Flamin_Noonga got a reaction from onevoicewild in Corsair 900D Unforgiven - The Metallica Build
You know that feeling you get when you finish your favorite tv show that you've been watching non stop for the past month? The lost feeling - that you don't know what to do with your life anymore? That's what I'm getting. A truly amazing build. It's awesome to see it finally completed but also so sad. Congratulations mate on creating such a masterpiece.

I know what you mean. when your in a build everyone is saying ( I can't wait to see you finish this) I can, then I have to find something else to do. It's been a great ride. I'll have to start doing some promoting in different circles to help pay back my sponsors, but I enjoy that anyway. Thanks guys!

@onevoicewild: You do realize that it's against the forum rules to post porn on
this site?
Seriously though, nice going so far, very much looking forward to the rest of this.

I almost hate seeing builds like this, simply because the sheer amount of unadulterated BADASSNESS makes me think of how bland and boring my own rig is, and how woefully untalented I am to even consider any significant modding. I can make it look clean, but nothing even remotely close the level of dedication, quality, and awesome being dumped into this, and many other builds.
I offer the most bitter, jealous, and sincere "Fantastic Job!" that any human being is capable of giving. Would sell my soul for a work of art like this.

now for the front panel
I had to do it more than 3 designs and apply it on the front panel over and over just to get what really satisfy my taste.
looks like an ironman case. not good.
2nd attempt. fail again.
and last attempt.

now for the side panel design.
my concept art.
now for the execution
looks succesful but the sidepanels aren't friendly
so I decided to make my own sidepanel but making it from acryllic
looks much better. we'll see much more of it later.

Now let's head on to converting this case to 90 deg rotated mobo tray.
First is to cut a big hole on the top and test where to actually set the mounting for motherboard.
ooking good. now let's try to mod the motherboard itself.
since it will be "Dark Knight" it will be a requirement to use all black parts as possible and to achieve that I really wanted to try to paint the motherboard to see if it's really possible.
i used an asus Sabertooth 990FX board for this build since it will be my PC for work.
removed the stickers
then masked all the other parts, and painted it!
and recorded a video if it will explode or will work

a short recap of the build log Hello everyone, some of you maybe familiar with me and to this build. It's already done after a year. Finally! But I want to share to you some quick worklog for this build. So you'll have a better idea how I made the Dark Knight PC. I started last year when I got one of the first batch of the COSMOS II last October 2011 but actually started posting on January 2012. after that, I suddenly had the Idea to remove the handle bars to make it more sexier. and the Idea came out. (early photoshop concept art) after a while. The Dark Knight idea grew in me. another concept art 90 deg rotated motherboard concept art for the side panel and concept art for the rear panel

Flamin_Noonga reacted to F.A.T. in First Scratch Build - ECS MODMEN CONTEST
Since being a goldsmith has not so much to do with making a computer, I have been busy making a piece of jewellery I could wear at the computex ;) . A silver keyboard ring with my initials on it. If you would like to see how I work as a goldsmith....again.... just scroll down ;) !
I made a wax ‘Ideal’ keyboard key and casted in brass. Then I made a rubber mould and made more wax keys.
These keys were casted in silver, so you can mass produce silver keys ;) !
Here you can see the casts.
This is what I want to engrave.
First finish the keys.
My logo.
I still had 3 tiny diamonds which I will set in the ring.
Here you can see different surface techniques.
I have enneald the silver so I can bend the material easily
Then bend the silver and solder it together.
To make the ring round you have to hammer it.
To make the backside of the ring more interesting I have stamped my initials in the silver plate.
First I started with drawing on my logo. I made a ‘light’ engraving with my milling tool (sort of dremel).
To cut away the logo I used a engraving tool.
These 2 elements will be the frame of the ring, I will have to solder them together.
A silver plate that goes across the gap so the keys will stay in place when I lay them on, and solder them.
After you solder the silver there are a lot of oxides, so I always use a chemical to clean the material. It makes the silver look snow white.
Cut away the extra material.
One of the diamonds, they are so tiny!
Soldering everything together.
I wanted the letters and my logo to stand out more, so I used a chemical which makes the silver go black. If you sand the material afterwards the lower parts will not be schratched so will stay black.
Now only finishing and than set the stones.
And the final result!!!!
Hope you like it!
I also made a few goodies with me to Taiwan to hand out to people there. It was a very interesting day ;) !
The lasercutter.
First a few testplates.
The real stuff ;) !
The lasercut goodies :)
Interesting day :D !
I’m very happy with how the build turned out! If I would have had more time and knowledge that I now have, I would have perfected it.
But I’m already thinking about my next project, so maybe soon there will be a new buildlog ;) !

Flamin_Noonga reacted to LinusTech in AMD Mantle vs NVidia G-SYNC
I might as well weigh in on this since I tweeted this as a discussion topic:
Mantle:
- Unproven
- Requires no new hardware if you already have a GCN (7000+) card
- Requires developer support (but we know that at least some is coming)
- Unknown performance improvement over non-Mantle
- Takes time to implement, limited compatibility with existing hardware and fragments market, which will be a major barrier
- No support for existing titles unless ported in after the fact
- Potentially makes Linux gaming more feasible
G-Sync:
- Requires Kepler GPU (600 series or better)
- Requires new hardware on monitor side of things (but not that expensive to implement compared to existing scaler hardware)
- Does not require developer support & supports pretty much your entire existing library of games.
- Proven performance. Holy crap does it ever make a big difference. I'd rather play 50FPS with G-Sync than 80FPS with tearing from what I saw. Seriously..
- Requires hardware manufacturer support (at least some is coming, but not from A+ players like Samsung. I saw Philips, ASUS, BenQ, and Viewsonic on the list...)-
I'll discuss this more on the WAN Show this week, but let me put it this way. To all of the folks saying any of the following about G-Sync:
- a useless features
- can't convince me that lower framerates can look better
- snake oil
You just don't understand the technology here fully. This is ABSOLUTELY game-changing. It makes a HUGE difference. Enormous. Earth-shattering. Not open for debate. End of discussion. Unless you've tried it, (I have, you haven't at this point unless you're another journalist that was at the event) then it's best to say nothing before you make yourself look like a fool.
The challenges for G-Sync have to do with adoption by monitor makers, NOT to do with whether it's a GREAT technology that ideally EVERY gamer would have. For me a key factor here is going to be the availability of monitors with G-Sync that don't suck. If you can't buy an IPS panel with G-Sync, you're going to have a hard time selling someone like me who games very little compared to doing real work on his PC on it.
Mantle has the capability to dramatically improve performance in the traditional sense, but doesn't address the same issues that every card has the way the G-Sync does. Mantle's success rides on the implementations we see from devs like DICE with BF4. If it's awesome, then it will drive more developers to embrace it. If it sucks and it turns out to be really hard to work with, it won't.
So here's the summary in my mind. They're both potentially incredible. The only difference is right now we KNOW that G-Sync is incredible, and Mantle has the POTENTIAL to be incredible. We still need more information about BOTH of them before I'd be willing to drop real money on either of them, though.
