  1. Mine is a low res pic of rig. Pretty self-explanatory
  2. Well not to say Vista was horrid when it was first released, I just mean the concept UI behind Longhorn shown at PDC was just amazing. I mean Vista was a great graphical improvement over XP, but Plex just looked amazing. I remember upgrading to XP and before SP1 and some hotfixes, it was a bit of a mess to use. So you're right in that regard Goodbytes. Here I'll link what I was referring to.
  3. What I can say is that the 7970 imo is slightly in the lead right now single card wise. The new beta drivers are quite good, bout damn time.
  4. I don't know how many of you were around the scene in the early 2000s but I remember seeing the PDC 2003 event with the Plex UI that looked amazing and the we eventually had to settle with the less than disheartening Vista. Really what I want to discuss is what it would be like now if that UI had come out instead of Vista.
  5. Well, whoever has the money, has the power. For a while DirectX was a huge marketing ploy from the DX9 to DX10 transition. Though it wasn't intentional, they simply didn't have anything new to implement, and so instead they just ran a FUD (fear, uncertainty, and doubt) campaign about the future of OpenGL. I'm not going against DirectX because of the underhanded industry choke hold marketing that was run for it, but because OpenGL is still slightly faster in draw calls, vendor extensions allow for the newest features first (had "tessellation" 3 years earlier) and OpenGl is still supported on more platforms. I will offer some counter-intuitive points however. The draw calls is not that big of a deal considering DirectX efficiency has practically closed the margin. Vendor extensions are diminishing for the time being, and really the life cycle of engines is so much higher these days that it's a miracle for a few features to get in through a new title. Feature implementation costs a bit considering the developer either has to be trained or has to be someone with prior training (not very smooth). HOWEVER Cross platform support isn't something you can brush by. DirectX support on ARM platforms has been non-existent, just abysmal (don't even argue). Having more developers use OpenGL would allow easier transitions to mobile devices, Mac, and Linux. Hmmm, I wonder why Microsoft wants to ensure dominance over a graphics API???
  6. In fairness that is the beta, and it doesn't look that awful. Looks like that pic is missing some AA, AO, betters textures, and shader work.
  7. I think if I have any money left over this month, I'm going to donate some ecc spec ram to them.
  8. I'd have to recommend the Diamond 7970 White Box Version from MicroCenter. If you have a MicroCenter in your area, it's totally worth it, but it has to be picked up in-store. I got mine at 379.99. I simply don't think anything can beat it at that price.
  9. I haven't seen many faulty CPUs. I'd have to say the problem is probably with either the motherboard or PSU. Have you ever been able to post with it? Also something I'll go ahead and post is a link to checking whether your power supply is faulty or not. EDIT: Sorry, the forum is not allowing me to hotlink atm, let me know if you want me to PM you the link
  10. Okay, I just wasn't sure because the first person models have some sharp edges. Hopefully they allow us to control the level of tessellation in the actual game, cause like you said it seems pretty low as it is right now.
  11. I've been playing the beta quite a bit now and I believe a lot of things are still missing like the POM mapping, the suit textures aren't even close to being done and are missing a good light map imo. Also from what I can tell, tessellation has not been activated or fully optimized. So there are obviously a lot of things that are still not finished or implemented. This is more than likely based on a much older build of the game, however damage presets and general gameplay mechanics are really what they are trying to test. I don't however think that this will look much better. Hopefully they will allow some kind of sandbox editing of the graphics specs so we can make online play look better without modifying cvars or any mandatory server compliance files setting off some anti-cheat flags. I imagine they might be smart about it and let us activate an ultra spec. All in all this is just speculation so don't take my word for it.
  12. I'm a pretty big anime fan myself. I actually just finished watching GTO - Great Teacher Onizuka. I also like Ginga: Nagareboshi Gin, FMA, Darker Than Black, Ghost in the Shell, almost all Studio Ghibli films, Naruto, Samurai X/and Champloo, Cowboy Bebop, Big O, NG Evangelion, Code Geass, Paranoia Agent, Soul Eater, Eden of the East. I also recently watched all of Air Gear, which was interesting. Sorry it's really hard to pick just one.
  13. Hey guys, I saw StreekG introduce himself so I thought I probably should as well instead of just being a forum creeper. Anyways I am also a long time subscriber of LinusTechTips. I've been lurking around the forum for a little while now and it seems to be a pretty friendly community. :) Well my name is Jonttu and I'm 20 from Georgia (USA). I'm originally from Finland though and am fluent in English and Finnish, so let me know if there are any other Finns out there in the forum. I'm sure it goes without saying that I love computers as well. In my free time I build computers for people around my area as a small hobby, and aside from that I enjoy art, music and writing. Hope to have some good discussions with you fellas.
