  1. $1500 USD seems overkill unless you are buying a gaming laptop... I would buy a $750 laptop now and spend the other $750 two years down the road. Electrical engineering does not need GPU horsepower, and if you are taking notes on it, get something with a good stylus
  2. Not digging that 5.5 inch screen
  3. I'd take the tablet and the phone... I only game at home and I have my desktop for that
  4. Oh I have that exact one that I've been using for two years, no problems whatsoever. Don't know how it stacks up to the more recent drives in terms of numbers but I personally go for reliability in storage and the Intel drives are one of the most reliable ones out there
  5. That's what I was thinking... The chances of your account being one of them is so low, don't think I'm that lucky
  6. Measured 16/5 on Telus... Paying $40 a month but we also have phone/tv bundled so it comes to $105 every month. We used to switch between Telus and Shaw to take advantage of the new customer promo which comes to about $70/month but that requires signing up and getting the technician to come set us up every six months, it's just too much hassle. Also decided to stop going back to Shaw after a wonderful experience with one of their customer service rep talking back to me, at least the Telus reps call me 'sir'...
  7. I'd build a dedicated machine to watch LTT on YouTube.... It shall be used for no other purpose.
  8. I am surprised that Acer is 4th... pretty sure I've seen more Macbooks than Acer laptops back in university
  9. I agree with you. Historically, the first of many technology is way too expensive for a majority of the consumers. It will take time for them to figure out how to lower the cost but when it happens, it's gonna be awesome.
  10. You can probably buy the parts separately for cheaper, but at this point, I think the extra cost for the packaged deal is worth it because you know these parts will play nice with each other and the tutorials that it comes with are written for people just like you. Good luck man, and remember to have fun! =)
  11. Yeah it should be fine. I can't remember exactly but Intel's SSD's are rated for something like 40-50 Gb per day over the warranty period. I assume the other manufacturers are in a similar ballpark? But yes, compared to HDD's they do have less write cycles before the media starts to wear out. However, I feel safer with SSD's in laptop because you'd be moving the thing around and the mechanical HDD is susceptible to bumps. My friend had his laptop in a bag and he accidentally bumped it against a table and he lost all his data on the HDD!
  12. Hmm so here I am thinking of my next build being 2-way SLI + PCIe SSD. So I can do 8x 8x and still have 12 lanes for whatever else I decide to run. I know PCIe SSD's aren't really a thing yet, but hopefully something exciting will happen in SSD land by the time I get frustrated with my current Sandy Bridge build and go for a refresh
  13. Haha thanks for the welcoming Don't worry, I will try not to!
  14. I haven't really paid much attention to his comments section on YouTube nor his forum so I can't comment on that. But I do agree that his personality in his videos may offend some people. I had a prof in university like him; he swears in class, makes jokes, and BS a lot so a lot of people absolutely hated him. But me and a few others loved it, maybe it's an acquired taste. I do like kinda Elric's music though
