You won't need a Amp or DAC to power 380 pro's about almost all on-board will power them fine. Take the money you were going to spend on a amp or dac and add it to your headphone fund

Haha well put, I already said this earlier today but
    Headphones > amp > dac > power management > files > environment > cables

Well I do believe that the quality of electricity being supplied is important and a lot of power conditioners can protect against power surges.
Though power conditioners are pretty much glorified power strips, they do serve importance to some extent.

A friend's band have a small home studio and power conditioners have saved them big time before.
But for the average person with a desktop amp and a pair of headphones not so much.

Sort of subjective in my eyes.

Depending on your speakers you could do this
Get a power off/on remote switch connected to your speaker power cord from your speakers to turn them on or off remotely when not using them

Also you said you were looking at getting your cable clipped and soldered from a guitar shop, word of advice take it to a small guitar or music shop not guitar center. I work at a guitar center and we don't do any soldering of equipment on stuff that isn't damaged and purchased from us, they'll do it to fix something you bought from them. But I know other smaller music stores in my area that will do it usually for not that much.

Yea try the place that fixed your bass, I know a guy that works at a small shop and all he does is setup instruments, and fix stuff all day

True let me revise that haha,
    Headphone > amp > power management > dac > files > cables
I would also throw in environment in there somewhere around dac and files

+1 a lot of musicians use 240's so if you went to somewhere like guitar center or checked on musicians friend you should be able to find one.
Nice pick up by the way I really want a vintage pair of 240's

Not sure what the original size is for the stock cable but here is a 1.5m(just under 5 ft) replacement from ebay:http://www.ebay.com/itm/1-5m-New-Replacement-Audio-upgrade-Cable-For-AKG-Q701-K702-K271s-240s-Headphones-/310698989813

Okay well just because someone wants one thing doesn't mean that's the best they could get for their money. And just because someone isn't an audophile doesn't mean you can't have nice high quality headphones, that A: Cost less than a pair of Astro's and B: Sound undoubtedly better than Astro's'

First off, I don't know of many open wireless headphones or headsets.

Alright I try not to complain but people need to start posting budgets with these topics, and sorry but next person to recommend Astro's I'm going to literally smack through the internet.
Get a pair of wireless Sennheiser's and a usb microphone, not sure why you want wireless though, I would rather get a pair of 990's or something. Assuming you have a decent budget go with this

If you really want open get this
    RS180's: http://www.amazon.com/Sennheiser-Digital-Wireless-Headphone-System/dp/B002TLT10S/ref=pd_sim_e_8
    and get a usb microphone.
    Snowflake USB: http://www.amazon.com/Blue-Microphones-Snowflake-USB-Microphone/dp/B0012AUHXW/ref=sr_1_9?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1379388028&sr=1-9&keywords=USB+microphone

If you want to save some money and are willing to go closed get a pair of RS160's
    RS160: http://www.amazon.com/Sennheiser-160-Digital-Wireless-Headphones/dp/B002SOU2Y0/ref=pd_sim_e_7

If you are willing to not go wireless get a pair of 990 pros: http://www.amazon.com/Beyerdynamic-AMS-DT-990-Pro-250-Professional-Acoustically-Applications/dp/B0011UB9CQ/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1379388317&sr=1-1&keywords=DT990

GodIsAnAstronaut reacted to Mogwai in Do I need a sound card???
Usually on forums when someone says DAC they mean External, not some half ass sound card that ain't worth the money, and now a days isn't much better than on-board on a lot of motherboards. You aren't going to get the same sound quality or power with a STX and something like a HDVA 600, no way no how. If you think that than you don't know what you are talking about, and what is a good pair of cans to you? IF someone is using a HDVA 600 they are going to most likely being using some high end stuff; lets say HD800 or LCD-2's, If you think for one second that you are going to be able to adequately power them with a sound card you are sadly mistaken. Sound cards are irrelevant and will never be able to compete with external DACs.

True, I really like the sleekness and beauty of macs but I wouldn't really want to buy one, I could just build a sleek and faster PC and dual boot windows and OSX

I've picked up a few Yamaha red label acoustics from pawn shops over the years really cheap and they were great. Wish I kept one of them. I bought some off brand classical guitar from a pawnshop once for $30 and it played great. Moral of the story pawn shops are awesome

That one on the right looks so nice man. you play?
I'm trying to off my Japanese 72' reissue strat right now, really looking to buy another Taylor haha. I bought a Taylor 414 back in November of last year, I ended up selling my D-18 afterwards. Before that Taylor the only acoustics I played were Martins, not the case anymore I could talk about instruments all day

To my knowledge there's a good amount of work here in the States, but I don't want a career where I'm constantly looking for work, you know what I mean? Also I don't want to be mixing or producing any horrible music I don't like . Might go into something with electrical engineering, I would love to build guitars that would be my dream job especially if they are Taylors
I work at a music store right now, but there are so many idiot people that come in and plug in $2000 guitars and can only play 3 chords...I'm currently looking for a new store to work at

I think people have this misconception about all professionals using Macs haha. Whether it be Video editing, Graphic Design, DJing, Mixing, etc.
I don't DJ or mix music, but I would take a PC over a Mac, though I really like how OSX looks

Not all studios use Macs, I've only been in 2 different studios before. Neither of them using Mac.

GodIsAnAstronaut reacted to Mogwai in Any chance of seeing these 5.1 speakers on sale for $50 on Black Friday or Boxing Day somewhere ?
I sure as hell wouldn't haha. The only thing I would even set surround up for would be my TV, and if I did I wouldn't buy no all-in-one box set surround sound setup
I'm tired of people trying to get 5.1 or 7.1 surround under $100, no offense but it's highly unlikely and will most likely sound bad...

No offense, this was completely wrong...If your headphones need more power you DO NOT, I REPEAT, DO NOT buy a sound card for the love of God.
All you people out there who have spent $200+ on a soundcard should be ashamed.

IF You want better audio get a FiiO E10, or if you can afford it O2+ODAC, or even just get the O2 and plug it into your on-board.
