  1. The old rule of thumb was double the amount of ram you have. But with larger amounts of ram, for most people this is just wasteful, Unless you want to utilise hibernation. Redhat has a recommendation table: https://access.redhat.com/documentation/en-US/Red_Hat_Enterprise_Linux/6/html/Installation_Guide/s2-diskpartrecommend-ppc.html Which for 24gb of ram would mean: At least 4GB's unless you want hibernation in which case its 1.5x your RAM = 36GB. Edit: I remember reading Arch Linux's install manual years ago, it had recommended to use local when dual booting (I don't so I didn't care). Looking at their wiki now the answer is a little more complex. An recommends using UTC and making a registry change in windows depending on the version of windows being run. https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/time#UTC_in_Windows

  3. I live in Western Sydney NSW. I ordered a Ducky Shine 3 from pccasegear (Melbourne) It took about 3-5 days~ and cost $13 from memory.can't remember exactly it was over a year ago now. As someone else said you may live near a PC parts store. I have ARC locally, they have 5 stores in NSW. 90% of stuff I get from them, usually they're around the same price as pccasegear they just have a smaller range of products but I was told by someone working there that they will order in items they don't usually stock upon request with a deposit. If you prefer dealing locally.
  4. Already exists: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Optimus_Maximus_keyboard
  5. I never understood why people care about back lighting at all. But apparently a lot of people do. I played with all the settings of my Ducky Shine 3 when I first got it, but by the end of the day I turned all back lighting / effects off and haven't turned them on since. People seem to really love lights. In a couple years I'm sure RGB willl be just another tick box feature, its not going away.
  6. Well I like blue so that's great but the features I've wanted for a very long time have finally been added. Flag DLC I already own so I don't have to click through on each one to see if I own it. Flag games I already own in Weekly sales / specials / top sellers list. About time...
  7. Probably, not 100% sure of the capacity of that drive. But it was quite a few years ago now and It was a notorious issue, Seagate had a tool on their site that let you enter the serial number off a drive to see if it was affected. I remember checking a heap of drives, soon as I realised it was a known issue. Only 1 of mine was confirmed as affected by that particular bug tho.
  8. DOA or died pre-maturely. 1x Logitech G35 Headset (1 week) 1x Cheap ass external drive enclosure (Died after maybe 2 hours of use) 1x Gigabyte motherboard (DOA It was so obvious it had previously been returned to the store faulty and put back on the shelf for re-sale....) 1x Dlink NIC (DOA) 5x Seagate HDDs (Purchased individually, some years apart. Different models / capacities / firmware. All met a premature end. I know at least one was due to buggy firmware, it died within 2 weeks and the firmware issue became well known. Due to this bad experience I haven't touched Seagate drives since.... Still very bitter. I now only use Western Digital, not a single failure, I do know people who have the exact opposite experience but until WD piss me off, they've got my money).

Or: http://www.officeworks.com.au/shop/officeworks/stackable-drawers-single-owstaksing http://www.officeworks.com.au/shop/officeworks/stackable-drawers-twin-owstaktwn My sister just uses in / out trays. They do have single drawer filing cabinets in case you were unaware and have the room on your desk.
  10. 1800 my mouse goes up to 5600. Don't see the need to increase it any further.
  11. 1x Cheap set of precision screwdrivers (Obvious) 1x Cable punch (For connecting CAT5/6 to a wall plate) 1x Pair of needle nose pliers (Useful for reaching cables in the wall for example) 1x Good set of side cutters (Cutting cables to length, its much smoother than using the cutter on the pliers) 2x Rolls of electrical tape (Temp patch work on a cable until it can be replaced, temp tie something back, also a great band-aid) 1x 2m Ethernet cable (Testing purposes) 1x Pack of cable ties (Hold stuff back all neat and tidy out of the way of the fan blades) 1x Nail scissors (Cutting cable ties, nice and small, gets into tight spots) 2x Guitar picks (Used for opening the plastic cases on electronics that are not held together by screws, you can push the tabs back so it comes apart without scratching up the case. Basically its a easier to source version of this https://www.ifixit.com/Store/Tools/Plastic-Opening-Tools/IF145-000 ) 1x 16gb USB drive with useful stuff (Malwarebytes, AVG, HWMonitor, CrystalDiskInfo, Some burn-in fixer thingy, manuals, etc) 2x SATA cables (Testing purposes) 1x IDE Cable (Testing purposes) 1x CD folder full of Operating Systems 1x Nexus 7 (A working device to google something or take notes or play with while you wait for something else to complete)
  12. Zilog Z80 @ 1.774 Mhz what is this dedicated Graphics Processing Unit you speak of....
  13. Everyday. Never understood why you'd want to keep a PC on just for the sake of it, no matter how cheap the electricity is, I have solar panels and I still turn it off. If your PC is doing something, folding, downloading or something like that sure, leave it on, but otherwise... why? It's just a waste.

  15. Sounds like stack ranking... only the people voting don't have all the information. <rant> If I was a moderator and the position was taken away due to popularity, I'd be pissed. I wouldn't even put my hand up to be put in such a situation. I've been a mod on forums before, its a thankless job. You have a valid reason to ban someone, you take action, but they're more popular than you.. Their friends create threads complaining how someone was banned for "no reason" or that "a few mistakes doesn't take away years of being a good member" (it does), they don't know the facts, just that their friend said they were banned unfairly. They start demanding evidence, you lock the thread because its against the rules to create a thread to complain about a ban. They continually create more and more threads, you ban them and hope that is the end of it, but some idiots see that as proof of over zealous banning. "He was just asking a question"... Sometimes you'll even get arguments between moderators because you banned their friend for breaking the rules continually or that "they would've warned them at least twice more before banning" Sometimes it seems like you just can't win. On crap forums where the owner no longer gives a shit, I've seen bans overturned because "They create a lot of good topics, that make for a more active forum" never mind the sexual harassment constant trolling and threats its cool, he makes threads! *walks away* </rant> Every forum I've been a mod on has a clear set of rules for the forum and a list of actions to be taken if someone breaks a given rule. If a rule is broken no matter by who, something is done (at least on good forums). They have also had codes of conduct for mods to follow that are generally even more rules of behaviour for mods as you should set a higher example as a mod. If you complain about something and nothing is done about it, its probably because the mod acted within the rules. On forum's I've moderated, when a complaint is made through proper channels all moderators see it, a decision is made on if a rule was broken, what action to take and ultimately there is a forum admin (usually the owner) who has final say, they usually leave it to us but if something is serious or action taken wasn't deemed appropriate the admin takes control. Adding another layer of shit to a already shitty job (at times) no... just no.
