  2. I know this has been answered and stuff but thanks again for the h105 suggestion. That thing is an amazing cooler with the easiest heatsink installation I have ever seen. +1 just for that. As for anyone else who ran by this post I will give you some tips. The h105 has a fat radiator however I WAS able to fit it in my R4 with a asus maximums hero vii and trident x ram. It is not the prettiest fit in the world, but I was able to cram it in there with the fans in a pull direction.
  3. Thanks so much guys, you are both super helpful! I do not feel so bad anymore, off to get a h105.
  4. CPU - 4790k MOBO - Asus Maximus Hero VII GPU - GTX 970 So I purchased a H220 about a year ago when I thought I would build a machine but ended up never getting around to it. Finally black Friday came and I built a pc and was able to use the H220. Temps were fine and I had long gaming sessions with games like Far Cry 3/4 and Borderlands 2. Last night I was playing BL2 and my game started to lag. I have a GTX 970 so it shouldn't be graphical lag so I just decided to check temps using CIUD, or whatever its called. It showed that all 4 of my cores were running at 100 Celsius. That is not good. So I shut her down. The reboot said cpu fan failure so I opened up the case and the pump was hot. I heard no noise coming from it and it was not vibrating, so first thought is dead pump. When I took off the pump, I noticed that I probably put a little too much thermal paste when I installed it and some was on the side of the die and a little was on the seating mechanism. TL:DR pc lag in game, high cpu temps, pump died on cpu, replaced with stock, might have had too much thermal paste. My questions are: Would the too much thermal paste lead to a dead pump? My understanding is "absolutely not" but I could be wrong. What could have caused a bad pump? Caused is the question, not I just got a bad one. I put on the stock 4790k cooler and I get high temps, what are the standard temps under load and idle for stock? Suggest me a new AIO cooler please. I am feeling a H220x. There is no budget but it needs to fit in a Fractal Define R4 with the mobo.
  5. I figured a comment about the i7 would show up. Both of you are correct, the i5 is a much better choice for the money. However, Arma 3 can use hyper threading, and I like to play it. I also want to assume more games will come out in the future that will use more hyperthreading functions so its a dumb gamble. I completely understand the 4690k, but I am choosing another route at the moment. As for the PSU, I know seasonic makes great PSU's. Top notch stuff. EVGA makes comparable at a lesser cost. Thanks for the mobo recommendations. And that ssd... It is too much, I know. Reasons? not sure if i have any other than want is greater than need.
  6. I have posted a build many times but i am finally doing it. Mainly because I am forcing myself to upgrade. Up for suggestions however. Budget/Location: $1800 USD/Texas (near a microcenter) os and cpu cooler I already own Aim: Maxing out 1080p gaming Monitors: 2 screens total. Main screen will be an Asus VG248QE, will be buying but it is not in the build/budget. 2nd screen is some 21in LG garbage ive had for years, just used for simple things. Only will game on the Asus. Peripherals: I have the keyboard, mouse, headset, and junk taken care of Why: Standard sob story about a boy who is trying to game on an old laptop from 2008 and wants something more because he can now. This time it is no more talk and actual doing and the first time I will get to game on 1080p. Build is there: http://pcpartpicker.com/user/soggyfatman/saved/dxG2FT PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant CPU: Intel Core i7-4790K 4.0GHz Quad-Core Processor ($280.00) CPU Cooler: Swiftech H220 55.0 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler Motherboard: Asus MAXIMUS VII HERO ATX LGA1150 Motherboard ($180.00) Memory: G.Skill Ripjaws X Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3-1866 Memory ($159.99 @ NCIX US) Storage: Samsung 850 Pro Series 512GB 2.5" Solid State Drive ($364.99 @ Amazon) Storage: Seagate Barracuda 3TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($101.46 @ OutletPC) Video Card: Gigabyte GeForce GTX 970 4GB WINDFORCE Video Card ($368.99 @ NCIX US) Case: Fractal Design Define R4 (Black Pearl) ATX Mid Tower Case ($99.99 @ Directron) Power Supply: SeaSonic 750W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply ($139.99 @ Newegg) Operating System: Microsoft Windows 8.1 Pro - 64-bit (OEM) (64-bit) (Purchased For $0.00) Total: $1695.41 Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available Generated by PCPartPicker 2014-11-19 11:58 EST-0500 Will pick up cpu and mobo at microcenter for cheaper prices because of combo deal going on. I know the cpu is too much for gaming but the idea is that a cpu and mobo are the hardest parts to upgrade on a build so why not go big now when I have the money. Open for suggestion on the mobo though, i know its pricey but its a solid board. Idea is to go with 1080p gaming for now and wait for better priced 1440p or 4k screens to come out and then sli the 970 or get a new card. the ssd is too much i know but i want it!!! I may just go the 1tb route... Can anyone suggest another psu? i would have gone with the evga g2 850w (http://pcpartpicker.com/part/evga-power-supply-220g20850xr) but its size is too long for a 140mm bottom fan mount in the r4. I will probably be getting the r5 anyhow so the case purchase will wait as long as any extra fans and potentially the psu.
  7. I agree with you to a point. However it is not easy to compare a game from the past based on ui, graphics, and sound to current games. Of course the new stuff is technically better because the technology is there. So you have to look at it at a much larger picture. You can claim nostalgia sure, but some games were just well made and fun. It would be like comparing movies.
  8. I had the exact same thought and did some research. I never read those comments at the bottom lol.
  9. You are right, but 3d realms was under the name apogee software when they distributed the game. this is actually one of the comments below the article.
  10. He is our savior. The only shining light in the black hole of developers that just want to pump out cookie cutter games and not try. Duke is King.
  11. For those of you who do not know the King, for shame. How dare you consider yourself a part of the pcmasterrace if you do not know your history! Get your learn on here: https://3drealms.com/news/3d_realms-is-back/ The Duke Nukem franchise is one of the greatest, if not the greatest, series ever created. He has been iconic and a staple in every gaming library with his babe saving, pig cop killing, and catchy phrased games. http://www.tomshardware.com/news/3d-realms-anthology-duke-nukem-wolfenstein-pc-gaming,27951.html This is great news to the pc world. 3d Realms is starting again with some fresh faces. Now they did do a lot more than Duke, there was Commander Keen, Shadow Warrior, Wolfenstein 3d, and all sorts of other goodies. With these new faces, I dream of a future where we go back to our roots and prove there is more to life than what is coming out now. A simpler time indeed where we had health bars and no ammo clips. And 3d was just a sprite that rotated. It should also be noted that the team has some original members and is not just some chumps jumping in. The tiny optimistic child part inside of me says "oooo yay! they will care!" but the much larger realistic part says "oh great, they will not stay true to themselves and try and match the garbage that is out now" However, I do have faith. I swear if this turns in to a "Duke Nukem Forever was a terrible game" thread I will break off your head and shit down your throat.
  12. If the hyper threading will help, then use it! Also, would you be so kind as to use the website pcpartpicker.com to build this? We can see prices and stuff. It also helps you too in the build.
  13. Or at least make Battlefield 2143... I miss you so much Titan Mode and Pilum sniping.
  14. Lets say new batman game comes out, or platformer, I like to use a controller for those games. And I would like nice graphics. Also, if was to go to a friends house we would play things like star citizen or rome total war get drunk and be silly. I want this thing to play games well. I really appreciate all the builds but I want to use my h220 i have sitting new in the box in this pc with a loop that includes the gpu.
