KaitouX reacted to Mateyyy in AMD Radeon RX 5300 Officially Announced
Yeah it was such an odd launch, coming in after the 1650 Super and more expensive than it while being better at pretty much nothing.
The 5600XT was an even worse launch but at least they made up for it after the fact.

Hopefully they won't have as many hiccups with RDNA2, though I'm definitely not betting on it.

They probably saw the shitty 1650 and thought "We can beat that, we can increase the price", but then Nvidia came with the 1650 Super and destroyed AMD hopes and dreams with the 5500XT lol.
The 5600XT was really weird, because they compared it with the 1660 Ti even though everyone knew that the 1660 Super was basically the same but much cheaper, the update mess was probably the only way they were able to make it decent without lowering the price closer to 1660 Super levels.

I'm expecting AMD to price RDNA2 at the same price as Ampere ~-5%, really don't expect them to try to move the market much, so I think it might keep happening. 5500XT and 5600XT being priced the same to what AMD considered it's Turing equivalents kinda implies this for me, really shows that the 5700 and 5700XT were only well priced because they had less features.

Who want to bet that the benchmarks shown were using PCIe 4.0 and when you use 3.0 you're going to have a really bad time? The 5500XT 4GB already was bad, this is probably going to be laughable. Unless it costs under $100 it isn't a forgivable issue in my opinion, and it doesn't, otherwise they wouldn't compare it against the 1650.

KaitouX got a reaction from soldier_ph in MSI has registered 29 new Graphics Card Codes with the EEC
Palit also have registered, and it also have the 3060: https://videocardz.com/newz/palit-submits-geforce-rtx-3090-rtx-3080-rtx-3070-and-rtx-3060-to-eec
Interesting that the part of the code that seems to refer to the memory seems to be the same as the 3070 (some of them), and the part that refers to the GPU says "104", maybe we would be looking at the 3060 using the cut-down GA104 with 8GB of VRAM? not a confirmation in any way, but there's a chance, hopefully it's right, because fuck having $300+ 6GB GPUs in 2020 like rumors were implying.
Both 3070 and 3080 have what seems to be memory variants, so that could also be happening, like some rumors have indicated, at least Palit considers that there's a chance.

It would be pretty good if it was right about the memory configuration and the 104 die on the 3060, but it's in no way confirmation, so take it with some salt.

KaitouX got a reaction from Apple50000 in Should I wait to build a pc
AMD and Intel are both going to have another generation on the same board, Intel have been doing 2 generations per chipset for quite some time, it's hard to think they would change now, after that both are probably going to release new boards to support DDR5.
What stability issues? There have been issues with Zen 2 CPUs not being able to reach the advertised clockspeed close to the launch, but that was fixed and there wasn't any common issues regarding stability with Zen 2 as far as I remember. Isolated cases of people having issues happens regardless of the CPU brand.

If you have an IOS device, can you access/sell apps without using the App Store? That's the monopoly, it isn't a monopoly on hardware or OS, it is on software distribution. There's the option of jailbreak, but that's obviously something that would be considered unreasonable for most people, and Apple obviously doesn't support it.

KaitouX got a reaction from BTGbullseye in Rumor: GeForce RTX 3090 Pricing to Arrive Around the $2,000 Mark
If you check topics/news of the Turing launch you will see how many people said there wouldn't be a Titan, and that the 2080Ti was replacing the Titan V or things like that.

And so was the 11GB on the 1080Ti. Also according to a rumor from kopite7kimi the 3080 would have both 10GB and 20GB versions, basically forcing the 3090 to have the same or more.

Few years ago: "2080Ti is the new Titan!" - A lot of people

Now: "3090 is the new Titan!" - A lot of people

On the memory of the supposed 3090: Nvidia basically didn't increase VRAM since Pascal release, I would sure hope that this time around they're going to do it, and that they won't make the GB/$ worse this time around.

KaitouX reacted to HairlessMonkeyBoy in Replaced thermal paste on GPU - now I get random restarts
On a GPU you need to be liberal with the paste, not conservative. It is imperative that the entire surface of the die is covered.

Also ensure that you did not remove or move-out-of-place any of the thermal pads that keep your memory ICs and VRMs cool.

KaitouX got a reaction from BTGbullseye in Would the 3060 really compare to the 2080 ti?
The 970(lower launch price than the 2060) did match the 780Ti, the 1070($30 more than the 2060 at launch) beat the 980 Ti. Using only Turing as comparison point would imply that we never had more than ~15% improvements at the same price. But I don't think it will be faster than the 2080Ti, probably around the 2080 is a more realistic ~35% performance increase over the 2060, the issue is if the price is going to stay the same/drop, or if they are going to increase it again.

KaitouX got a reaction from naturallyaspirated6 in Micron confirms NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090 gets 21Gbps GDDR6X memory
This is probably correct, it wouldn't make much sense for Micron to try to find GPUs with the exact memory configuration when the objective is to give a example on where that memory was/can be used, also because probably there isn't always a GPU that maxes out the possible memory configuration in every way.

KaitouX reacted to porina in Micron confirms NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090 gets 21Gbps GDDR6X memory
I still have a copy of the document locally and had another look. Actually in that column both it lists both Titan RTX and RX5700 XT as 12GB. How can this be?

Thinking more, where it names the product, it says "Application Type (Example)". And for the VRAM it says "Frame Buffer of Typical System". On further thought, maybe they are using the product names as an example of products using that technology, and a typical configuration, but not necessarily the actual configuration. If so, this would explain the apparent error that would otherwise be present, and also brings some life back into the higher VRAM rumours still floating around.

KaitouX got a reaction from BTGbullseye in NVIDIA teases August 31st announcement (likely Ampere)
I hope this time around they don't do something like "Our new GPUs are 40% faster than last generation, but 70% more expensive", I really want a decent GPU for 4K for around 300€, so I hope that the 3060 or whatever it is called will be slightly cheaper than the 2060 at launch, while being at least 30% faster and hopefully not using more than 150W. That shouldn't be impossible as they've done it with the 900 series, but if they repeat the 900 series I hope that they won't repeat the 3,5GB memory in some similar way.

I would just use the G2 until the warranty ends. 750W is more than enough, the G2 is a good PSU and the PSUs you mentioned would be downgrades from it.

Depends on the game, but your average game should be able to reach 60FPS as long you're okay with medium or high settings, maybe with the resolution set to something like 1800p or lower in heavier games. AMD have no DLSS equivalent, the initial DLSS was just worse than a simple upscale with AMD sharpening filter, all you need to do is to create a custom resolution at 1800p or whatever you want(1440P probably doesn't need it) and choose it in the game, the GPU/TV will do the upscale depending on your settings to fit in the screen, if you want to use the sharpening filter, just look for it in the driver settings.
From TPU, games are probably in the highest settings(without Hairworks, RTX and similar):
