I would run a VM hosting OS, with a web server VM and you could setup Windows network sharing on another VM (but you may as well go big at that point with a NAS VM).

LTT has high end (and quite expensive) enterprise grade equipment. I don't know specifics, but I would assume most, if not all, of their servers run server grade Xeons.

If you don't need a lot of storage, a regular PC will be perfectly capable of doing everything you need. A cheap used Dell Optiplex or a cheap brand new system should have plenty of power and upgradability for a simple server setup.

If you need a fair bit of storage, you can get dedicated NAS boxes that don't do much more than hold drives. Or if you have cash burning a hole in your pocket, you could try to find a deal on an ancient, used actual server.

You could create a new VHD in the windows 10 disk management (More actions -> Create VHD) then restore the image to there. From there you could either mount the vhd in the VM and boot, or simply mount it in Win10 and browse to the files you need.

LTT is just a front. @LinusTech is one of the world's leading RGB lobbyists and is in the pocket of Big RGB.

    Much appreciated.

We figure if even a fraction of a percent cares this much about us and what we're doing we can make this platform work and further reduce our reliance on Our Benevolent Overlord...

    LTT has 4.67 million subscribers.

If we assume a conservative 30% of them are over the age of 18, that leaves:
    1.4 million subscribers.

If we assume a very conservative 1% of those over the age of 18:
    1. Have a job, and
    2. Are willing to pay a subscription fee for benefits

That still leaves a potential 140,000 subscribers for FPC.

So, yeah. The whole point of FPC is not that a user will subscribe to every channel on the platform. They will instead subscribe to their favourite one or two channels. This is essentially Patreon but better.

    The benefits of FPC include:
    1. Early videos
    2. Potentially exclusive content/videos
    3. Much higher quality video over YouTube
    4. Ability to download files for offline viewing
    5. Private subforum for subscribers to chat, etc

And those benefits will probably only get better over time.

If you don't value those things? Cool! That's why we have choice and free will You can continue to use YouTube like you've always done.

But the fact that you think it's greedy, is frankly, illogical.

Consider a Twitch sub is $5/month and you get even less benefits compared to FPC.

Ok here is GoodByte's secret sauce on how to become a mod. SHHUuut Don't tell any mods!
You need to be of age greater than 13 years old. This is Canada, the forum is in Canada, and so the governmental rules applies. You need to fill in the form 13B yellow on Linus Media Group site. To get this form, you need to fill in 7B Green form. This after the Orange 7B Yellow form, not to be confused with the Orange 7B Yellow form on Yellow paper. The paper of that form is actually Green. And no, its not the 7B Green form mentioned earlier.  The 13B yellow form is to request to be a mod. Never request to be a mod. You need to send a mod, bonus points if its me, at you full expense, a GeForce GTX 1080 Ti reference design or better (backed with multiple reviews. Minus points for using Linus as a source... as it is too easy). The graphics card model changes every now and then without warning. A large water fountain to a mod with installation service, to be place in the front of a mods home (again, bonus points if send to me... hey I don't make the rules...) Larger the water fountain the better. A 8K OLED 32inch wide gamut, with HDR and Nvidia G-Sync support with a programmable 14bit LUT and 12-bit color processor, 1.07 billion color . You can pick the model and brand. Again, this changes without notice. Bonus points if you send it to SansVarnic, but I recommend to send it to me... for complex reasons. Now, after all this is completed within 1 week. your name will be put into a hat, and burned to ashes with the hat. The remains are put into another hat, and then it gets incinerated. Once done, we collect the left overs and put into another hat.. and if we pick anything but dust... and it happens to be your name that is fully and easily readable by me, you MAY be a mod.

It's real easy. we all did this.
