Should be fine for now but if you upgrade the GPU later then get a better PSU.

Plenty of power, not heard of it before but if your friends had no issues then go for it, i guess.

Please elaborate. I'm not talking about power bill. I'm talking about the efficiency of his PSU. How much of the power draw will escape as heat. If his system requires 200W and the PSU is 80% efficient then the wall supplies 250W with 50W being heat going into the air. Power bill will rarely be affected by 80+ ratings.

Edit: Best efficiency for most PSU's are at the 50% mark and you want to account for lost energy.

I wrote the guide on 80 PLUS efficiency that's pinned on this subforum (also in my signature) if you want some more info on how that actually works

You should look at getting a PSU in your price range that is of sufficient build quality and provides enough wattage that has the features you want. Efficiency and 80 PLUS ratings should have nothing to do with your decision as long as they've reached an 80 PLUS rating as some sort of correlation to build quality.

Go back to PC partpicker and look for the wattage calculator on your build page. Take that number and divide by the efficiency you''re looking for.
Example: 200W x .85 = 235W Get a power supply with 235W as the middle of its wattage. Which would be 450-500W.

Look at the wattage figure PCPartPicker gives you, then add 100W or 10% to it, whichever is greater. That's the wattage your PSU should provide.
learned something here today. thanks man

Probably won't set anything on fire, but I'd get a better PSU if possible.
Look at the wattage figure PCPartPicker gives you, then add 100W or 10% to it, whichever is greater. That's the wattage your PSU should provide. If you think you might upgrade to a better processor or GPU in the future, be sure to factor that into your calculations. Once you know what that wattage is, post it here along with your PSU budget and we'll throw a few suggestions your way.

Don't cheap out on your PSU or buy a used one. I've had a damn-near brand new PSU go out and take an i7-4790K and an ASUS Z97 mobo with it.

If you're still buying I would get something a little lower. About 350W. Unless you're planning to upgrade the GPU in which case stay with the 500W.
