for basically everything else. You can even spring for an after market cooler to overclock the Ryzen 5 too if you aren't hitting 144hz, but tbh, I am hitting 150+ fps in most esports titles with my Ryzen 7 1700 at 3.9ghz with an RX 5700XT just fine, so I imagine a Ryzen 5 3600 with the stock cooler will do the job without an issue.

I think most of us are running RX 5700s on PCI-E 3.0. I personally have no performance hit or issues. I wonder how much GTX 1070tis are going for on ebay, when you can find an RTX 2060 for $300~ USD right now for similar performance, and all of the new features.

I would take @Streetguru's advice. A GTX 1070ti is quite supported on all capable video editing programs. Your system is fine, the software you are using needs to change.

Yeah and not many reviewers really cover ultra-wide benchmarks. I actually do a bit of guess work as 2560x1080 is right in between 1080P and 1440P, so looking at both gives me an idea of what I'll get. In your case, it really will be some guess work. I am impressed by your performance with the 5700XT though.
