You can tell someone has too much free time when they complain about a YouTuber's personality.

I don't find he jokes too much. Hell, he isn't even in that many videos, and if he's the main person in the video, he'll generally stay on-topic and serious.

Those are absolutely dogshit drives. I fucking hate them with a passion.

Try moving the games to your SSD. I suspect the HDD is at fault.

Most corps buy through special channels and thus get weird configs (to us normal consumers). Just something to be aware of for OP.

Minor point here but I've seen a lot of corporate configs with no internal battery and a plastic dummy in its place. This goes for any battery bridge Thinkpad.

Used Thinkpad is a very solid choice. That might be a bit tight for an 8th gen CPU, but you could probably find a complete (if rough) T480 for that. Make it a habit of checking newly listed BIN listings as well as ending soon auctions. Might take a few days but you can probably get one for $150.

"That's also why we brought in an experienced manager, Terren, who is off-site this week or I would have brought him in to chat with you guys as well"
Not a lot of room for interpretation there.

If you wanna see how to handle a massive mistake in the same space, look up "CGP Grey was wrong" on youtube. That's also how actual journalists (not people who publish glorified ads like the 3090 8K video) do it. They issue a retraction.

The rest isn't even worth replying.

Excuse me, do you mean to tell me that Terren, who's now supposed to run the company, the fly on the wall, hasn't been on site on the single most crucial week of your business (7:11 in the video)?

I haven't logged in here to dogpile at all even though this controversy has basically shot LTT's crediblity in my eyes, but come on! How am I supposed to believe he's nothing but a figurehead now?

From what I'm seeing, this is an extremely polished script, but one that doesn't do it for me personally. At all. If anything it makes it worse.
    - Zero addressing of stuff like the Short Circuit reviews-that-aren't-reviews (so it's okay if we call an ENTIRE company's products just "good" uncritically). This is really bad, because SC videos do influence customer decisions, even though you pretend they don't and are glorified unboxings. That's BS. I myself relied on them, naively.
    - ECC Squad is exploiting free volunteer work.
    - Renewed focus on in-person meetings, for example. Or, in other words, making it impossible to work remotely again. Bad for the employees.
    - Stealth replacing videos does not notify the bulk of the people that saw the erroneous content on release. Video corrections don't work if you're not paying attention. Both are easy copouts. There need to be more severe actions.
    - The entire HR section of the video is a complete fluff piece, followed by an appeal to emotion. Yuck.

I find it highly amusing that all Linus does is go "see how happy my employees are", providing some numbers all the while forgetting that the whole reason people are angry is because people don't trust their numbers.

And them showing how many people leave the company... I don't know, I had a dead-end job once I couldn't leave because I had no better alternatives. So I spend 3 years doing a job I didn't like. Where I'm going is that bosses thinking their employees must enjoy their workspace because they don't leave is presumptious at best.

As to their HR remarks... My dead-end job also had an external HR company, but that does not equal better transparancy or protection. Like in my case when my external HR company had an active policy of "you complain? You must be named" and if your complaints were hitting too close to comfort, you were sanctioned or even fired like when someone exposed the huge wage gap between starters.

Not saying this happens at LMG, but the way they formulate their video going "look how good things are at LMG" and making their initial kneejerk reaction last week makes my sceptical brain work overtime.

That said, it's time to move on. No point beating a dead horse. I hope they fulfill their promises or risk facing another round of social media drama.

Why would she make up all that? For attention? She's a streamer with pretty decent following. She doesn't need drama of this sort, especially since drama isn't her shtick from what I can see.

kelvinhall05 got a reaction from TimedPing in Best handheld PC & console overall design & practicality (a subjective disscusion).
Smaller devices like the PSP/Vita (and I'll even throw in the DS family) are objectively superior for portability. Personally, I find the DS Lite to be exceptionally comfortable to use, even for extended duration (I have little to no experience with the PSP). I've also tried a Switch and Steam Deck, and found the former to be uncomfortable (especially for games requiring both analog sticks), where as the Deck was just excellent all around. That being said, it is quite big and unweildy. Still portable, but my personal definition of portable is "can I slip it in a pocket and forget about it", which it obviously does not fit.

However, beyond physical design, the value proposition of the Deck is unmatched; both the raw hardware as well as the excellent software tying it together. Hell, I'm tempted to get my own, but given that I pretty much only play TF2 these days, I don't think it's the right device for me.

Hey y'all, I know that this thread has been kind of semi-active and up in the air for a while.
I've dealt with a range of feelings about myself for most of my life, and moving out really enabled me to look inwards and examine what I truly wanted.

While it's been a grueling road at times, I'm pleased to say that I'm starting HRT in a couple weeks and I couldn't be happier. This thread has always been wholesome and I love it for that.

kelvinhall05 reacted to LucySpectre in Female representation in the LMG & the tech media sphere
Considering the number of videos uploaded by all the associated channels, the ratio female representation on display is low. Very low.

You could point to a small handful of videos that feature guests or irregular staff members. But they are distinct outliers.

Having worked in IT for the past 15 years or more I've seen the real world representation of women in the tech industry. Whilst it's clearly skewed towards guys, the ratio of female representation seen in LMG videos is far from being indicative of the female representation in the industry.

To compound this lack of representation the women that do appear on screen are seldom if ever shown as positive and competent tech role models. They're shown as people learning or damsels in tech distress. Yvonne is clearly an exception to this, and if I need to explain why then you're already way behind.

Overall tech media is a sausagefest and the attitude often found on forums and in youtube video comment sections exacerbates the situation with an over arching attitude that the only women we should see on our screens should be approripately aesthetically pleasing and/or non-threatening.

I'll be very clear that this is not a request for representation on the screen to meet arbitrary quotas for the sake of it, so you stop reaching for that pitch fork right now.

As a leader in the representation of the tech community online, I would hope that LMG consider the representation of their female staff and the female guests that they bring on and choose to steer away from the tired stereotypes that women are tarred with in the tech sphere and choose to show their female audience that they can be as capable and confident with tech as the boys are.

Honestly I feel sorry for Colton and Luke for having to say those things in front of a camera. James is a natural actor so his integrity is on an appropriate level. The rest are just paid to be a fig leaf. Putting his wife as an attempt to soften the perception is imo just a CRUDE manipulation.
